Hey you!
I hope you're doing well.
Today I wanted to talk a bit more about one of the habits that changed my life for the better. Journaling quickly became a part of my daily routine and I wouldn't trade it for anything. This simple addition to my routine is like a free and easy shot of self care.
Journaling reconnects me with myself, one line at a time. It is a warm reminder that I am the best friend I could ask for and offers me a safe space and time to focus on what really matters.
It improved not only my relationship with myself, but also with others. I don't need them to process things anymore, I got myself. So it releases pressure on us and leave more room for genuine connexion.
Plus, it gives more control over what I want to work on in therapy, since I clearly do some deep inner work daily already. My therapist actually seems weirded out by my self awareness and I wouldn't lie if I said I wasn't proud of it!
And because I am a bit Too Much, I went BIG on the Journaling game.
I have a whole box of different journals under my bed that I love to sneak into before bed. And today, I'm here to share them all with you. Of course I won't share what I write in it, since it's my little secret, but I'll tell you everything you need to know to improve the way you approach yourself through this tool
Daily Journaling
This Journal is the one I fill up every night religiously. To make the process easier, I already wrote days of prompts, so once the night comes, I only have to fill the blanks and focus on what really matters.
prompts:
" How did I love myself today ? "
I love to take time to think about all the things I did for myself during the day. It also brings awareness on this aspect of your relationship with yourself in the future the more you do it.
" What was the most memorable moment of the day ? "
This prompt highlights what actually matters to you and helps you take time to rethink about your day with a positive and gentle point of view.
" What am I grateful for ? "
Gratefulness is key. It's not always easy, depending on the day. But it feels good to put things back in their context.
" Who made me feel good today ? "
I love this one. It brings more awareness on the connexions we have with people. I write everybody I can in there. The mailman who brings me my packages, my neighbor I talked with for a minute, the people who send me kind messages, my friends, everybody. Sometimes even the people who made a movie I liked during the day!
" What act of kindness did I do today ? "
Giving back to the world is important for me, so I like to add this into the things I think about daily.
" What was my biggest quality today ? "
It's hard to know ourselves when we're not used to think about it. This prompt breaks the self hate circle most of us can fall into and brings gentle self awareness.
" What could have made my day better ? "
This one is also here to look into what kind of improvement our days need. For example I often write "less screens" and think about it when I pick up my phone randomly during the day, which helps me to put it down sooner.
" What was the progress of the day ? "
Everyday holds a progress. There is no little progress. It is important to pat yourself in the back for what you've done well. You deserve it :)
" What am I looking forward to ? "
Brings excitement for the upcoming events. Doesn't have to be something crazy. It can just be your morning coffee, saying hi to someone or listening to music.
" If I could make one wish, what would it be ? "
I like to go wild on this one. No limits. If a genie appeared and offered you one wish, what would it be. It allows you to dream big and see what you'd do if you weren't scared.
" All the cool things I did today"
I tend to think that I never do enough things, which isn't true or nice. So on the left page of my daily journaling, I started to write all the things that I did and it made me realize that days are LONG and filled up!
Manifestation/Attraction
This cute journal helps visualizing what I actually want and makes me more aware of the opportunities that go this way. Write in present time, like if it was your daily journal from the future, and feel the emotions that you'd feel if you were living these things. It feels good , doesn't it? :)
Random Journaling
When I feel like I need to write about something specific or not that doesn't fit in the other notebooks.
Letters
For when I feel the need to closure something with someone but I know that talking to them directly wouldn't be a positive thing in my life or in theirs at the moment. I try to always write these letters with kindness, love and compassion for the other person. It's important for me to include their perspective in what I write in this notebook. It helps me calm down my heart and look at the situation with peace.
Secret Good Deeds
I love to do stuff to make people feel better, but I don't always like to brag about it. So I decided to write some of them down in a special notebook that's only for me :)
What did it teach me?
The most effective way for me to move on after a negative experience is to understand what I learned from it. Sometimes the lesson is obvious, and sometimes I need to write it down :)
All the questions I should ask myself/others more
I love questions. They have the magical power to grow universes and light up the darkest places in our minds. They are so important.
I'm actually working on a cool project around them that will hopefully come to life one day. :)
Photo Projects
I've got this notebook for a while and I've been religiously writing down my creative photo ideas for a couple years in it. Once the project is done, I get back to it and add 'What I've learned' during this project and 'What I could have done better'.
It's funny because there was projects I completely forgot about that randomly happened to be done after some clients' requests.
Negative Thoughts
As someone obsessive, I often have thoughts that refuse to leave my head unless I express them. For these, I don't need help or support and I don't want them to take space in my social interactions. So I just write them down for as long as I need and once it's done and I'm relieved, I throw away the pages and move on.
All the things I want/deserve/need to hear
I used to be frustrated by my friends and partners because they wouldn't say exactly what I needed to hear. Until I realized that I didn't need them to tell me these things because I could just do it myself. People aren't in my head, they have no clue what I need and that's completely okay. So I write down the good and the hard that I need to hear to keep going.
Videos
Just a notebook to write down my video ideas
Gratitude Journal
Where I sometimes write the things I am grateful for
Business
Where I write down some of my business related informations and ideas.
The nice things people told me
I love having a notebook where I write down the things people told me. It is so overwhelming to go back to it, but also to take time to write by hand every word said.
Crazy Notebook
A notebook that I often take with me when I watch movies, listen to stuff, and when I'm not sober. I note all the creative or weird ideas that cross my mind, without even thinking about it. Then, the next morning, I get back to it and filter what I can actually take out of it. Many of my favorite projects started that way :)
I hope this SUPER LONG post gave you the urge to start/keep journaling as well :)
Do you have specific notebooks? What are your favorite prompts?
Have a great day,
Talk to you soon,
Flavie.
