Much of the plot springs from the actions of the previous Emperor and his mother. But a secondary driver is how women were treated led to a lot of resentment. Maomao is not the only woman whose actions and feelings propel the plot. Some of it is because the settings so far involve such female-dominated environments.

2025-07-26 00:15:13 +0000 UTCRegarding the confusion about what doctor they are talking about, they are talking about the doctor before Loumen. What they explained so far is that the rumored emperor's first victim was a child -Taihou- that was Shenmei's lady of company. The Taihou got pregnant, but the emperor didn't take responsability, so they blamed the rear palace's doctor of the time; in one of the previous episodes -I don't remember which- they mentioned that doctor and the child born from that were expelled from the palace. It was due to that incident that they decided that the doctors from the rear palace had to be eunuchs too. It was about that time that Loumen finished his training and was appointed as the rear palace's doctor, so they decided to castrate him. Just another anecdote showing how unlucky Loumen is, as the reason he became an eunuch was bad timing.
