Ch.24 I Was Bullied So Hard I Was Isekai'ed Into A World of Sword And Magic And Emerged As The Lightning Samurai God To Hatefuck My Former Bully Until She Got Heart Eyes

— Eris Boreas Greyrat —

“Here are your plates.” The clerk said as he handed both Law and Eris two silver plates or cards. Eris beamed as she read over the information on it. It had her name, sex, race, age, and the name of their team! “Welcome to the Adventurer’s Guild.”

This was the day Eris had been dreaming of all her life and now it was finally here! She was officially an adventurer!

“Thank you.” Law bowed slightly and Eris copied him. Her parents had told her in the past to never bow to those beneath her but this guild clerk had done something she had dreamed about for years. He had earned this.

“You both are quite welcome.” The man smiled before gesturing to a large wooden board that was the size of a wall in the room they had slept in the previous night.. “That is the job request board, there you may find jobs organized at each rank. When you have found something suitable, remove the paper and bring it over to any available clerks so they can legitimize the request. Any questions?”

Eris was about to shake her head and go look for a quest as soon as possible, but Law spoke before she could.

“Actually I have a few.”

“Ask away.” The guild clerk offered kindly and Law gave the man a thankful smile.

“Can we take high ranking jobs now?”

“Unfortunately you cannot. All guilds only allow a team to take a job one rank below their ranks, at their rank, or one rank higher.” The clerk explained and his words made Eris pout. She already knew that working their way up would take time but it seemed partially like a waste of time.

She and Law were already stronger than most people, so why should they have to go through the slow process of ranking up? That being said she wouldn’t complain too much, even ranking up would be fun because she’d get to live the life of a hardworking adventurer like Ghislaine!

“Okay, and what are the requirements for ranking up?”

“A fantastic question Lord Law Greyrat.” The man smiled.

“Law is fine, I’m no lord.” Law waved and the man nodded.

“At the moment the both of you are F-Rank adventurers. To become an E-Rank adventurer you must either complete ten F-Rank jobs or complete five consecutive E-rank jobs.”

“So we can’t do three E-Ranks then switch to an F-Rank?” Law hummed out his question.

“Unfortunately not, rules are rules.” The man offered an apologetic smile and Law nodded understandingly.

“That’s alright.” Law shrugged and waved him off. “We weren’t going to take any F-Rank jobs anyway. Can you tell us the requirements for each rank?”

“Of course.” The clerk nodded. “To reach D-Rank you can either clear fifty F-Rank jobs, twenty five E-Rank jobs, or ten consecutive D-Rank jobs. For C-Rank you must clear one hundred E-Rank jobs, forty D-Rank jobs, or ten consecutive C-rank jobs… do you need a piece of paper?” The man asked as he noticed how much the information was getting to both Eris and Law.

“Please.” Law chuckled nervously and the man momentarily walked away before returning with a blank paper and a quill. He waited patiently as Law wrote down everything he said. Law didn’t remember everything so the clerk had to remind him about a few of the requirements but eventually Law got all the information down. “Alright, and for B-Rank?”

“One hundred D-Rank jobs, fifty C-Rank jobs, or twenty consecutive B-Rank jobs. The jump is rather large when it comes to A-Rank. Three hundred C-Rank jobs, one hundred B-Rank jobs, or twenty A-Rank jobs… and finally for S-Rank, one hundred A-Rank jobs or twenty S-Rank jobs.”

Law finished writing down the information and he gave the man a wide, thankful smile.

“You’re a huge help, thank you. We’re going to pick out a job right now if that’s alright.”

“Then I wish you the best. It’s my job to aid all adventurers in any way I can. The guild looks forward to your rise, Greyrats of Roa.” The man bowed his head a bit.

Law grinned before he turned around and gestured Eris to follow him. The girl practically bursted with joy as they went over to the large board. Eris skipped over and marveled at the large selection of jobs.

“We’re taking an E-Rank right?!” Eris asked loudly. She figured Law already had the same idea in mind, rising in the ranks as soon as possible was the best thing they could do.

“Yeah, let me see.” Law looked at the E-Rank jobs while Eris found herself hopping over to the higher ranked jobs. She marveled at some of them. The A-Rank and S-Rank jobs mostly involved going into the mountains and taking down dragons which greatly interested Eris. She didn’t know if she was strong enough to take any of them down, but she would love to go on an adventure and see!

“I got one, Eris.” Law waved a paper at Eris, snapping her out of her reading. Eris grinned and followed Law back to the desk where he handed the clerk a paper.

“Back already?” The clerk asked.

“Yeah, I found something easy enough.” Law shrugged.

“You have chosen something that you can do rather quickly, as I expected.” The man read through the paper and smiled slightly.

“I want to get as many of these things done as I can in a day, some of these jobs just take up most of the day and we can’t have that.” Law explained.

“Well it was an excellent choice. Gathering herbs for medicinal purposes is financially beneficial and can be done timely as well.”

Law nodded as the clerk walked away into the back room of the guild. He returned a couple minutes later with nothing but a small paper and a smile on his face.

“The job has been legitimized and you two may begin your job. This is a list of the herbs you must gather with their descriptions.” The clerk handed the list to Law who took it and briefly looked at it.

“Thank you…” Law trailed off and waited for the clerk to give his name. The man widened his eyes before letting out a chuckle and rubbing the back of his head.

“My name is Henry, I look forward to working with you both.” The man bowed his head and Law did the same while Eris watched. She had already bowed once, that was the best he was going to get from her!

“Likewise.” Law waved and turned away. Eris followed after her bodyguard… teammate as he made his way out of the guild and down the dirt road.

“It’s time for our first job!” Eris smiled and placed a hand on the hilt of the stone sword Law made her. It was sheathed in a hardened dirt sheath, it wasn’t perfect but it was her first sword and she appreciated it. She’d use it to cut down any bad guys or monsters they came across.

“Down girl.” Law looked at her from the corners of his eyes and gave her a sly grin. “We won’t be killing anyone or anything today… hopefully.”

“Why do you hope for that?” Eris frowned. “Killing is the fun part is it not?”

“Killing things… maybe. People? No.” Law said thoughtfully as they walked toward the outskirts of the village and made their way into the bordering plains.

Upon reaching the plains they continued walking until they came across a few trees. In the distance they could see the makings of a sizable forest. Law stopped and pointed ahead.

“This should be the place… according to this note at least.” Law crinkled the note in his hands as he reread the writing on it. “Yup, this is right. Let’s keep going.”

Eris just nodded along. She never expected to be the navigator when it came to doing job requests and all those troublesome things that come with being an adventurer. What she wished to do was the fun parts of the job! Like killing powerful monsters and becoming S-Rank!

They walked toward the few trees that were around and Law stopped at each one and looked around their bases.

“Not this one.” He shook his head as he moved along to another, then another, before they finally came across what he was looking for.

“I think this is it.” Law grinned as he bent over and pulled the yellow, almost orange flower from the ground. He held it up to her face so that she could see it clearly and as she inspected it, she had to admit the flower was beautiful. “This is what you’ll be looking for, they grow along the bases of trees.”

Eris blinked before a smile tugged on her lips. She could do that easily! Although… Law said that she’d be looking for the flowers, did he have something else in mind for himself?

“What will you be doing?” She questioned with a tilt of her head as curiosity got the better of her.

“There are a bunch of medicinal flowers and herbs on this list.” Law informed her as he waved the paper. “Which means we have a lot to gather, I’m not going to waste any time messing around so divide and conquer is our best bet.”

“Then why can’t I have more than one flower to pick?” Eris puffed her cheeks and she narrowed her eyes at the blonde boy.

“Because apparently we need fifteen of those. By the time you’ve gathered fifteen I should pretty much have everything else.” Law shrugged like there was nothing wrong with what he was saying. To Eris however this whole thing was wrong! They were a team, they were supposed to share an equal amount of work!

“Give me half.” Eris demanded with stern red eyes that made Law pause.

“Eris… don’t be difficult.” Law facepalmed and Eris felt anger swell in her body.

“Difficult?” Her voice came out harsh and Law caught onto it. His eyes widened and he held his hands up as he attempted to reword his previous request but his attempt was made short when Eris threw her fist at him. Law caught the fist with no real effort as Eris glared daggers at him. They stared each other down for a few seconds before Law eventually let out a sigh and let go of her fist.

“Fine, you can have half.” Law frowned before running away in a burst of speed that would put any Saint Level swordsman to shame. There was a silence for a moment before Law returned with a purple flower.

“Six of these. That’s twenty one flowers total for you and twenty eight for me, is that more fair?” Law asked and Eris thought it over before nodding. It wasn’t perfect but she wouldn’t keep wasting time by complaining. “Good, remember, this yellow flower-” Law held up the yellow flower in his left hand. “And this purple flower.”

“I get it, I am not a baby!” Eris crossed her arms under her bust and turned her head away. Law stood there for a second before nodding to himself and giving her the two flowers. Once his hands were free he held them toward the earth and Eris watched as Law made a basket from the dirt.

“Then I’ll see you when I’m done.” Law waved briefly before moving away again at speeds she couldn’t track.

As Eris was left in the silence of the field the dark corners of her mind began to whisper to her. She knew Law was a genius swordsman, she’d have to be blind, deaf, and stupid to not know that much. But even knowing Law’s rank did not perfectly capture just how much ahead he is. Everytime he moved seriously it was like watching something that simply couldn’t be understood by those weaker than him. She knew she stood no chance against Law in a fight, and she had come to the surprising realization that it was only a matter of time before Law surpassed even the likes of Ghislaine. A feat Eris had not believed to be possible… her mind just could not wrap around that power.

Eris looked down at the flowers in her hands and clenched them tightly. Her eyes fell down to another basket made of dirt on the ground and her eyes twitched. She hadn’t noticed Law had made one for her.

Eris dropped the two flowers into the bucket and slapped her face, as she did her eyes grew more focused and determined and she quickly picked it up and ran to the nearest tree. She may not be as strong as Law but that was okay… However, staying at the same level and not improving was not okay. How could she look her parents and Ghislaine in their faces if she didn’t improve?

Eris grit her teeth as she pulled a yellow flower from the earth and ran to another tree. She would not fall too far behind, and she would keep pushing herself as hard as she could until the day she died! Only then could she ever look in the faces of the people she cared about and wear her pride.

— Law Greyrat —

I looked down at my basket and felt my lips tug. The first job was basically finished, or at least my part was. Finding the herbs and flowers I had assigned myself was just as easy as I thought it would be. Being able to move so fast with increased perception made grabbing everything I needed in a timely manner a cake walk. The longest part about my search is honestly my peaceful walk back over to Eris.

The few trees that are around form a beautiful vibe with the grass and flowers around. I had never really been one for sights and views in my past life, but that’s mainly because I never had the opportunity to view such things. This world is exceptionally stunning and sometimes I feel like I get so lost in my training that I forget to take some time to appreciate this world and its beauty.

I pushed aside any negative thoughts that came to my mind as I made my way back to Eris. Right now it was just me and the world… and I think I may not be deserving of it, but it was my reality and I planned on making the best of it.

I appreciated the trees' shade from the sun high above the earth. The sun wasn’t unbearably hot or anything but it was bright and a bit of darkness ain’t never hurt nobody. As I continued my walk I ended up spotting Eris as she ran from tree to tree. Instead of going over to her and telling her I finished, I watched her as she continued to pick purple flowers. The purple ones were less obvious in their growing patterns as compared to the yellow flowers so I wasn’t too surprised to see that she was having a bit of trouble finding all of the ones she needed.

Around five minutes after I started watching Eris I watched as she put a purple flower into her basket and held it up high.

“I did it!” She shouted loud enough for anyone or anything on this side of the village to hear her.

I shook my head with a small smile as I walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She looked back with a bright grin on her face and I nodded approvingly.

“Our first job is out of the way.” I patted her shoulder a couple of times and looked into her basket to count her flowers. Once I ensured she had the right amount of each flower I stepped past and waved her along. “Let’s head back.”

“Mmm!” Eris held her head high as she followed me back toward the village. As we walked Eris rambled about her dreams of the future, saying that this was just the beginning of our soon to be legendary adventuring team. I just chuckled along and went with everything she was saying, after all she wasn’t even wrong.

If my parents adventuring team could reach S-Rank then our team was already on good grounds to get there as well. Right now we have an Advanced North God swordswoman and a Sword King, which already puts us pretty high up in terms of skill… the only thing we’re missing now are the numbers to support us.

I could probably pass as a great frontline fighter but I don’t think the tank role is for me, and I don’t intend to rely much on my magic. Eris confirming her identity to this whole guild has kind of put us in everyone’s view and they all see me as a Sword King… that being said I don’t want them to know much more beyond that.

Technically I’m also a King Level Water Mage and I want to keep that to myself just in case I need to pull some of those tricks from up my sleeve. Wordless magic alone would be a pretty damn surprising thing to face all of a sudden, so on the off chance that any kidnappers become wise enough to challenge a Sword King, I’ll fuck them up with magic if they force me to pull it out.

I really hope there’s no one like that around here though. I doubt anyone around these parts could force me to fight even somewhat seriously, but then again this village is known for having dragon extermination job requests… so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are at least a few Saint Level Swordsmen and Mages in these parts. Still not enough to push me but if they ganged up on me… that’s another story entirely.

As we entered the village with the intention of heading to the guild and collecting our reward, I noticed that more eyes were on us than I wanted. News of a new Sword King joining the Adventurers Guild was destined to fly around, but what I did not expect was for the news to go around so quickly. We had barely even been gone for an hour…

My eyes narrowed as I looked into an alleyway and stared at a man who was watching us with a dark cloak. If that wasn’t shady, I don’t know what would be.

As much as all these eyes on us bother me, I doubt anyone would make a move on Eris or I, at least not anytime soon. That being said I’d be an idiot to think that no one would be willing to try and get the biggest payday of their lives by kidnapping Eris so I’m not going to take any chances. I’ll ensure that Eris is always within my sight and that wherever we are is either secure or I’m high on my guard.

“Law, are you listening to me?!” Eris shouted at me which snapped me out of my precautionary thoughts.

“Hm?” I tilted my head. My answer didn’t please her judging by the harsh narrowing of her eyes and her gritted teeth.

“Oh look, the guild!” I pointed ahead and smiled briefly as she looked away. Crisis averted!

We made our way inside with the two baskets of the requested items we had to gather and brought them over to the clerk desk. Henry, the clerk that had been helping us earlier was nowhere to be seen, instead it was the first girl that had given us our applications when we walked in an hour ago.

“Oh, Lady Eris, Lord Law, is there something I can help you both with?!” She asked with wide eyes and a loud voice as sweat dripped down her brow. I rolled my eyes at her shift in attitude. I hated ass kissers.

“We have finished our first job.” Eris held her head up high as she placed her basket on the clerk desk.

“Oh how impressive of you two. As expected of nobles.” The clerk forced a smile as she pulled the basket a bit closer and gestured to me for mine. I handed it to her easily and she bowed for a moment. “Please excuse me while I find the original legitimization of your completed job request.”

“Take all the time you need, we’re gonna pick out another job in the meantime though.” I shrugged.

“Very good Lord Law.” The woman lowered her head again before she hurriedly walked away with the two baskets.

“We are going on another quest now?” Eris tilted her head but I could see her excitement dancing in those sharp red eyes.

“No reason to wait, we want to rank up as fast as possible, don’t we?”

“Of course!” Eris crossed her arms under her bust as she looked at the job request board. “We should take one with some action!”

“Most E-Rank jobs don’t have action unfortunately.” I frowned. Ranking up would be so much easier if there were jobs like that. The only ones I saw were bodyguard jobs for taverns but those took basically all day. I couldn’t wait for when we rose to around D or C rank because then we’d just have to go around and kill a couple weak monsters. We could honestly rank up in a few days at that point.

“Then can I choose the next one?” Eris pouted that we couldn’t take violent jobs but by the tone of her voice she would probably cheer up if I gave her liberty over the next job. I hesitated for a moment because Eris wasn’t exactly known for making good decisions that would benefit us in the long run but ultimately I relented. She wanted to rank up fast like me, besides if I didn’t like the job I’d just say no and make her choose another. “Great, this is going to be so fun just watch!”

I watched Eris as she ran over to the board and began to look up and down in search of a job that would please her. My lips tugged at the sight of her. She was so… full of energy. It was hard to explain but the time I spent with her made me feel at ease. Between her brash nature and her horrible attitude was a caring and excited girl who was finally living her dream. Watching her almost made me forget our situation and a part of me wondered if she even remembered.

For all we knew… everyone could be dead. It was a gruesome thought and also the worst case scenario… but it was a potential scenario nonetheless. Yet Eris was still running around so full of energy.

My resolve sharpened as I looked at the girl’s back. If being a great adventurer was her dream, I’d make it a reality, not just for the sake of those we want to see again, but for her. And when the day comes for us to finally set out and find our families again, I’ll do my best to ensure her happiness. I couldn’t control everything, I’m not that powerful and I will never be… but this one thing, Eris’ happiness… I’d do my best.

Author’s Note: That pretty much does it for the initial teleportation. The next chapter will take place after a timeskip. Not sure how long I’ll make it though.

Comments

Feels like the requirements for progressing in Ranks is overly harsh. Especially for a kingdom like Asura that has the least amount of monsters. Progression would be nearly impossible.

Dunno, Law is like 10 tho.
