The blackbriar woods outside the village drag imposing shadows through the wan light of the evening. The stories are always the same in this ancient place; warnings not to delve too deep into the wood, and even less so on the nights of the empty moon. But the dreams don't cease, they tempt with ephemeral shadow and flickers of soulfire.
One half-burned page crumpling to dust:
"Weave a cord of amaranth twine, oneself offer and wrists to bind
Walk on moonless night alone, and ask the woods for name unknown
Should He Who Darkens Paths appear, cast aside thine mortal fears
carve his sigil in briar bark, tilt your neck and take the mark."
