They filmed the desert scenes in Kolmanskop, a ghost town in Namibia, where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. That serum guy was the chickenfucker in ep 2 if you didnt notice. And the Vaults, cars, power armors etc. are powered by fusion power that isnt infinite but very durable. Cold fusion is different thing that brings infinite power.
