the union soldier who covered up the baby, before Padma shot him, was played by Cillian Murphy, from Peaky Blinders...and the Albino that killed Inman , that actor also starred as a Biker in Sons of Anarchy..Charlie Hunnam

Hi Bisscute 😊 from San Antonio Texas USA 😊 Wonderful reaction and analysis and commentary πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ This movie depicted the era very well. A hog, and you saw them take it away, is a very large pig. The little girl you spoke about on your outro is the product of Inman and Ada... Grace Inman. Absolutely correct on the trick to introduce an orphaned animal to another mother for survival. In closing the movie did capture all of the elements of the war and the brutalness of it and what it takes to survive. I agree with your rating of four stars and that this had the elements of The Shakespearean tragedy. Thank you for all your hard work and I appreciate you so very much. Have

Yes that's Natalie Portman. Fun fact: While NP played Padme, Kiera Knightley played her decoy, and apparently when they were in full make up their mothers who were on set couldn't tell them apart. So, don't sweat mixing those two up, but you did get it right!

Yes, Cold Mountain could certainly be characterized as a tragedy. I think what throws people is that they initially think it's Inman's story. But really it's more Ada's. The book is wonderful; Charles Frazier writes extremely evocative prose. Fun fact, Georgia is played by Jack White of The White Stripes.

Her dad the preacher is played by Donald Sutherland you might remember him a much younger version as Oddball in Kelly's Heroes!! The guy with the 3 Sherman tanks.

In regards to the battle of the crater The Confederates quickly recovered, and launched several counterattacks led by Brigadier General William Mahone. The breach was sealed off, and the Union forces were repulsed with severe casualties, while Brigadier General Edward Ferrero's division of black soldiers was badly mauled. It may have been Grant's best chance to end the siege of Petersburg; instead, the soldiers settled in for another eight months of trench warfare. Burnside was relieved of command for his role in the fiasco, and he was never returned to command. Ferrero and General James H. Ledlie were observed behind the lines in a bunker, drinking liquor throughout the battle. Ledlie was criticized by a court of inquiry into his conduct that September, and in December he was effectively dismissed from the Army by Meade on orders from Grant, formally resigning his commission on January 23, 1865.

Not a clue what this is, so this should be fun.

Biss.. Thanks again for pulling us into these films and allowing us to watch along with you. I always learn something new, and your enthusiasm for these films and the characters within them is always compelling. As for the film.. It's ok.. I really enjoyed (Ruby) RenΓ©e's character... The relationship between her and (Ada) Nicole was thoroughly entertaining, but the romance between Ada and (Inman) Jude was unconvincing, built solely on fleeting flashbacks and brief encounters. The reality is, he wouldn't have survived that neck wound, especially falling between the lines, and surely she would have married to secure herself, even a man like (Teague) Ray, as despicable as he was, if it meant security and survival. But I know it was written for the ladies, so I have to give it some liberties. :) Honestly, I think Ruby's perseverance and strength really stole the show here, and the romance story took a back seat. There were glimpses of the Romanian mountains, but I was disappointed that they did not take more advantage of the landscape to capture the journey home visually. There were also so many talented actors in this film (6 Academy Award recipients among them) that it should have been better... BTW... RenΓ©e Zellweger won a Best Supporting Actress award for her portrayal of Ruby in this film. - Well Deserved Yes, that was Natalie Portman/PadmΓ© (Sara) Plight = means a difficult or lowly condition.
