Will is definitely not my favorite character, but he also seems to be the damsel in distress but because hes a kid (for most of this series) I have a soft spot for wanting him to be protected. And it would be a brutal twist of events if he was doomed from the moment he was taken to the upside down and that's how it ends.

He's barely in the first season so when he's rescued at the end it felt super underwhelming because you're invested in all the other characters who you've been on a journey with throughout, and I don't think his character ever recovered from that. We have to be told to care about Will whereas we genuinely care about other characters. (Steve+Dustin for life!)

2025-11-02 09:53:37 +0000 UTCIt's also worth noting that in the D&D lore that the name "Vecna" comes from, Vecna has a lieutenant named Kas. If the Duffer brothers are doing any mirroring of the Vecna story in Stranger Things beyond just borrowing that name, then it seems clear that the character in the role of "Kas" would be Will. But importantly... KAS BETRAYS VECNA! So I could very easily imagine it happening that maybe Vecna has pulled Will into assisting him whether Will wants to or not, probably by overpowering his will to resist, or by threating his loved ones, etc., but then at some crucial moment when all seems lost, Will betrays him. Perhaps Will gives himself up to make it possible for the others to defeat Vecna at the end...
