(Future Fragments) Change to release date |August-October 2020| + what we have left to do + what we're moving to Faye's Game + a lot of important info in general

Warning in advance; this is a long post. If you want the tl;dr, scroll to the bottom of the post, but we do recommend you read the full thing so you know exactly what's going on.

Over the last week or so, Triangulate, Frouge, and myself went back over what the game's got left to do, and unfortunately, things are taking longer than  we expected.

So to get it out of the way, we're going to push the game's release date to somewhere between August and October 2020.

We're doing this because we don't want to release the game incomplete to you all after all this time we've spent on it, but we're absolutely dedicated to getting it out in 2020, and we're most of the way there.

However, as noted before, there are a number of things left to do, so first i'm going to go over what we've got left, and then i'm going to go over what's taken us much longer than we thought.

-----------------------------

THINGS LEFT TO DO PURELY FOR ART/PROGRAMMING

FIRE LEVEL:

 ICE LEVEL:

 ELECTRIC LEVEL:

 EARTH LEVEL:

THE END LEVEL:

GLOBAL THINGS:

-----------------------------

Now with all that said, there's still the major role of completing the script and getting it voice-acted, which I have been working on.

It's about 75% ready, but we need to obviously hire a lot of voice actors and get that recorded, which is going to cost a lot of time (and money, and we can only operate as fast as we have the money to afford in that area, which is what the extra few months will give us time for also).

There's also commissioning the remaining music tracks, and all new sound effects for Fire and Ice (as they were using generic, free-use SFX this whole time).

All of the above is something we're confident we can get done in 2020, though.

Which leads me to the next part of this post;

-----------------------------

WHAT WE'RE CUTTING OUT OR MOVING TO FAYE'S GAME

We've talked about this too, and realized that some features just aren't worth the time/effort to get into Future Fragments if it'll delay the game any further (or we just outright realized they were bad ideas period), and so we've instead decided to remove them outright or move them to Faye's game (the sequel to Future Fragments which we'll start working on after FF is done).

-----------------------------

THINGS BEING WIPED ENTIRELY;

- Talia's Databank Responses

- One Tier of True Endings

- Second way to win for Fire/Ice/Electric/Earth/The End bosses

 - Cutscenes Viewer

-----------------------------

THINGS BEING MOVED TO FAYE'S GAME;

- Secret Bosses

 - Visual Flashiness Upgrades

 - Set Boosts

 This is just a preliminary list; as time goes on, if we feel we need to move more stuff to Faye's game we will.

-----------------------------

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THIS DELAY:

There's often a belief that people making games on Patreon are intentionally "milking", aka delaying their games indefinitely to get money as much as possible and that these people have no intention of ever actually finishing their game.

I'd like to address that with a few things to note;

We are currently dropping around $500 a month in pledges on Patreon. If this continues, obviously we won't have enough to sustain ourselves as this with our full time job, let alone having the funds to afford all the music, voicework, and SFX for the game that's remaining. So, we HAVE to get this game out ASAP.

Additionally, the income from releasing adult games on Steam and other platforms is exponentially higher than Patreon income, by a factor of at least 10x, if not higher, on average.

On top of that, we have many more games we want to make, not only Faye's game, but many games after that within the same universe as well.

So if we were really in this just to milk people and never release the game because we were solely focused on money, well, we'd be fools, because releasing a finished game and getting lots of profits off of Steam and other platforms AND continuing to make money off of your new game you're working on by having it on Patreon would make far, far more money than just "milking" your game forever.

That said, we're obviously not solely in this for money, or else we wouldn't be giving out rewards that last forever for one-time pledges or refunds no matter what for any reason.

We just want to make good games that people feel they paid a fair amount for.
But we don't want to take any longer to make it than need be, so that's why we're getting it out in 2020 no matter what.

-----------------------------

WHEN WILL DEMOS START UP AGAIN?

We'll be releasing v0.45 at the end of March/start of April.

As for what the demos will consist of going forward;

-----------------------------

AND FINALLY, WHAT'S TAKEN LONGER THAN YOU THOUGHT TO GET DONE?

It's honestly a number of factors.

-----------------------------

For those who came down here for the TL;DR;

-----------------------------

So, with all of that said, we hope you understand why we're pushing the game to release later in 2020, and we do hope that you'll both stick with us and/or come visit the Discord if you've got any grievances you want to air with us or questions or concerns.

As always, both now and in the past, and going forward too, we've appreciated all the support you've given us more than we can put into words. If it weren't for all of you, this game just simply wouldn't exist.

We hope that when the final game comes out later this year, it'll have been worth all of the time, support, and energy you've given us to get this done.

Will do, thanks a lot for the support!

The Future Fragments Team

The game keeps getting better and better keep it up.

Every time you make a choice or do something like killing an enemy or not killing them, you gain or lose points in one of seven values (things like kindness, pacifism, pessimism, optimism, etc.). At the end of the game, whatever your highest value is out of those 7, that's the core ending you get; then, the eighth value, sexuality, further changes that ending into 1 of 3 variants basically.

The Future Fragments Team

If there is a time to postpone the release date again, thankfully it is within 2020.

BOSUKETE

I haven't been keep up with this cause of life stuff, but im excited to see how things turn out after years of support! the endings thing confused me though, I mean its cool that this is being done (itll make me wanna replay it a few times) but I dont under stand how there will be three point areas to get a ending but there be 21 endings. thats like 7 endings per point group which I get but I don't get how a specific ending gets chosen. like what goes into determining an ending?

Lux

It's not like this is one of those games I've been waiting for to coop with my friends or whatnot. The actual play time on the game itself will probably be very small relative to the other games I play, the point is the type of game and the platform and the quality. Take the time you need to get it right, I'm happy to be in on the creation, and I'll be glad to help going forward on sequels and whatever other games you guys might come up with.

okay sounds good

Steven

Yeah, it's the animation part that's the hardest, as we're not using anything like Spine or other "skeletal" tools to automate animation; everything is hand-animated, frame by frame, basically.

The Future Fragments Team

Well that's great then, I'm glad you're getting better income :D I just would never want anyone to ruin themselves financially or anything pledging to us, but it sounds like you're doing fine, so thanks for the kind words and support both!

The Future Fragments Team

He's soloing all the artworks, must be tough. I don't really mind the long waiting period. Some games just take years to develop. I heard that pixel art is hard to create and not a people make them now compared to the 90s. Take your time and make the game the way your team wants it to be so there will be no regrets when the project is completed.

Naj

As the others have said. Take the time to be happy with your work. Hell even AAA games get pushed back 6-12 months. The last thing you want to do is burn yourselves out and botch the ending.

Nathan Phoenix

Truth be told (and a bit of a humble brag), I just got a huge re-enlistment bonus. I enjoy your content so felt like sharing. Thanks again for your work!

Rob

Take whatever time you need, y'all are doing a great job and it's better to give yourselves the time and energy you need to make a great product than rushing to meet a deadline.

circumlocutory

We really appreciate the understanding from you and everyone else replying, it means a lot to us; we definitely intend to keep making games for a long time.

The Future Fragments Team

This is something we'd love to do but as we only have one artist for the entire game, having him do that stuff would only delay the game further.

The Future Fragments Team

I promise we won't burn out, we got a lot of passion left in us to get this done and finish it off once and for all :D

The Future Fragments Team

You didn't have to do that man, although it's extremely appreciated, and yeah, it does suck dropping this stuff but we don't wanna be working on this in 2021 still, we're dedicated to getting this out ASAP.

The Future Fragments Team

To be clear, you'll be able to watch any sex cutscenes in the gallery, so they'll still be there. For the voice work though, it's just not an option for us to have the game partially voiced, as many people backed us specifically due to the breadth of voice work, and the game's design was planned out for that also. It should be noted that the full game will not have any tutorial sections like the one in the electric level, and databanks will be collectible so you can read them on your own time, meaning you wont need to do any of that if you just want to play the game at that time and check out the lore later. For the scope creep stuff, we haven't added in anything in years that we didn't originally have planned for the game, so I'd say in this case it's more like "didn't expect this stuff to take this long" creep :P

The Future Fragments Team

Please take the time you need to make the game great. While I look forward to playing the finished version I don't mind waiting for it to be done right. I appreciate all the effort you are putting into this project and want to see what you have planned for after the release. More games from a good developer are always welcome. =)

Boz Payen

Maybe you could release erotic artworks of Talia, Faye and Vie once in while to appease supporters while they're waiting. The works need not to be related to the game's story.

Naj

Quality takes time. You’re trying to make a quality GAME with quality H-content. Once this is your, your team will be able to do anything. Keep it up guys and please don’t burn out. Thoughts and prayers for you, your health and happiness <3

FLYSOLO

It appears you are a victim of scope creep, which is not uncommon for indy game developers. I'm glad you have decided to cut some additional, unnecessary features, but I'm disappointed you are dropping the cutscene viewer. I know this isn't part of your original vision, but you may want to consider dropping some voice acting. I feel voice acting greatly adds to the experience for cutscenes, but is annoying for most everything else (instructions, background lore, etc.). I can read faster than the voice-over, so I skip ahead and never listen to the speech anyways (regardless of the game).

Daddy Warbucks

Appreciate the effort. This has to be the highest quality H-game I've yet to encounter (and I've played a lot). As such I'll pledge a $50 tier for a month or two. I'm glad you got the foresight to drop certain aspects in order to get it released. It's a hard thing to come to terms with as a creator.
