Since you're releasing The Faculty today, I thought I'd share its connection to Planet Terror. Robert Rodriguez began developing the idea for Planet Terror—originally titled Project Terror—while filming The Faculty back in 1998. He managed to write the first 30 pages of the screenplay during that time and even told actors Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett that zombie movies were due for a major comeback. (he sure got that right)👍
He wanted to be ahead of the curve in the horror genre’s resurgence, but he hit a creative wall at the 30-page mark, so he shelved the project for nearly a decade. It wasn’t until 2006–07 that he revived the idea and gave us Planet Terror.🧟♀️

Loved it :)
Yeah. Rodriguez is so awesome. He's got an ability to make movies with relatively small budgets look much bigger, and is extremely insightful when it comes to the entire process of film making.
You definitely need to check out Rodriguez' "Desperado" (1995) with Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi and also Danny Trejo (from the "Machete" fake trailer you watched here, and the "Machete" movie of course). It's got the same sort of humor mixed with the occasional more serious tone as "Planet Terror", and plenty of bombastic set pieces.

💡🤯🤣I just realized something I can't believe it took me so long.😂 You know the guy on Twin Peaks that was holding Audrey for ransom? He's the same actor that played the dad of the lady doctor (with the 3 special needles). His character is named Earl McGraw, which he played in multiple movies. He played that role in Kill Bill, From Dusk till Dawn and in Death Proof too. He also played a really crazy role in the horror movie Tusk with Justin Long.

PS, Yes Machete is the movie where he uses a guys intestines. It was a fake trailer in Grindhouse, but the fan reaction was so positive he decided to turn it into a real movie.

Alex darlin'😂 The cop with the finger bit off was horror special effects makeup legend Tom Savini. You'll see him pop up in roles and cameo appearances as you see more horror movies. Planet Terror pays homage to exploitation and B-movies of the 1970s. The movie deliberately embraces the over-the-top, absurd, and gory aspects of these genres, making it both a satire and parody. I saw it in the theater twice and everyone was laughing so hard. You have to see Peter Jackson's Dead Alive if you want more chaos like this.👌And don't forget to watch Death Proof at some point, it's the one the ladies actually seem to prefer from the Grindhouse double feature.
