afaik it's not actually a real spoiler, I haven't read much of the novels though so I could be wrong Subaru doesn't ever try to use it that way, so it's never confirmed that it only goes after Emilia. He never tries to use it like that, simply because of the possibility of it going after Emilia or anyone else he cares about instead of just whoever is listening to him. He knows that it can, so it's not worth the risk to try.
