It was said last episode that the Emperor died at an age where it could be considered that he died of natural causes. But that also implies that that he was not that old either. Also, I think Ah-Duo's child and the Empress Dowager had their babies some time apart from each other. Time is a bit tricky in this show: not only are the characters getting older themselves, but I don't think they are being precise about how much time has passed since certain events occurred. At the beginning of the show, Maomao was 17. I think, but I am not positive, that at this point, Jinshi is about 19. The events in the Emperor's bed chamber, I believe was when Lady Anshi conceived the second time. And it was she who said she wished the Emperor would go away every day, but it was reported as heard by her lady-in-waiting. ..... The other thing worth commenting about is, why was the Emperor so afraid of adult women? Did something happen to him? I think you are on the right track by attributing this his mother. But was he trying to hide all this painting from her? Wasn't she the one who facilitated it? And, finally, because it's so awful that I hate to bring this up, however, I don't see anyone else expressing this thought, is, could the Emperor have also been some kind of threat to Jinshi? There are a lot of reasons to look at that possibility.

2025-05-10 19:58:22 +0000 UTCi completely agree that its no where near the same level, but the series makes a huge point about systems of power like this. the idea is that if he WANTED to take it further, he could. it would be his right, even luckily hes a good guy. the same way the emperor is seen as a good guy because he doesnt lay a hand on lishu. but the system that allows for a child bride? still there

2025-05-03 02:52:10 +0000 UTCIf Ah-Duo is Jinshi's mom then the late emperor is his grandfather. Jinshi is also only 19 and Maomao is the first girl he's ever really liked. I wouldn't call him trying to play pranks on Maomao as creepy as the late emperor. He's just kind of a dumb boy who likes a girl and there's no one around to say "hey buddy back off a little bit." INSTEAD everyone is like "buddy hide your girl."
