You are 100% right. Brasso was already caught, there is reason to suspect that the farmer had turned him in. Great acting by Joplin Sibtain too. With just a look he communicated a lot.

I interpreted the scene of Brasso and the man who supposedly betrayed him as a "I'm caught anyway, so I'm going to make a whole scene in order to at least take the suspicion off of you" kind of act. Just the look they exchange after, with the slight nod he gives Brasso, seemed to indicate that to me, but it's definitely somewhat ambiguous. Thanks for the reaction guys!
