Omi Jingu is a shrine in Otsu, a city just east of Kyoto, like literally just a few miles away I think. The tournament is held there because the shrine is dedicated to the guy that wrote the 1st poem of the 100 poems used in karuta. Also Dr. Harada is already married, so no romance subplot with the Empress for him (Chihaya is 1st in line for him anyway XD)
