But it was very silly & campy. I loved it. Also...why is Jiwoong so good at flirting?
It was so fun to see Gyuvin be shy/quiet/awkward because he is always so loud and goofy.

I've watched a fair bit of Jewel Box and thought about it .. I've also seen that past guests have talked about how they were treated on set and it's what you'd hope - they know in advance what's coming, it's all quite professional. And as a fabulous gay man myself, the whole thing reads to me as delightfully self-referential camp. It's silly enough to not be too threatening in a cultural sense while still being unapologetic. Like the US in the 90s / 2000s - the original Queer Eye did some of that. Birdcage, To Wong Fu, But I'm a Cheerleader... The (straight) audience was invited to laugh at us because we were also laughing at ourselves. It was an important step toward public acceptance, I think. I've seen some young US queers say they hate that the show perpetuates stereotypes, which is a fair reaction but really doesn't get at why an out gay Korean entertainer might choose to play this heightened version of himself. I wish I could talk with him about his choices, but since I can't, I tend to land on assuming he knows what he's doing.

Roommates of Poongduck is much better IMO but probably it's exactly what you don't like. Do yourself a favor though - watch the behind the scenes of the final kissing scene. It's easy to find and makes it quite clear the actors aren't unhappy about their job 😁 I just laughed out loud when you said at the outset that you wanted to see someone come on and flirt outrageously with the hosts 😁
