Dad Reacts to twenty one pilots - Trench

Comments

Bleh. I’m not a fan of Fantano. I feel like he’s constantly over critical just for the sake of being critical. I feel like he never likes anything. Unless it’s To Pimp a Butterfly.

Ethan Hines

Wish I could have seen them. I live in Ohio and for some reason they’re only doing one show in Cincinnati. Even though they normally stop in Cleveland and Columbus. By the time I checked their website, the Cincinnati show was sold out. And I can’t travel to another state because of work. So I fear it’ll be a long time before I see them again :(

Ethan Hines

their next tour will be their last one for a while, and they said themselves “for the first time in their career they don’t know when they will be back”. You guys should definitely go see them live while you still can!

goopb b

thank u for doing this album; it’s one of my favorites from them. any chance you can see them live- take it. i haven’t missed a show since i saw my first one back in 2014 and they keep topping themselves 🥹🥹 they’re some special boys ✨🎶

Alex Hoppe

Please do Scaled and Icy

Braydon Cheek

Kevin’s singing and guitar performance was my favorite part of this video 😁

Sion Onalundula

i will defend scaled and icy with my life. Peak summer album from ToP

wekraftyy

coming back to say that i fully understand most people feeling neutral towards 'pet cheetah' compared to the rest of the tracks on trench. but, i do know that there is an entire force of people out there like me who would go down with that song. it's one that may not catch you the first or second time, but after living with it for a while, it's one that you won't forget. for me i have a lot of personal situations and memories attached to that song, but also as someone who has grown up an intense perfectionist and always been so hard on myself, just to find out that i have ocd...i can relate to this track a lot and also with the way tyler puts his heart and soul into everything that he creates and won't stop until it is exactly how he feels it.

laurestine_

Sahlo folina is a call for help (basically a made up phrase that fans could identify with)

Erika'stoes

Joined patreon to enjoy your TØP reactions. I am guessing she never knew the real him since he was suffering from Alzheimer's. I would definitely do Vessel. Early TØP is quite different but super entertaining with their experimental genre shifting.

Steph

Love the song you sang and played on guitar when your son went for the inhaler hit. You sound really good reverb and all

Marco Garcia

Hi! Me being new in this patreon channel but had to watch the full uncut reaction to tøp. I normally dont comment much but as you guys have mentioned a few times the production side, you should definitely check out The Hype - Berlin, its Tyler in the studio basically recreating this song. They have a few videos like this on their page and Spotify but The Hype is my favorite. Love your reactions btw!!

Tahis Hernandez

id love to see self titled, then you guys could do vessel right after

SnekySpider

Chlorine has one of my favorite TOP lines: Now different lives I lead My body lives on lead The last two lines may read Incorrect until said Neon Gravestones is also one of the most powerful songs and was likely influenced by the suicides of Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell & Anthony Bourdain - all of which occurred within 18 months prior to the album's release.

Jay

you should definitely do blurryface. scaled and icy is more of a "throwaway" album as you called it, but there still are a few really good songs on there in my honest opinion!

retrofaith

Hoping we get a sound like Jumpsuit on the new album that comes out in September! Breach is gonna be peak.

nico.

Jumpsuit in live is an absolute banger

Jerome Boudart

Please do blurryface and scaled and icy!! Scaled and icy is one some of the fans like to hate on, but its definitely a great album!

Erick Venegas

I never knew the context behind Legend, that's really elevated the song for me now so thanks. Also the song mentioned towards the start that was played at The Game Awards was 'The Line' from the show Arcane, it was only at TGA cos the show is based on the world of League of Legends. It's a beautiful song on it's own but having the context of the events in the show definitely heighten the experience too. This was worth the money to watch, glad you both enjoyed the album!

Arii Sky

It was unexpected but also extremely welcome. Got me through tough pandemic times.

Razer Droid

Seconded!

Razer Droid

I'd say they're subtly some of the darkest they've ever written. Songs like Good Day, Choker, Mulberry Street, Bounce Man, No Chances and Redecorate are all super deep and have so many layers of meaning hidden behind a 70s Pop sound. It's absolutely amazing writing and Kevin will definitely love it.

Razer Droid

Saw them live at the Rio de Janeiro show in january, and it was literally life changing, I've never heard music that loud, seen lights that bright, or felt a vibe so good in a room full of 20,000 people all singing and dancing in unison. It was so loud I felt it in my heart and the transitions and additional production they do for live shows made every song feel super fresh and powerful.

Razer Droid

Scaled and Icy IMO is worth doing a reaction video to. Much of the lore is explained there and the songs are fire!

Jasper Boonstra

pet cheetah is so so so important to me, i want a tattoo inspired by it.

laurestine_

totally just paid for the patreon because this is my favorite band of all time and seeing how passionately the two of you get into their music makes my soul so so so happy :,)

laurestine_

commenting again after the whole reaction, id love to see your reactions to their older albums. plenty of people were critical about scaled and icy because it was an unexpected tone, but its also worth going over

proxy

by far my favorite album of all time, and yet they still release music thats on that level consistently. i cannot believe the talent of this duo!

proxy

The happy wheels vid lol “use your glutes”

Carson Dylan

ugh i just knew that youd love this album. its just so good. vessel and blurryface are definitely worth the reactions, but ill agree with another commenter and say that before those you absolutely need to do the black parade. i swear to god your heads are gonna explode

webby

So glad youre doing the albums! Please do blurryface and vessel, and SAI. They have to be my favourite artists hands down, saw them live this week and it was the best show ive ever been to! They really lean into the bassy/rock vibe on the clacy tour and i was just in awe

Isla

personally i really like the song Pet Cheetah, the crowd went crazy when they played it live, has very cool production elements. tyler said it was written while they were watching fans uncovering the clues they'd hidden about the album 'this clique means so much to this dude it could make him afraid of his music and be scared to death he could loose it'.

Amanda

love this album, would be realy cool to see you guys dive into 'The Story' playlist on their channel, it has all the music videos that are tied into the world of Trench as well as an overview video.

Amanda

Thank you guys for this, my favorite album ever easily, seen them 3 times live and their music is honestly an integral part of my life. If you have the chance to see them they're amazing, would love to see yall watch the videos!

Gavin Oehlke

I saw them twice in Paraguay. They were amazing both times! You definitely should go if you can

Derlis Aguilera

Please do Scaled and Icy and Blurryface!!

Yetzybeth Paolly Piedrahíta

Scaled and Icy is more upbeat, but the lyrics are dark. Absolutely yall should check it out.

RooꓘIΞ 新秀

Pet Cheetah took some time to grow on me. I was iffy about it at first, but years after not listening to it, this past November I was listening to it on the way home and I started to cry during the chorus. It’s not a bad song, but it’s not one of my faves off the album but I still love it.

RooꓘIΞ 新秀

That’s actually not correct. It is referring to his wife. She met his grandpa, but only after he had Alzheimer’s. So he wishes she met the true version of him

JKjammer

Definitely check out scaled and icy. It’s an amazing album

JKjammer

Hey can i get uhhhhhhhhhhh, hmm, one cameron winter reaction please, and a diet coke

Klaidon Drury

Can’t count how many times I’ve cried to Neon Gravestones. This is the only song that I’ve ever cried to, let alone consistently. So glad you guys listened to this

Brady Dean

please we need a reaction to their self titled album either full video or even a solo stream reaction it has to happen. Its tyler and two other band members, josh wasnt in the band at the time. Its such a raw emotional album.

Devin

you guys absolutely have to see them live easily the best show ive seen, the world building and energy in the building is 10/10

Devin

I was not a fan of them before watching this, and now I am. That was a great album that I never would’ve listened to if it weren’t for y’all! Thanks 👏🏻

Trey Buckner

I fucking hate that I paid just for this only reaction, I highly recommend their entire discography

MyAncestorsAreSmilingAtMeImperials CanYouSayThesame

You've pretty much gone through the albums that id argue are actually worth checking out from them. Trench is incredible, and Clancy has a lot of great memorable tracks. The rest of their discog, however, ranges from mediocre to outright bad. Scaled and Icy is worth giving a listen if you're really into the world of Trench/Clancy and don't care that the majority of the runtime will be quite sugary sweet radio pop. There are certainly good songs on it, its just very much a worldbuilding album so Id also watch the livestream they did as well as the music videos and read up on some of the lore.

Jackerco

The "She" in legend is Tyler's niece he's said it before during interviews. Sometimes genius gives bad info!

Pat mac

I was fully expecting them to lose it over that track so I was very surprised that they didn't like it as well.

amiccus

I'm gonna post this lore explanation here that I wrote in the Clancy reaction comments, this explains Scaled And Icy's place in the story: The storyline that is being continued in this album started all the way back at Blurryface, technically. That was the introduction of the main antagonist Blurryface, aka Nico or Nicolas Bourbaki, who is the head Bishop (there are nine) of a dystopian city called Dema. At the time, all we knew was that Blurryface was a personification of Tyler's fears and insecurities. But after the album Blurryface, the band went on a long break and crafted this long narrative and all of this deep lore that goes along with it. They released these letters on a secret website by a guy named Clancy who was journaling his experiences living inside of Dema and his attempts at escaping. This is the main protagonist. Outside the walls of Dema is a mountainous region called Trench, where there is a group of rebels called the Banditos who's goal it is to overthrow the nine Bishops that control Dema and dismantle their forced religion called Vialism, that teaches self-harm and encourages suicide. The album Trench introduces us to these grander ideas and builds out the world of Trench, by talking directly about Dema and Nico and the Bishops. The next album called Scaled and Icy has Clancy captured by the Bishops after escaping Dema, where he is then forced to produce the music as a form of propaganda for the Bishops. However, he breaks out with the help of a Bishop named Keons that betrays the others and allows Clancy to escape to a nearby island called Voldsoy, which is separated from Trench by a stretch of water called the Paladin Strait. He is taught to use a power called Seizing, which supposedly only the Bishops are capable of using. It allows the user to inhabit a dead body for a short while and sort of puppet them. The Bishops have an army of dead Dema citizens that assumedly took their own lives as a show of commitment to Vialism. Using this power, Clancy is able to commune with the citizens of Dema from afar and in secret, as he teaches them the plan that he has hatched with the Banditos. Clancy does all this as he crosses the Paladin Strait back to Trench and that is where the album Clancy begins. If you watch all of the lore videos, which are the music videos that explicitly tell the story of Clancy, as well as the video titled "I Am Clancy", then you will have a very good understanding of the story up until this point. There is a lot more to explain, such as Josh's role in all of this as the Torchbearer, who is the leader of the Banditos who has his own special power. But that's too much to explain. There's almost ten years worth of lore to dig through and it's all very fascinating and immersive. But if you ever feel overwhelmed by it all, just remember that ultimately it's the music that really matters.

amiccus

seeing kevin have some tears on neon gravestones is so real, Tyler writes so personal and it helped so so so many people during awful times including myself. this album has such a important place in my (and alot of others) heart. And even tho i moved away from this genre of music and stopped listening to twentyonepilots ( and bands like panic! and mcr ) this album will forever be so important to me. Really fun to see yall react to it!

DK

haha same, i turned 13 when it came out

DK

paid just to see this! thank y'all so much!

Ella Loy

Pet Cheetah is such a great song, as a music producer/creator myself, I was really surprised that you guys didn't like it, especially Kevin, since he's a musician. It's truly a music production masterclass, with all your praise for the details and panning, you guys not being fans of it shocked me.

Owen Dyck

FOR SURE

Owen Dyck

Just paid the Patreon to see this. I just knew Kevin was gonna love this. Also if you guys ever run out of options I’d love to see what you guys have to say about My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade

Ricardo Aboytia

I forgot how much I loved this album!

Lauren

You guys would love Scaled And Icy. but know it's a completely different sound from Trench and Clancy, it's a quarantine album and also in the lore, "Clancy" is captured by Dema and forced to make music that fits their agenda, but he also hides secret messages in there, so the songs feel radio friendly and poppy but hide dark and heavy messages of hope and mental health behind the poppy sound. It's essential for the lore and also a short and sweet listen. The title is an anagram of CLANCY IS DEAD, and an abbreviation of Scaled Back and Isolated, as in "scaled back production and isolated during quarantine". Blurryface is also lore related but it focuses on the titular villain, who was later renamed Nico, "Blurryface" being one of his nicknames that he uses to intimidate the citizens of Dema. Vessel is not lore related, but touches a lot of the same themes and messages of the other albums, and is also a classic record, though not my favorite from them. Self-Titled was recorded in Tyler's parents' basement in 2009 and is much different from their later stuff but also super super heavy and darker lyrically, and definitely still worth a listen. Some of their best lyrics come from it.

Razer Droid

You should definetly do Blurryface and Vessel, both so good and explore more sounds, which is my favourite bit about the band, that they can do so many sounds and genres, and I think you would love it!!!

Usayd M.

Dude I have been WAITING for this album and the reaction to jumpsuit did not disappoint, hoping to see you guys react to more TOP projects :)

Dominic Speece

Loved this reaction. Trench came out on my birthday and it’s one of the very few albums that I connect to so much. Neon Gravestones is one of my favorite songs along with Smithereens and Legend. I’d recommend a reaction to Scaled and Icey before going into Vessel and Blurryface. It’s not their greatest album but worth a listen. Also Scaled and Icy is short for “Scaled back and Isolated”

Caebren

god i love this album so much. thankful af for this reaction right now. do you guys plan on getting to the new BC, NR?

Ryan

it would be AMAZING to see you watch the music videos for clancy — EVERY SONG on the album got a music video !!

griffinwayne

yeah fr yall could skipped scaled and icy, i really would love to see reactions of vessel or self titled honestly self titled, its just tooooo good, could even dabble in regional at best if you want lmao.

Hunter Acuna

Finally after months of waiting 😭 Trench holds a very special place in my heart and I was very glad to experience it once again with you guys. I'm so glad that you loved it. Pet Cheetah is generally concidered a great track, since it's one of the most experimental and creative ones from Trench. It's also bit of a meme. And its AMAZING live. Scaled And Icy on the other hand is very polarizing. The band went a completly different direction. It is more or less a quarantine album which is also reflected in overall theme of the album. It continues the story of Trench but not in a way you would expect. Its very very poppy, sugary, and more simplistic, what can be hard to stomach for many people after listening to Trench. Overall its good and IMO much better than their old stuff, because that did not age very well 🥶

klokan

i don’t think the lore goes back to vessel but tyler does write a lot about the morning sun being like a new hope in self titled and vessel so i think he just gradually built this world as the years went on and only started really writing it on trench

Adriana Padilla

Also love how Leave the City ends. it feels like a nice little callback to Truce from the album Vessel which is a song that has meant so much to me and I know many other fans all these years. I love everything Tyler and Josh create. Scaled & Icy is definitely split among the fans which makes me sad. Such a fun album. I'm so glad you guys reacted to Trench! I hope we get more twenty one pilots reactions in the future. :) Definitely see them live if you can!!!

Megan

I LOVE Pet Cheetah. it's definitely different and funky, but that's why I love it. and like you said - it's kinda creepy. Another reason I love it. Hahaha

Megan

would love to see both your reactions to their first album. it was released in 2009, 2 years after tyler's only solo record and 2 years before josh even joined the band. it (as far as i'm aware) isn't related to the lore but I think it's one of their best.

bruhemian

new TOP video makes my heart happy. interested to see how Kev would react to blurryface, scaled and icy in my opinion is their weakest album because of how “poppy” it is, sounds like disney channel music to me for the most part, there’s like two songs that i like on there though.

Evan B.

If you really want to be blown away by Tyler Joseph, please check out his StoryTeller performance on Youtube! You get to watch him craft reimagined versions of their songs on the spot. It's absolutely beautiful. Here's the link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laLjSp3XC7A

Birdie Church

yes vessel please!!!

Dogtooth

Their debut record (self titled) is ignored largely by reactors but to the fan base it is well loved and high tier. I can guarantee you would both love it, it is very similar to their current stuff but more raw and with more acoustic instruments. It would blow your minds for sure especially knowing how young Tyler was when writing it. Some of their best work on there for sure. If you won't react to it definitely check it out

Austin Mucciante

Scaled and Icy is polarizing within the fanbase but it still is connected to the lore. As of late there is a lot more love for the album though. There are less direct lyrics but the themes within the songs are how its connected to the story. There is a reason though for the change in direction which you will learn as you react to the music videos and specifically the "I Am Clancy" video that has tyler giving a recap. I personally enjoy Scaled and Icy a ton.

John Santana

I would definitely recommend watching the Clancy Premiere Livestream. They made a music video for each song and they gave insight on a few songs. Also depending on how deep you want to follow the lore I would recommend I Am Clancy video as it gives a quick synopsis of the entirety of the lore without all the intricacies. I will say the lore ties back to Vessel and in Blurryface we start to see the introduction of the lore with the character Blurryface, but everything from Vessel to Clancy are interconnected.

Ruben

Pet cheetah is fun, not really related to lore at all and song was absolutely amazing live

John Santana

If you wanted to get into the music videos by them while also getting into the lore of the World Of Trench, they do have a playlist of all the lore related music videos! I would recommend reacting to Scaled and Icy before you get to those music videos so youre still able to experience the music for the first time. Scaled and Icy takes place between Trench and Clancy. Also in regards to the playlist, the first video "I am Clancy" is a recap of the story until before Clancy came out. So you can choose whether to watch that one first to get the story down or watch it after "The Outside" music video so youre still able to try to interpret the videos for yourself. Here is the link! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozlHHR_eSxc&list=PL3roRV3JHZzaU_kQ4-7uv-ahPbFabFmRW

John Santana

jenna did meet his grandfather but it was moreso that by that stage he was being severely affected by the alzheimer's and tyler feels she never got to know him the way he was when tyler was growing up

Caolum McMullan

would love to see more TOP! Vesell or Scaled and Icy would be sick!

Fallout Addict

Pet Cheetah was my favourite song on my first listen and still sits in my top 10 of their discography

Tyler Callagher

What a great reaction! Trench really is a masterpiece, the following album, Scaled and Icy fits into the story of Trench, It's easy to listen to, very pop but there are many great tracks in there, I personally love the album and it is worth checking it out without a doubt! I would also love to watch a Vessel and Blurryface video from you guys :)

Kananda Rossi

enjoying Kev’s lil jam rn, he’s kinda going hard🧚

Marten 9

Lovely reaction🧚

Marten 9

TOP music vids? Yes please!

Anthony

Scaled and Icy is VERY unique and the clique is very mixed on it to this day. I think it has incredible highs, but the lows on that album are the worst songs they've put out in years.

nico.

Pet Cheetah is wacky and fun and sick and crazy and stupid and awesome

awftin

I personally really enjoyed Scaled and Icy, definitely worth a listen imo!

Nicole 💖

Probably my fav 21pilots album, just produced so well

Cole Nouwens

Pet Cheetah is a great song. Definitely doesn't fit in the album, but it's a banger.

Sam Jarrett

The Clancy World Tour is the best concert I’ve ever been to! I went to Colombia and there was not a single soul in the arena that didn’t know every single lyric to every single song. The crowd in Latin America is just way better. The energy was crazy and the whole show unforgettable! Definitely worth it!

Jonathan Arce

one of my favorite albums of all time

Lars van den Boogert

you guys should do a reaction to the lore playlist on the twenty one pilots YouTube channel

Jacob Vereen

Where’s the Djo reaction?!!??😭😭

Landon

Scaled and icy is a great listen. So much hidden details in the lyrics and background. The extremely light sound with very depressing lyrics at times is super interesting, especially with its release during the pandemic.

Xtram5 5mo

One of the best concerts I've ever been to! I'd love for y'all to see them live.

Zah

if you're interested in learning the story, you guys should do a lore deepdive video on the patreon! Would be very interested to you get stuck into it

Sammy Johnson

Commenting again now that I've finished the video. As a t.o.p. fan who also fell off after Blurryface, I regret every day I didn't listen to Trench. Incredible album with a lot of great songs and a lot of heart and vulnerability, and it really brought me back in for Scaled and Icy and Clancy. Idk if it's a shared opinion of the Clique, but I would definitely watch a Scaled and Icy reaction (lot of good fun tracks there as well), and I would 100% watch Blurryface and Vessel reactions so Kevin can see the humble beginnings that I feel still hold up today. Great reaction as always fellas!

Dominic Rizzo

I’ve been subbed to the YT Channel for 2 years now. Subbed to the Patreon today just for this album. Glad to see you guys dissecting and enjoying the album. Your dad would love the other twenty one pilots albums. Cant wait to see the next reaction if you guys ever decide to do another album. The only reaction channel I watch. You guys are the best

George Grayson

I am a huge fan of this album and Clancy and I’m loving the reactions. Scaled and Icy is a good album I think you guys would have a lot of fun reacting to. It’s a different feel, with a little bit of mainstream pop vibe. But it has tracks that are both important to the lore and sound great

BAGOSURPRISE

Pet Cheetah slaps incredibly hard, regardless of it not playing a significant part of the Dema/Trench storyline. At least to me, maybe a grower over time perhaps but I recall enjoying it upon release

Niall Lyden

“Scaled and Icy” is that album that’s connor mentioned is in between trench and clancy. fair warning. it’s a curve ball of an album. the fan base probably wants you to react to it. its not a side album it’s part of the story. on clancy in “Backslide” tyler says “kinda wishin that i didn’t do saturday” ‘Saturday’ being a song on Scaled and Icy. he says that because that album was different from trench and that twenty one pilots “sound”. but they’re all connected. scaled and icy received poor reception when it released but has grown heavily on the fan base. i would go into it with an open mind. i used to hate it now i love it. In Scaled and Icy the band was forced to make music for the people of dema. hence the sound change. it wasn’t them behind the music. it gets far deeper than that i think your father would love the story behind Scaled and Icy. but yeah! definitely react to it AND blurryface. he needs to hear goner😂

Comedy Strikez

pet cheetah is a personal favorite. been a fan since 2015 so i was there when trench came out and pet cheetah was pretty well loved. genuinely shocked you guys didnt like it i love the grime and fast paced vibe it has. especially the distortion around the crazy parts. in my opinion it probably just had a weird placement on the album that’s why it threw you guys off. i love it

Comedy Strikez

kev got that mf fit on! 🧙🏼‍♂️

venjimusic

I loved watching your reactions! - this is in my top 2 albums, surprised you didn't like pet cheetah its one of my favourites (thought I recall it took some time to grow on me) Scaled and Icy is a funny one - not as good as Trench and Clancy imo - but it links to the story and certain tracks like 'Redecorate', 'No Chances', 'Shy Away' are still pretty great - It's just much lighter and popified

JimmyNorthMusic -

The label actually tried pretty hard to keep Neon Gravestones off the album because of how direct it is, but Tyler fought HARD for it. I'm so glad he did, it's the most important song they've ever released imo.

nbcardall

THANK YOU!! So sad you didn’t enjoy Pet Cheetah as much as I did (one of my favorite songs of theirs lol) but otherwise agreed with everything you said. Love the vid :)

David Fadul

One of my first concerts was for this album, I think it still holds up as one of my favorite concerts ever
