Let There Be Light! Ch.14

— Azazel —

She opened a portal to the human world and stepped out disappointedly. In the entirety of her existence, never had she been so upset.

She wanted Gabriel. Yet God still believed that pushing Gabriel into their…arrangement was wrong.

They had gotten into an argument. By argument, she got upset, and God calmly listened and answered her with his thoughts.

He said that of all his angels, Gabriel was perhaps the purest. Even with the free will they all shared, she passively chose to feel no traces of any sin. As such, God wanted to preserve Gabriel from such sin for as long as possible, and if he could…forever. Azazel didn’t understand! She and Remiel functioned just fine, lusting after God! Not all sin was terrible; otherwise, they would have long since fallen for their actions with their father.

God didn’t understand!

She was right, and she knew it.

So here she was, walking around the Earth, trying to blow off some steam. She wasn’t mad at God; she loved him more than anything.

Even her lust for Gabriel was nothing regarding her love for him.

No, she just needed some time to calm down. She was nearly a millennia old, and here she was, acting like a child whose parents didn’t give them what they wanted.

Well…that’s actually exactly what happened.

She shook her head. Now was not the time to catch up on why she came here! It was time to relax and realize that sometimes she couldn’t have everything she wanted.

So, with a disappointed heart, she continued to walk the plains of Earth, watching as the various wildlife fed upon its grass, swung through the trees, or even flew in the sky. Earth tended to clear her mind and warm her heart whenever she came here.

Heaven was incredibly beautiful, and Earth was crude yet uniquely beautiful. It had its own charm, and she’s sure her Father thought the same way when he created it.

Azazel went through the beautiful forest, taking in all the wildlife. She hadn’t learned the creatures' names, but the more time she spent down here, the more she wished to.

God did a good job of creating everything, and Adam’s done an excellent job of holding dominion over them.

A frown crossed her lips as she thought of Adam and, more specifically, the humans.

Adam was dead, as was Eve, and now humanity was without its most outstanding leader. And without the order that Adam brought to Earth, and with the devils worming their way around, the humans are getting worse and worse.

They’re embracing sin more and more.

If the humans continued on their path, they would end up no better than Helel-

They would be no better than Lucifer’s abominations and would directly oppose God and his will.

And as one of God’s proud angels, she could not let that happen.

“Hmmm hmmm hmm hmm.”

Azazel paused, her eyes locking on the form of a human woman for a moment before she threw herself behind a tree.

She hadn’t been paying attention at all. Lost in her thoughts, she had stumbled upon a human.

The angels were forbidden from mingling with the humans. God wanted humans to turn to him through faith and belief in him instead of worshipping him just because they could see him.

And because of that, angels had to stay out of sight.

Azazel peeked around the corner as the woman continued to hum. Her voice was soft and almost entrancing. It actually reminded her a great deal of Gabriel’s sweet voice when she would hum.

Azazel shook her head. No. No one could come close to her sister’s nigh-perfect existence.

As Azazel analyzed the girl, she had to admit that she was pretty beautiful.

She was attractive, not near the level of the angels and nowhere near Gabriel. But she held her beauty in a way Azazel had never seen before.

Humans truly were magnificent creatures.

Azazel was tempted to speak with her. She had heard wondrous things about the growth of Humanity from Adam and Eve and was curious to see it in real-time. She wanted to learn how they go about their lives and what happens in their heads.

What type of needless thought arises in their minds to make them consciously turn away from God?

That was one thought that almost all Angels thought when Humans came to mind.

She wanted to learn the answer to that question-

No, she wanted to learn the answer to all her questions.

Azazel watched as the girl picked various plants, a calm, soothing hum escaping her lips that disrupted the Angel’s train of thought.

She should go, now.

So she did. She took a step, ready to leave the forest-

*Crunch*

Azazel froze for a moment, looking below to see the snapped twig under her crystal white boots.

Dear God!

“Hello? Is anyone there?”

Azazel was still hidden behind the tree, but the girl approached her cautiously.

She should step back up to Heaven and act like she was never here. That would be the smart thing to do!

So why? Why couldn’t she move her body?

Azazel closed her light blue eyes as the human woman turned the corner and spotted her.

“Lord Almighty!” The woman shouted, falling on her butt and pointing at the Angel in front of her. Azazel’s twelve white wings were curled around her body, so it was clear as day what she was.

The girl was stunned or scared; honestly, Azazel couldn’t tell which one it was, but she hoped it was the former.

“A-Almighty Angel, I-It’s an h-honor to be in y-your presence!” The woman attempted to regain her bearings, shifting from her butt to her knees and bowing. She continued to stumble on her words for a while before pausing, fear striking in her features.

What had scared her?

“P-Please, d-don’t take h-him!” The woman bowed deeper. “You’re- h-here for my son, a-aren’t you?! Please- h-he’s all I have!”

A son? Take him?

Azazel had no such plans made for any human, much less this human woman in front of her.

“...Be not afraid.” Azazel crouched to the human woman’s level. Azazel didn’t know if she should touch this woman, but when Azazel saw how upset she was, she knew she had to.

The thought of how God would soothe her when she was upset, and he wanted to get his thoughts across to her flowed in her mind.

Azazel grabbed the woman’s chin and raised it so their eyes met.

“Calm yourself, child. I come not for your son.” Azazel’s voice was soft, and slowly, she could see the wonder and relief in the woman’s eyes.

The blonde woman wiped the tears from her blue eyes until all the tears were gone. Azazel watched on quietly as the woman raised her head and looked upon Azazel’s angelic form.

“Y-You’re not here for my son?” The woman asked.

“I am not.” Azazel nodded, stroking a hand through the woman’s hair soothingly.

“I-I see.” The woman relaxed, taking a relieving breath. “Thank God.”

“Indeed.” Azazel smiled. God’s grace was truly wondrous! Had God not soothed her time and time again, she would not have known how to soothe this woman now!

God was the ultimate teacher!

“Are you…truly an Angel?” The woman asked, fluttering her eyelashes and focusing intently on Azazel’s features. It was like she was drinking in the experience, one large gulp at a time.

It sent some pride through Azazel’s heart, which she quickly shook her head to clear.

Pride was a sin, one of the worst.

“I am,” Azazel answered simply, giving the woman a warm smile, which she couldn’t help but blush at. “I am Azazel, one of the Twelve Seraphim. May I have your name, descendant of man?”

“I am Penelope, daughter of Kotas, wife of Enoch.” She answered quickly, stating the names of all the important men in her life. “...Mother of Methuselah.”

Azazel blinked at that. Admittedly, she didn’t often watch Adam’s main line of descendants, but she knew who most of them were mostly because they tended to be the most loyal humans to God.

“...Enoch, I know him. Son of Jared and Great-Grandson many times over of Adam.”

“Yes, Lady Azazel, that’s my husband!” Penelope beamed, looking incredibly happy that an Angel would know her husband.

“Your son is the continuation of Adam and Eve’s main line.” Azazel hummed more to herself.

Azazel’s words seemed to downcast Penelope. She suddenly looked very upset.

“Is something wrong, Penelope?”

“...My son…he’s dying!”

— Chapter End —

Author’s Note: Shorter chapter than usual, but this chapter had been kicking my ass for as long as I’ve been writing it. Did a lot of research, moved some things in the bible around, and ultimately got this. I’m happy with how it turned out and what it will lead to.

Comments

Whelp, certainly looks like Azazel is on her way to falling, just not there quite yet. Interesting to see how, after breaking God’s rule and interacting with a human, she’s looking to further meddle with them. Glad to see this is back though, keep up the good work dude!
