So, Day 1 of shooting was the scene in the Fire Swamp where Buttercup’s dress caught fire. Well, that ACTUALLY happened. If you watch close to that scene you’ll see Cary Elwes yank his hand back but keep working to extinguish it. So, Day 1, Scene 1 and they set the lead actress on fire to the point she had to get medical attention. Not exactly the smooth start the Director and Producer were looking for, no?

2024-03-07 21:10:19 +0000 UTCI saw a 20 year reunion of the cast. Unfortunately Andre the Giant had passed but the cast was unanimous in their praise for him. Robin Wright told a story of a particularly cold English morning of filming and her very thin dress. Between takes, Andre would rest his enormous hand on top of her head to keep her warm. Apparently his hand was so large that his fingers went almost all the way down her head. Andre was a true gentle soul. He owned a farm in Belgium and it was his refuge. He was quoted as saying, “The animals don’t know I’m very large. To them, I’m just regular sized and this is the only place on the planet I can feel like that.”

This is such a beloved movie of my generation. Andre the Giant is a legend. He once drank 16 bottles of wine in 4 hours! Beat that Biss! Once during his dinner he drank 116 bottles of beer. At 7 feet 4 inches (226cm) and 520 pounds (236kg) he was truly a gentle giant! Definitely a 5 out of 5.
