I like OPLA, but let me tell you, outside of Nami at the end of this episode, I thought they butchered this episode! Watching Bellemere in this episode is like watching paper trying to act. Too matter-of-fact, too deadpan, too emotionless. I cry every time I see Nami's flashback in the anime. The two times I watched it for OPLA (including this time), bone dry. Then, they make a change that absolutely pissed me off, which is Nojiko and the entire village not knowing about Nami's plan to buy back Cocoyashi Village! The fact that they always stood by her in secret, is part of what makes the Arlong Park Arc so good in the anime. They take that away here and it just feels hollow. Now, the live action absolutely chose the right Nami, and, while I do believe Nami's Japanese VA in the anime did a better job, Emily got as close as you can get to that level. I will say this about the live action, whoever the casting director is, they need a raise lol

I think i saw somewhere that both Emily and Inaki wanted to ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE that scene was true to the manga/anime, they wanted to make sure they got it to perfection, and they definitely did.

i don't know if more times spent on scene, means more budget needed. almost $18 million per episode spent is crazy.

I liked Bellemere in the anime way better, I feel like in the live action she wasn't "bratty" enough, like she was much more composed and "motherly" which isn't her character at all, she's supposed to be inexperienced and still figuring things out. Also wish they had the moment where she comes through the doorway and knocks Arlong on his ass with that rifle in his mouth, what a bad bitch.
Edit: Also, I agree that it felt shorter in the live action, but it was definitely more barbaric in the anime, because first they break her arm and Arlong is like stomping on it while the girls are watching from the bushes, and also you have Genzo there who's trying to lie to Arlong and say that there's nobody else who lives there, and Bellemere makes the choice to bring up she has a family and that she can't ignore it. Way more emotional in the anime.
