Purgatory is where Meliodas' emotions got sealed and Ban went to save him, its where Hawk is from and where Hawk was headed to now. Meliodas and Elizabeth were headed to the Demon Realm where Meliodas was born and grew up. I don't know the exact difference between the two but it isn't the same place so Hawk basically wanted to solo it from here on out.
