Training Day, Glory

Jason

I’m not sure if anyone told you, Biss, but the song playing over the loudspeakers at the end is ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ by Gladys Knight and the Pips. You should do it for your channel. He chose that song because he’d told the crew that his ‘former job was a Pip.’ The two guys looked him up. He played that song to let his people know he was there in a way the Russians wouldn’t know he was communicating. On your comment during the fight, “Don’t rush! Don’t rush, plenty of time!” It reminded me of a saying the Navy SEALs have, “Don’t run to your death.” The Special Forces, training McCall must have had, are not these wild-eyed, screaming into battle bare-chested, pulling grenade pins with his teeth. They’re incredibly professional, engaging in missions behind enemy lines or in a hostile city. The idea of not running to your death means, “Take your time, go carefully, work the drills we do in practice time and time again. Be methodical. Don’t miss something that’ll kill you because you were going to fast.” I read an account of a college ROTC program, that’s where you go to college for four years, you keep your hair short, you wear uniforms to class some days, then you get to be an officer when you graduate. So, 250 college kids wanting to go into the military ‘battled’ 8 SEALs. The college kids had to guard a flag somewhere on campus, their campus. Where they go to class every day. Could probably go around blindfolded and be fine. SEALs had never been to campus and didn’t know where the flag was. All the college kids had to do was spot one of the SEALs to win the whole game. When the sun rose the flag was on the ROTC commander’s desk, inside his locked office. The only evidence of the SEALs presence was the flag. Special Forces missions are often absolutely silent with no direct action attributable to them.

The premise of this film was taken from the 1985 TV series of the same name. I think you would enjoy Kick-Ass. Chloe Grace Moretz plays a ruthless vigilante named Hit-Girl. She was 13 when she made this film and plays an 11 year old assassin trained by Nicolas Cage. It’s a humorous high action movie. 😄

A doctor used honey on me when I had an injury that gave me blood poisoning. It worked. Several treatments btw

Every time I see Chloe Grace Moretz (Alina), I cannot help but think of her as hitgirl in Kick Ass (2010). But cannot recall if Biss has seen that, I would recommend if not.

Progress not perfection...3 words to live by.

Here’s a question: When Robert shows up to Slavi’s office and one of his boys offers to kick him out immediately, would Robert have immediately attacked? I’ll say ‘no,’ to attack into a room you know nothing about is suicidal. The task is to get into the room peacefully and begin gathering intelligence.

Hey, Biss, did you have any male mentors/counselors/advisers growing up?

He heats the honey to sterilize it and turn the honey more pourable. If the temperature is high enough it might have antibacterial properties when it hits the wounld and have a cauterizing effect. It’s a coagulant and, when it cools, its protective like a scab

It certainly is the sort of skill anyone working in intelligence or counter-intelligence had better get good at or become another gold star on the walls of Langley. Have I seen that car before? Is my contact acting squirrelly? Am I being tailed? It’s never perfect but it is a human skill that can be developed.

I’m not commenting on the likelihood of this scenario. It’s just the process the movie makers were trying to portray. Denzel’s character gets three slow passes through the room plus the time he’s at Slavi’s desk. He’s gathering every piece of information he can. He’s noticing weapons, obviously, but handedness, build, are they standing or sitting, how quickly can each enter the fight? That process of taking in data and ranking threats in order and dealing with them sequentially and with economy of force and in the most efficient manner isn’t at all superhuman or impossible. I don’t think anyone could do all of this without a drop of blood on him. One way of training your brain to be this kind of hyper-aware behavior to the best level you can, start practicing becoming aware of as many things as you can. It works best if you do things like adding time components to everything and comparing them day by day. First become as aware as you can of time. Try it for a week.

I knew you would like this one.. instant justice, sometimes brutal but clever and resourceful, redeeming the lost and suffering no pity for those who sought none.
