If Baby! Is a Bon Iver rip its better at conveying emotion to me than any of the experimental bon iver stuff. Even if he's a better lyricist I dont he's as successful at pulling this amount of genre influence into something cohesive and listenable.

2025-11-10 20:57:48 +0000 UTChaha, kind of chuckled at the “similar artists” discussion because for better and for worse this project is heavily influenced by Bon Iver. Prince, Stevie Wonder, Babyface, etc. there too but as inflections. I have lots of thoughts on dijon but suffice it to say he’s better when it moves away from the Bon Iver influence (not because they are bad, but Dijon isn’t a good enough songwriter and vocally as well he’s too good for it lol). There’s real admiration there but it’s too affected. The two best songs imo automatic and kindalove have a real vision although not fully there. I think he will though. But then I said the same thing about the marvelous ambient r&b of Blonde and loom at Ocean today. Or don’t cause he isn’t to be found lol.
