Fabricator - Chapter 22

Junichiro closed the portal behind himself as he stepped into his small apartment. He smiled to himself when he saw Asia curiously poking around the place. He kept his apartment pretty clean, which was super easy to do by having the Replicator system break down anything he didn't want, need, or was dirty. Physical possessions didn't mean a whole lot when you could break them down, store their information, and make an infinite number of copies. The only things that really stuck around permanently were his furniture and computer systems, everything else changed as he saw fit.

When Asia finally noticed him, she gave a small start of surprise and blushed heavily. She felt like she'd been caught snooping. Her blush only deepened as Junichiro smiled at her and spoke, “You can look around all you want, Asia. This is your home now for as long as you want it to be.” He gestured to the area around them before he continued, “Give me a moment to set up your room and then I'll teach you have to use the coolest thing I've ever made.”

Asia looked curious but before she could ask anything, he spoke to the air around them, “Computer, I need a free standing door and door frame.”

To Asia's shock, there was a bright light and a moment later there was a door in front of Junichiro. He quickly grabbed it and held it to keep it from falling. He looked around a bit while Asia couldn't hold her curiosity anymore, “What was that? Where did that door come from?”

Junichiro twisted so he could look at Asia while holding the door and deciding where to put it, “That, my dear, was my favorite creation known as a Replicator. Speaking of, Computer, add usage rights for my new roommate Asia here.” With that done, he carried the door to one of the living room walls and set it in place, “The replicator is a magical item I made that can create anything you need or want. That includes food, clothing, and other various items. As long as it's not a living thing, like a puppy or any other animals, it can be created. You now have full access to the replicator.”

Junichiro had to put in restrictions after introducing the system to his fellow peerage members. Kiba had taken it in stride and didn't really seem to care about it much. He only ordered food from it to get a taste for things he couldn't get on a regular basis. Akeno had her access restricted after she ordered up quite a few... props of an adult nature. As little as he cared about her proclivities, he still didn't want her coming over to his place to order whips, chains, and medieval torture devices to add to her collection.

Koneko was actually the first to have her access restricted, at Rias's request. Koneko actually spent twenty four hours straight at his place ordering various foods to eat. Rias got annoyed with Koneko skipping school and her Devil work so asked for the restriction. Rias later regretted giving Junichiro the idea when she was restricted herself. She'd ordered several million yen worth of manga, DVD's, models, props, and various other paraphernalia.

He assumed that Asia would use it as sparingly, if not more so, than Kiba did so he left her with full rights. He'd show her how to use it more after he installed her room. Speaking of, after settling the door frame and door against a wall, he locked it in place and set his hands on it. He faced Asia to address her, “Raynare was right about one thing. The Boosted Gear doesn't do anything like what I did today with the space and portals. That's thanks to my original Sacred Gear, The Workshop. The Workshop allows me to make items, including magical and technological items, of my own design.”

After he finished speaking, his hands glowed and sparked in their usual colors as he worked on turning the simple door into a magical item. He was taking a page out of Harry Potter and making the space behind the door into a magically expanded space to create Asia's room. He pictured a room that matched the construction of the rest of his apartment so it wouldn't seem out of place when stepping inside. Less than a minute later the light show ended and Junichiro opened the door to reveal a large fifteen meter by fifteen meter room. There were even windows on two walls showing images of the world outside the apartment.

Asia looked between him and the magically created room with wide eyes, “That's amazing!”

Junichiro nodded and a few moments later, with another demonstration of using the Replicator, he created a new object. This one was an extension to the replicator system that he installed into Asia's room. Since her room was in another dimension it needed and extension to connect with the main system. After he had it set up he turned to face Asia, “This room is all yours to do whatever you wish with.” He looked from Asia toward the replicator, “Computer, create a comfortable computer chair, desk, and top of the line PC in this room. Connect the PC to the home network and have Janice upload onto it to help Asia out.”

He faced Asia and before she could ask he answered, “Janice is a Virtual Intelligence I made, a super smart computer program. You can ask her for any help you need looking for stuff to fill your room. I want to stress that anything you ask for is created from magic, so there's no need to hold back on anything you want. You wont be robbing other people of stuff or taking from the poor or anything similar, alright?”

Asia smiled and nodded, “Thank you so much for everything.”

Junichiro gestured into her room where a new computer was set up and running, “Get to decorating so you have a bed to sleep in tonight. I'm going to go take a bath and clean off from the day.”

He ignored Asia's blush and made his way to his bedroom. Once he was inside, he closed and locked the door before throwing up a barrier to block sound from escaping. A quick word to the holohome system and his bedroom changed into a massive and luxurious bathroom with one section cordoned off to protect his computer system from the water. With everything ready and secure, he collapsed to the tiled floor and began to hyperventilate. His whole body shook while he tried to get his breathing under control as images of what he'd done to Raynare flooded his mind over and over again. His stomach roiled and he scrambled over to the toilet to dry heave into the bowl.

Logically, he knew that killing Raynare was the right thing to do. She was an evil unrepentant murderer who would have continued to kill people if he'd let her go. Emotionally, she was only the second being he'd ever killed and the first one had been a complete accident. This was cold, calculated, premeditated murder. He'd been raised in both lives to view murder as wrong, as something that should never be done. This was just the first true murder he'd committed and his conscious was rebelling against him and flooding him with guilt. It it hadn't been for his use of the Psionic gem to control his emotions, he probably wouldn't have been able to kill her at all.

Asia watched Junichiro leave her alone in her new room with a bright and happy smile. She'd never been happier. With him gone, she turned to face the computer and spoke in a soft voice, “Um, Janice?”

“How can I help you Ms. Argento?”

Asia jumped a little at the feminine voice issuing from the new computer but quickly recovered, “Uh, Mr. Junichiro said you could help me with my room?”

“Of course. If I might suggest, I believe we should get you a bed first.”

After the computer finished speaking pictures of various beds began to appear on the screen. Asia moved closer and started to look intently at the images. She'd only slept in the utilitarian beds the Church had provided her all of her life so seeing just how many possible variations there were was mind blowing to her. She almost felt overwhelmed to have so much choice in her life all of a sudden.

Asia quickly picked pieces of furniture she felt comfortable with. It took only a short while for her to outfit her room in a simple and modest way. Junichiro might have given her free reign to do whatever she wished, but she'd spent all of her life with simplicity. Her bed was a plain wooden framed twin, a small side table next to it holding a shaded lamp. On a wall to the side of the bed was a wooden wardrobe to act as her closet. Lastly, she placed a simple wooden table and chairs a few feet from the base of her bed to have somewhere to sit. The chairs weren't even cushioned since it wasn't something she would think about.

Asia had a content, not quite happy, smile as she worked to unload her suitcase into her new wardrobe. She didn't have much in the way of personal possessions so it only took a few minutes to finish. Once she finished, she moved to her bed and knelt to offer her prayers. If Junichiro had been within range to hear her muttering he'd have ended up with the mother of all headaches.

Junichiro did his best to try and enjoy a relaxing bath in scalding hot water. Ever since he'd turned part of himself into a dragon, his heat tolerance had been stepped up a notch. He was by no means fireproof or anything, but he was comfortable in near boiling hot water. A combination of the near boiling water along with some light meditation to absorb some pure life energy, helped calm him down from his near panic attack.

He definitely did not enjoy killing, but he knew it was a necessity to clean out the truly evil beings that plagued the world. Raynare was just the first and would lead the many that were soon to follow. Once he was perfectly calm and resolved, he spoke aloud, “Janice, what's the location of Freed Selzen?”

“Freed Selzen is currently searching for a 'tainted' target within the city.”

“Kalawarna and Mittelt?”

“Both are located within the church.”

Junichiro sighed and tried to maintain his calm and reminded himself that what he was about to do was a necessity. He slowly inhaled, held his breath for a moment, and then exhaled before issuing his next order, “Begin Whitewash Protocol.”

“Confirm Whitewash Protocol.”

“Confirmed. Execute.”

Mittelt, a petite fallen angel with long blonde hair done up in twin tails and wearing a gothic lolita outfit, paced back and forth in front of her companion, Kalawarna. She stomped her small foot and looked up at the much taller and far more buxom blue haired fallen, “Raynare is late.”

Kalawarna, tall and busty wearing a maroon colored outfit that could only be described as 'business slutty,' looked down at Mittelt and sighed, “You know how she gets. I'm sure she'd just torturing some poor little boy she found while looking for that nun of hers.”

Kalawarna made to say more but was interrupted as an excommunicated priest burst into the room she was sharing with the two other female fallen after the surprise death of Dohnaseek. Before she could scold the priest, he spoke in a loud and rather scared sounding voice, “Mistresses! Something is happening outside! The whole church is surrounded by an opaque white wall and ceiling. We can't see through it and it resists any damage when we tried to break out.”

The two fallen rushed past the priest and made their way outside to see for themselves. It was just was the priest had described. The entire church was surrounded in an opaque wall. Getting closer they could feel the magic within it and knew instantly that it was a barrier of some kind. They glanced at each other before both summoning spears of light to attack the barrier. Neither of their attacks so much as scratched the magical construct that had them trapped.

Kalawarna looked down at Mittelt, despite appearances Mittelt was actually the older of the two fallen, “Have you ever seen anything like this before Mittelt? I know I haven't.”

Mittelt shook her head and opened her mouth to reply with some speculation, but before the words could even form properly blinding white light filled the cube they were trapped within. Everyone within the cube felt a moment of excruciating pain before they were wiped from existence.

Junichiro calmly watched as the Whitewash Protocol was activated. It was something he'd made specifically for this situation. It wasn't necessarily something he could use on a whim. It took a little setup before hand to surround an area with the eight pieces necessary to form the cube. Then some more time for it to charge up. He refused to put a mana generator inside of it, he was beginning to worry that he might be a bit too carefree with those things. Instead it charged from ambient mana in the air.

He also needed a fair idea of the power of his opponents to make the devices strong enough to not only contain them but to take them out instantly. Once set and once all the necessary power had been gathered, the device deployed. Stage one was the containment field, a powerful barrier that sealed off the area and prevented anyone from leaving. Stage two was a massive release of energy within the barrier that would destroy everything within it. Nothing would be left but ashes and dust, provided the devices had gathered enough power.

When the barrier fell it revealed a completely clear area. There was nothing left but a cube shaped earthen hole a couple of dozen feet deep where the church had once stood. Even the very ground, and the basement beneath the church, had been destroyed. Junichiro took several deep breaths to keep the bile that was rising up his throat down. More deaths on his hands. Though, the distance and disconnect of observing it through a screen helped him not feel quite as guilty as he would have by doing it in person.

He stared at the scene of absolute destruction for a moment longer, letting it be burned into his memory, before he addressed Janice once more, “Begin Cleanup Protocol.”

“Confirmed.”

As he continued to watch, a dozen drones equipped with simplified replicators went to work. In minutes the decrepit church was back where it had been just a few moments before. More accurately, an exact replica of the church had been recreated where the previous one had stood. He'd made scans of it beforehand and was using those scans and the drones to replicate it and remove all evidence of anything having happened there.

With the evidence of his actions completely cleaned up, Junichiro dismissed the screen and closed his eyes to meditate once more. He might have some feelings of disassociation from the acts he'd just committed but that didn't give him complete immunity from the feelings his actions had generated. More meditation in the scalding hot water of his massive bathtub seemed in order.

You'll see in the next chapter. I hate giving away spoilers.

Please tell me the MC won't let Freed escape? Practically every FF does that because they can't think of a way to replace him later in the story.
