Tomorrow's bonus episode - The Fly (1986)
Added 2025-09-16 08:49:33 +0000 UTCHello all - this is a heads up that tomorrow's bonus episode will be focused on David Cronenberg's '80s body horror, The Fly.
Why? WELL - it was Dave's idea, and it's one he might have had simply because last week's episode of Alien: Earth was also called 'The Fly'.
But it turned out to be an inspired thought. Cronenberg's film is an excellent fit with our journey on the pod so far. It was released in the same year as Aliens, and by the same studio. The Fly's marketing clearly borrowed from Ridley Scott's first film (check out the poster above). The Fly featured music from Lord Of The Rings' Howard Shore, starred Jeff Goldblum as a charismatic scientist several years before Jurassic Park, and the film's plot centres on one of RSCC's enduring talking points: a teleportation device.
The Fly is available on Disney+ (who, somehow, still don't sponsor this podcast), and the episode will be available tomorrow.

The Fly 2 is not so bad, Eric Stoltz and the effects are pretty good, better then most sequels and worth a watch I’d say

2025-09-18 11:30:17 +0000 UTCAlong with all the Lynch films, this is another one I’ve never seen - very much enjoying being encouraged to watch along with “friends” 🥰 Plus if there’s anything as grossly upsetting as the fly attack in Alien Earth then I imagine I’m in for a ride!
