2025-10-27 21:57:42 +0000 UTCTo me when people say "bad animation" for OPM that is just a generic placeholder for something they don't know how to describe is missing. For me, season 2 and so far with season 3, the issues can be laid in the lap of the director. For an anime that isn't supposed take itself too seriously, the tone and dialog are too serious. Then even when there were jokes, the jokes fell flat. For instance in this episode, there was a joke about Sitama going out to punch Garuo and pick up cabbage. When they did the punch line of "i'm also going to pick up cabbage" all they did was pause the music for the line delivery. In my opinion, a more comedic delivery would be for Sitama to have been drawn in his epic form with some sort of metal guitar strumming before transitioning to the next scene. This would be emphasizing that picking up cabbage is a more serious matter than punching the hero hunter that is wrecking havoc. In OPM season 1 there were various "serious" moments, but those "serious" moments were always used to setup the joke. In this episode, it was just serious scene with information dump, then it just moved on.

2025-10-13 23:45:19 +0000 UTCPersonally, I think there were a few janky moments in the animation in this episode (mostly involving Atomic Samurai), but I'm not upset about it yet. Especially since we haven't seen it in a high action moment, its hard to say if those odd moments were just stylistic changes or something more. The overall quality of the art is still great. I *can* see why people are concerned (not a great sign if the first ep of a season has polish issues, since its the one they presumably had the least time crunch to finish), but at the same time, people criticized the Season 2 animation and I thought that was absolutely great. Happy to give them the benefit of the doubt unless something really egregious happens.
