The other kids flee for the door as lunchtime hits true, emptying the once nosy room in a heartbeat. Kai normally hates lunchtime, but as he looks up from his desk, he sees Lila and Zoe waving at him from the front of the classroom.
They’ve waited for him. Like they have done every day since the sleepover.
“Kay,” Lila waves him over. “Kay, get over here right now!”
Looking around the classroom, Kai is relieved that no one else is around to have heard what he’s just been called. It’s the name he’s chosen for his fem side, that only Zoe and Lila know.
“Lila,” he scurried over with a pout. “You just called me Kay out loud.
“So?”
Zoe unceremoniously bonks her on the head. “He’s not out to anyone else but us, Doofus.”
“Ow,” Lila moans, but then sulks. “Sorry, Kai. I forget.”
“It’s okay,” Kai smiles wide, then his cheeks turn pink. “Hey, look. Check it out!”
Turning around like he’s presenting himself for inspection, he peels back the top of his pants with one finger and reveals the soft satin panties underneath.
“Niiice,” Zoe chuckles. “I even like the color.”
“Wow, Kai,” Lila gasps. “Who do they belong to?”
Allowing his waistband to snap back into place, Kai turns back around, sporting a sheepish look on his face.
“They’re mine,” he answers softly with a hint of embarrassment creeping in.
“Awesome!” Lila gives him a solid thumbs up before tilting her head to the side in curiosity. “How do they feel?”
“Erm…,” Kai looks down at himself and fidgets. “I like how soft they are, but I’m not going to lie, they are a touch uncomfortable.”
“All crushed up?” Zoe remarks with a dopey expression
“N-no…,” Kai looks around at his backside and then leans in to whisper. “They keep riding up my ass. I feel like my bum crack is trying to eat them. Is that normal?”
“Just wait until you try wearing thongs!” Zoe teases and then raises her hand for a high five.
She’s left hanging.
“Who’s being obvious now…?” Lila forcibly lowers her arm before looking at Kai with an exasperated expression. “Kai, what size did you buy?”
“I don’t know…” he shrugs. “I just brought the first ones I liked.”
“Oh my,” Lila says, covering her mouth to stifle a giggle. “They’re probably way too small for you, Kai. That’s why they’re riding up your bum. With your bits up front, there’s just not enough fabric left to cover that big ol’ backside of yours!”
“Ah. Makes sense. But I don’t have a big—”
At that moment, the classroom door slides open. Kyle steps in, notices the three of them, and quickly looks away. He scurries to the back of the room, heads to his desk, and starts searching the floor like he’s lost something.
“Guys, shhhh…” Zoe waves her hands to get their attention, then points to the back of the classroom, whispering, “Look—it’s Kyle.”
Lila lets out a quiet squeak and flails in panic, her face flushing as she scrambles to hide behind Zoe.
“Oh my god,” she whispers, ducking behind Zoe’s shoulder. “S-Should I go talk to him?”
“Err…” Zoe shifts, trying to step out of Lila’s grasp, but Lila clings on, determined to stay hidden.
“Lila,” she mutters in a hushed voice, half exasperated. “Neither Kai nor I can do this for you. Stop being such a baby!”
Peeking over Zoe’s shoulder, Lila locks eyes with Kai, desperation written all over her face. “Yes,” she says with a grin, sneaking a glance at Kyle before fixing her gaze back on Kai. “Please, go find out what he likes so I can pretend we have something in common!”
Kai’s jaw drops. “W-What?” he mouths, eyes darting between them. He quickly shakes his head.
Lila scowls, points subtly at Kyle, then ducks back behind Zoe.
“No, I can’t,” Kai whispers, shifting anxiously from foot to foot. “Kyle doesn’t want to talk to me.”
Silence for a moment as Kai’s words carry in the silent room.
“Erm…” Kyle stands up slowly, confusion etched across his face. “D-Did you guys just say my name?”
Zoe and Kai freeze like startled deer, eyes wide. Lila stays hidden behind Zoe, barely able to breathe.
“E-Erm…” Kai takes a hesitant step forward, glancing over his shoulder for backup. Zoe just covers her mouth, stifling a gasp.
“Y-Yeah…” Kai continues, voice shaky. “We were just wonder—”
Before he can finish, Kyle flushes a deep red and lets out a nervous laugh. “W-Wondering what I’ve lost!” he blurts, panicking as he abruptly drops to his knees by his desk. “Y-Yeah… I-I lost my pen! T-That’s why I’m here. No other reason!”
“Oh,” Kai says, his nerves easing. He glances at Zoe and Lila, who’s peeking over Zoe’s shoulder and smiles.
“Want some help?” he offers, hurrying over and dropping to his knees beside Kyle.
As Kai leans forward, the waistband of his panties peeks out, and Zoe instantly starts giggling behind her hand.
Kyle doesn’t notice. Instead, he glances over his shoulder at Zoe, catching her laughter. “I didn’t know you were friends with those two,” he says, crawling along the floor beside Kai as they search for the missing pen.
“Oh,” Kyle swipes his fringe away from his face. “It’s a recent thing. They are very kind.”
“Oh, cool,” Kyle says, pausing his search. “You’re usually sitting here alone, waiting for lunch to end. I was surprised you weren’t by yourself today.”
Kai doesn’t respond. He just keeps scanning the floor, his confidence in finding the pen quickly fading.
“I like what you’ve done with your hair.”
Kai freezes, then slowly turns toward Kyle. “W-What?”
“Yeah,” Kyle says, reaching over to gently touch the fringe falling over Kai’s eyes. “You’re growing it out, right? I like it.”
Kai’s face drops, and then flushes red, blushing like a ripe strawberry.
“I-I…I am…” Kai looks away and then bites down hard on his bottom lip.
“I was going to ask if you want to join me for lunch, Kai,” Kyle continues, resting his hand on Kai’s shoulder. “I assumed you were here alone, so I was coming here to ask you.”
Kyle looks over at Zoe and Lila, who are staring intently.
“But looks like you’ve already got company,” Kyle says with a small smile as he stands. He straightens, glancing down at Kai, still kneeling at his feet. “Guess my pen’s lost.” He shrugs. “No big deal.”
He glances toward the girls. Lila swoons dramatically as Kyle gives them a wave. At the same time, Zoe groans and tugs at her side in exaggerated frustration.
“Well…” Kyle lowers a hand to help Kai up. “Maybe another time for that lunch, huh?”
“Y-Yeah…” Kai mumbles, taking his hand and standing up.
“Oh, and…” Kyle leans in a little, locking eyes with Kai. “I like that you’ve started wearing makeup.” Kyle brushes his cheek with a single finger. “It’s cu—”
He then bursts into a nervous laugh, hand flicking away just as quick as his nervous gaze.
“Call me weird or whatever,” he chuckles, scratching the back of his head. “B-but it kinda suits you.”
Then, before anyone can say anything, Kyle spins around and rushes toward the door, so quickly he nearly walks into it. He pauses, flustered, then pulls it open.
“Haha…” He glances back at the others, eyes lingering on Kai for a beat, and offers a warm, bashful smile. “I’ll see you guys later!”
“B-Bye…” Kai waves as he leaves the room.
As soon as the door clicks shut, Lila gasps and drops to her knees. “He’s so darn cute!” she whines, fanning her face dramatically.
Kai just stares at the door, lost in thought.
“Y-Yeah…” he murmurs, reaching up to touch his cheek. “I-I… I get why you like him. He’s really… charming.”
Zoe rolls her eyes and huffs loudly, stamping her foot in pure frustration at her friends.
“OMG, you two,” she sighs deeply, before perching herself on a desk and folding her arms. “You two are ridiculous. He’s not even that cute!”
Neither Lila nor Kai says anything. They are just staring into space with love-struck looks on their faces.
“You’re both not listening! Great!” Zoe throws her arms up into the air. “And not you, too, Kai?” she moans. “I get enough of the Kyle fan club from Lila. You can’t join as well!”
“I’m not—” Kai tries to deflect that he is still thinking about what Kyle just said.
“Yeah, you keep telling yourself that,” Zoe says, cutting him off with a sharp look.
Zoe then swiftly grabs Lila’s hand and drags her to her feet. With a little protest, Zoe drags her towards Kai, where she grabs his hand also.
“Right,” she says, like the leader of a couple of lost sheep. “Good thing your cult leader is here! There’s a solid wall just up from the classroom that I’ve spied for potential, and you two losers need to cool off!”
“No, we don't,” both Kai and Lila groan.
“Too late,” Zoe snaps in reply, pulling them both towards the classroom door. “A wall hugging session is just what you two idiots need.” Zoe let’s out a long breath. “No way am I letting both of you fall for the same boy.”
She tugs them hard, her face set in a determined look. “The cult won’t be the same without you two hugging the darn thing with me! So, let’s go sort this out!”
“Okay, okay! I’m coming,” Lila breaks free of Zoe’s grip. “No need to break my hand!”
“Wait, wait,” Kai breaks free also and reaches behind himself. “Let me sort out my massive wedgy first!”
Kai picks at his backside as his two best friends watch with a giggle.
“It’s really up there, guys! Please don’t laugh at me!”
Zoe tilts her head. “Why do I feel like the three of us have been friends for years?”
“Sorted,” Kai says in triumph.
“Better?” Lila giggles behind one hand.
“Much.” Kai then smiles wider than he’s ever smiled before. “I wish we’d had that sleepover sooner. Then we really would have been friends for years.”
“Shoulda, woulda, coulda, Kid,” Zoe smirks, pointing over her shoulder with her thumb. “Now, we’ve got a wall to hug, guys. Let’s save the soppy talk until our next sleepover!”
