10+ ComfyUI Settings You’ll Wish You Changed Sooner

ComfyUI isn’t comfy until you change these. Let’s max out your setup and make ComfyUI way better to use.

1. ⚙️ Lock the Right Seed

We’ll be using the search bar in the settings menu (bottom left) a lot.

Search: "widget control mode" → Switch to Before
By default, the KSampler’s current seed is the one used on the next generation, not the one used last.
Changing this lets you lock in the seed that generated the image you just made (changing from increment or randomize to fixed), so you can experiment with prompts, settings, LoRAs, etc. without losing that exact output.

2. 🎨 Slick Dark Theme

Default ComfyUI looks like wet concrete.
Go to Settings → Appearance → Color Palettes. I personally use Github. Now ComfyUI looks like slick black marble.

3. 🧩 Perfect Node Alignment

Search: "snap to grid" → Turn it on.
Keep "snap to grid size" at 10 (or tweak to taste).
Default ComfyUI lets you place nodes anywhere, even if they’re one pixel off. This makes workflows way cleaner.

The top 3 are what I considered most essential so I gave them to free users too. But if you're a power user, you're here to fully max out those settings. Below are exclusives just for you. 🫡👇

4. 🧠 Catch Prompt Typos

Search: "spell" → Turn on Textarea widget spellcheck

Typos = broken tags.
Models have a better time generating what you want when the word is spelled correctly. 😅

5. 🚫 Unplug Without Popups

Search: "action" →

• Set the Shift one to Search Box

• Set the No Modifier one to None

Now you can unplug freely without triggering a popup.
Need to plug into something? Just hold Shift when letting go of a noodle.

6. 📦 Shrink Nodes by Default

Search: "shrink" → Enable Always shrink new nodes

No more manually shrinking the same nodes every time you add them.
You can just expand any node when needed.

7. 💾 Auto Save Workflows

Set to save every 30 seconds for example (or every second if you want ComfyUI spamming Ctrl + S like a mad man).

I leave this off personally. I like manual saves to avoid overwriting finished workflows. But I’ve cursed ComfyUI many times for having to redo work.
So I figured some of you may want it.

8. 🔁 Readable Wire Arrows

Search: "midpoint" → Change Link midpoint markers to Arrows
Makes wires a bit more readable.
Adds a little clarity when workflows are spaghetti messes.

9. 🚫 Declutter UI Badges

Search: "badge" → Turn the top three toggles to None

I almost never need badges, and it helps declutter the interface.
If I want them, I can turn them back on temporarily.

10. 🔍 Bigger Prompt Font

Search: "font" → Adjust to your liking

The default size has always seemed small to me.

11. 🔕 Hide FPS Overlay

Search: "fps" → Turn it off.
The bottom-left FPS counter isn't necessary.

12. 🧰 Enable RGThree Fast Toggles

If using RGThree nodes:
Go to the rgthree section on the left panel in the settings then rgthree-comfy settings and turn on:

• Show fast toggles in group headers

• Uncheck Mute

• Set “When to show them” → Always

Now you get bypass/queue buttons on the top right of each group.
The queue is super useful when multiple groups are open but you only want one to run.
The very bottom setting is tempting but it wasn't helpful. Don't change anything else here.

🧱 Final Notes:

This post came from a personal vault. A list I’ve been building for months while working inside ComfyUI almost every day. When I finally stepped back, I had over 50 ComfyUI tips. These are just the ones in the "settings" section. Arguably the most useful.

Next I might do hotkeys/shortcuts. Either way, I'm just getting started. 🫡
