Gift of Hedone: Coding is hard... but i'm loving it. (Update)
Added 2024-06-12 23:00:05 +0000 UTCHello you wonderful deviants,
As you may recall I was able to get some dedicated time off my real life job to fast track my learning.
It has been.... a lot! In the best way, and in a very challenging way. The courses I was focusing on this time were the ones covering the main fundamentals. And I'll admit I definitely had to rewatch some concepts multiple times haha.
The Next course with the knowledge I now have that I plan on tackling is
https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-unity-platformer/
Then the below
https://www.udemy.com/course/2d-rpg-alexdev/
And as much as I would love to jump straight to - The Ultimate Guide to Creating an RPG Game in Unity" I have been advised doing a Platformer first is highly recommended
My optimistic plan is that once I have finished both of these courses, we can technically be in the "production phase" which would be huge!
So as always, thank you so much for coming on this journey with me, if you have any questions about what ive learnt of the courses let me know. But you are all the best!

Yeah undertale is a big inspiration for that reason, at the end of the day most people won't see or even understand the code, so if it works, and the players enjoy it, happy days! 😁

2024-06-26 05:44:33 +0000 UTCBiggest advice I can give as a "for fun" indie developer is when you're making a new feature, focus on getting something that works, then moving on. If the imperfections are still bothering you later on in development you can always go back and tweak it. It doesn't need to be perfect. Undertale is a very successful game and dialogs was handled by keeping a huge, massive switch statement with hundreds of cases for each option. This is wildly inefficient and hard to manage, but it works. Because it worked, it didn't need to be changed in the end. Getting something that works and progressing onwards will keep you with a feeling of progress which helps with motivation. Trying to perfect every feature will make you feel like you're not getting anywhere.

2024-06-13 01:03:57 +0000 UTCAs someone who learned C++/C# and Python in high school and haven't touched it since, I appreciate the struggle. Kinda makes me wanna jump back into it at some point myself! Love all the hard work, keep it up!
