2025-09-29 05:28:55 +0000 UTCI actually enjoyed this picture in terms of the story, adventure, and the relationships between the characters. The practical effects were all fine, and some of the CGI army fighting sequences were straight out of The Lord of the Rings, which came out the same year. However, the VFX team apparently faced numerous constraints, including the absence of facial or body scans of "The Rock" or even any voice work, so everything was created from whatever they could find. Secondly, they claim that an overreliance on digital effects that pushed beyond the original film, as well as an overambitious use of limited CGI capabilities at the time, really contributed to the poor quality. Sadly, this was produced by Industrial Light and Magic, which is highly regarded and, some might say, remains the standard for CGI today. If you squint your eyes during the Scorpin King instances, you can hardly notice how bad it was. :)
