Hi Bisscute 😀 From San Antonio Texas USA 😀 Wonderful reaction and analysis and commentary 😀👍 All of those events that you saw at the beginning of the movie in the 1970s slowly eroded the American self esteem culminating with the taking of the American hostages in Iran in November in 1979. I was working that day and I remember being in the same mindset of those players all day long getting ready for the game. The game came on live in Lake Placid New York 4:00 p.m. our time in Houston Texas. The game was taped delayed on the broadcast so that it could be shown in the evening and what they did in the local newscast is they showed the final score but if you didn't want to know then close eyes and they would let you know to open them again. We sat in front of our TV sets and watched the game so I can relate to your emotions as you watch this movie. I'm so glad they used in this movie The original broadcast of Al Michaels and Ken Dryden so you could feel the atmosphere (they did a great job of simulating the crowd that day... especially after the go ahead goal making the score 4 to 3... the noise level in that hockey arena was deafening) and their emotions as the game came down to the final seconds. This was a iconic night...one that everybody who was alive at that time remembers and I'm so glad you've been able to experience it in this movie. This indeed was the shot in the arm that the country needed at the time whether it be politics or as Al Michael said just a hockey game. Thank you for all your hard work and I appreciate you so much. Have a great day and God bless you with much love and prayers for strength and good health bye bye 😀👍💪❤️✔️

I recall, in the HBO Sports documentary, they showed Eruzione’s goal and the happiness of the team. Mark Johnson recalled being overjoyed, then saying “…..and then I looked at the clock….. 10:00 minutes…..” he shook his head and smiled, “10 minutes is a LONG time against these guys….. they could score more goals in 10 minutes than most teams could score in a whole game!”

Standard playoff and championship games consist of 3 periods of 20 minutes each. If the score is tied at the end of 3, the game shifts to sudden-death overtime, whereby they play additional 20-minute period(s), and whichever team scores the next goal wins the game. In the NHL, the record for the most playoff overtime periods is 6, which has occurred twice, with the longest lasting 116 minutes and 30 seconds. (The game started at 8:30 pm and ended at 2:25 am the next day, spanning 6 hours of real time and intermissions; roughly 2 extra full games back to back in one evening.)

Biss - you might like a video by The Fat Electrician on the "Broad Street Bullies" for your BissQT reaction channel, because the assertion that there was no team that beat the Soviets until the Lake Placid Olympics isn't actually true.

At the end you said, “If it had gone the other way, the Russians would have been happy.” So, there’s an HBO Sports Documentary on this event and the actual players, former Soviets and Americans shared their recollections on the game. Eruzione noted that, “They NEVER smiled….. whether they won or scored a goal…. They were like robots. I never saw one of them smile.” A Russian player said, “We won so often and so decidedly that the games weren’t enjoyable.” I was 10 and I’d never seen a hockey game before but watched the whole tournament. I’m from Austin, Texas and in 1980 there was, essentially, no hockey played in Texas. A neighborhood was built shortly after this and all the streets in the subdivision are named for the players. There’s a Morrow, O’Callahan, Schneider, Eruzione, they ALL have a street in Austin named for them.
