This is the perfect episode to show that Maomao is unreliable as a narrator. She claims lady Gyokuyou has already had an attempted poisoning one other time but that's not true. She also had a poison needle stuck in her dress when pregnant with Lingli. We know this because her ladies in waiting were talking about it in season 1. Maomao wasn't there though and doesn't know that. So aside from the poisoning that paralyzed the food tester there was another time.
