Chapter 28 – Martial Journeys Begin and Continue

Kale and Caulifla were sitting on the small porch of Kame House, having finished their last day of training under Master Roshi. It had been eight full months now and both girls felt like they’d grown by leaps and bounds from what they’d been when they’d started.

“You think Bulma and Goku will show up?” Caulifla asked, her eyes scanning the horizon across the ocean again.

Kale nodded, believing in their boyfriend and girlfriend keeping their promise to them. “They’ll be here. They promised us last month when they visited.” Technically Bulma and Goku had visited about a week apart, but they’d both made the same promise to be here for the day that Kale and Caulifla would begin their own martial arts journeys.

“Still can’t believe you two are leaving me and Lunch here with the old pervert.” Launch teased the two teens as she stepped out of the house as well, her green eyes scanning the horizon briefly.

“We all know he’s too scared of you to try anything.” Caulifla waved off with a smirk.

Kale gave them both a flat look. “You both know that Master won’t do anything to his own students.” For all that Roshi was a pervert, he properly upheld the honor of the Master and Disciple relationship. Not that he would say ‘no’ to any ogling that he could get in, of course.

Launch sat down and leaned against the wall of Kame House to wait with Kale and Caulifla. “Yeah, but I have to get in some teasing before you two head out.” It was hard to believe that four months had already passed since she started training under Master Roshi. Everyday was similar tasks: milk delivery, plowing fields by hand, construction, swimming, dodging training, and some academic learning, which Lunch helped with since none of the girls saw any educational value in Roshi’s brand of literature. ‘Still, I can’t argue with the results.’ Launch thought to herself as she flexed her hand, clenching it into a fist and feeling the strength that she’d diligently built up.

“Hm?” Caulifla perked up slightly and turned her head as the faint sounds of someone running caught her ears.

Kale and Launch turned to look in the same direction, wondering what Caulifla was looking at, until they heard the same sound. A dust cloud appeared on the hill that led into the nearest down and a familiar orange gi stood out at the front of it.

“Hey!” Goku called out as he ran towards Kame House and the Capsule House next to it. He was smiling brightly as he waved his hand above his head.

“Goku!” Launch, Kale, and Caulifla all called out happily at seeing their boyfriend again.

Goku skidded to a stop in front of Kame House with a big smile on his face. “I made it!” He cheered with a laugh as he nearly caught Caulifla and Kale as the two girls practically threw themselves at him and wrapped him in a double hug. “I missed you too!”

Kale nuzzled into Goku as she squeezed him close. “I knew you’d make it, Goku.”

“Not seeing you for a month sucks.” Caulifla said as she grinned at Goku.

“It’ll be longer than that once you two head out tomorrow.” Launch reminded them both that on their martial arts journeys, whether they met up with each other was up to chance unless they specifically set up a date and place to meet ahead of time.

Caulifla tsked at that. “Don’t remind me.”

Launch hugged Goku next, humming lowly when Goku hugged her close. “That’s for keeping your promise to come visit.” She’d been thrilled to be able to see Goku usually once a month since she’d begun her training. Goku would stop by to visit and relax from his journey and stay with Launch, Kale, and Caulifla for a day or two before he took off again.

“I swam to the island again, but ended up on the far side of it, so I ran all the way here!” Goku told the three girls with a smile.

“You beat Bulma here this time.” Kale giggled with a little smile on her lips. Last time it had been Goku that had arrived second.

The screen door of Kame House opened and Roshi smiled at seeing Goku again. “Hey there, Goku! Good to see ya again!” He walked over and patted Goku on the shoulder. “You’re still traveling on foot and not using the Flying Nimbus, right?” Roshi grinned at Goku with a chuckle.

Goku nodded with a big smile. “Yep! I swam here and then ran across the island!”

“Good lad!” Roshi laughed, glad that Goku was faithfully following the instructions he’d laid out to help the young man continue to grow.

A minute later and the sound of someone rapidly approaching was heard again. Bulma ran towards Kame House as easily as if she was lightly jogging, her long hair flying behind her in a ponytail. When she came to a stop, kicking up a small cloud of dust, she waved to everyone with a smile. “Yo!”

“Bulma!” She was nearly tackled by Goku, Launch, Kale, and Caulifla who all wrapped her into a hug at the same time.

“Hahaha!” Bulma laughed brightly at the affection and kissed all four of them one after another.

Launch smirked at Bulma. “We missed you.” Her hands trailed down Bulma’s back and took hold of her ass, giving it a little squeeze.

Bulma grinned right back at Launch. “I can tell~”

“Dinner is almost ready!” Lunch called out from the window with a bright smile as she waved to Goku and Bulma. “I made extra!”

“I could eat.” Bulma grinned as she rubbed her tummy. “Swimming here from the southern archipelago took a while.”

Goku looked out over the ocean towards the horizon. “Too bad Krillin isn’t here.”

“I’m sure he’s training right now somewhere out in the world.” Kale said with a nod, confident that Krillin was taking his martial arts journey seriously.

-Kome Region-

Just to the west of East City lay a vast region of lakes and rivers, covered in verdant nature. It was home to many small towns and villages, most of them agricultural and filled with farmers. In fact, it was from this region that the majority of the produce and grains that fed East City came from.

“Hup!” Krillin threw a roundhouse kick towards his opponent, but the other man weaved around it and nearly swept Krillin’s foot out from under him. “Whoa!” Krillin dodged backwards and made a bit of distance, assessing his opponent again.

“Hohoho… You are very well trained, youngster.” The old man that Krillin was sparring with chuckled. He was dressed in orange-brown monk robes, had a bald head and a long, flowing beard. His eyes were closed as he smiled at Krillin and took up his martial arts stance again, his palms out and his knees slightly bent. “But youth and strength comes with a lack of experience in the martial arts.”

Krillin blurred forward, feinting a headlong charged, and shifted at the last instant, leaving behind an After Image. The old monk dispersed the After Image with a swift palm strike, and then swept the same arm in a wide arc towards Krillin’s head. With a small grunt, Krillin blocked the strike and kicked at the old man’s leg, but the old man raised his leg to block the kick easily enough. A second palm strike came at Krillin’s chest, and he threw his own palm strike in response.

Boom

The force behind the two palm strikes meeting shook the air, proving that the old monk who had spent his life pursuing martial arts did have some understanding of ki and its applications in combat.

“You’re skills are very impressive, elder.” Krillin gave respect to the old monk as he’d used the resulting shockwave to make distance.

“Hohoho… I should be saying that to you young man.” The old man chuckled as his experienced eyes examined Krillin again. “To think someone so young has such an understanding of ki.” He moved forward this time, his foot coming upwards to strike Krillin’s jaw from below.

Krillin leaned backwards to dodge the kick and grabbed the old monk’s leg, pivoting to the side to toss the man a distance away. While the old monk was airborne, Krillin focused and aimed his palm at the man a small yellow ball of ki forming in only a second before being launched at speed. “Got it!” He smiled widely at actually using the small ki blast in real combat for the first time.

“Hup!” The old monk saw the attack coming and twisted his body in midair. The small ball of ki flew past him and then dispersed roughly twenty meters behind him as he landed on the ground. “Oh ho! Very impressive, young man!”

“You dodged that?!” Krillin gaped at the old monk being able to dodge in midair like that. He did make note of the movement that the old man had done, planning to try practicing it himself.

The old monk chuckled at Krillin’s surprise. “As I said, youngster; experience is a power all its own.” He blurred forward and Krillin saw the approach, managing to raise his guard as the old monk’s double palm strike slammed into his arms and launched Krillin backwards.

Krillin flipped through the air and his feet touched the ground, skidding through the grass from the remaining force. “Ack! You hit almost as hard as that old master Jackie Chun!” He shook out his arms, glad that he was more durable after Master Roshi’s training. “Why didn’t you participate in the last Tenka’ichi Budokai, elder?”

“Hohoho, no, such things are for the young.” The old monk laughed warmly at the idea of competing in that tournament. “When you live your life as a monk, as I have, you let go of such aspirations and desires and focus instead on spiritual development on the path towards enlightenment.”

Krillin nodded at that. It was different from Orin Temple’s doctrine, which promoted martial arts as a path to self-betterment and the protection of the areas surrounding the temple. “Meeting people like you was one of the things that I hoped to do on my martial arts journey.”

The old man smiled at Krillin. “Ah, a martial arts journey. It has been decades since I went on my own pilgrimage across the world. Where are you planning to head from here, if I may ask, youngster.”

“I’m not sure, sir.” Krillin admitted to not having a concrete plan after he’d left East City. “I was mostly wandering here and there without much destination. My only goal is to improve my martial arts and help those I can.”

The old monk hummed thoughtfully, stroking his beard once. “Why not visit the five metropolis cities? You’ve already been to East City, if you head northwest from here through the mountains, you’ll reach North City. From there you can head southwest to Central City, and then further west to West City, before heading south to South City. You’ll cover a significant amount of the world on such a path.”

Krillin considered the idea for a moment, vaguely mapping out such a route on a world map in his head. It wasn’t a bad idea and would allow him to travel around the entire world before the next Tenka’ichi Budokai.

“I am glad that our paths have crossed today, elder.” Krillin bowed to the old man before retaking his stance. Now having a clear path set out for his martial arts journey.

The old monk chuckled as he took up a slightly different stance than before. “As am I, young man.” He’d invite the young martial artist to the temple after their spar and let him stay for the night. As one of the elder monks, he’d make sure that the young man had plenty of provisions for the next leg of his journey.

-Next Morning ~ Training Island-

Master Roshi stood across from both Kale and Caulifla with a proud smile for his disciples. Lunch, Bulma, Goku, and Launch stood to the side, watching happily as Caulifla and Kale completed their training under Roshi.

“Your time under my tutelage has come to an end.” Roshi told Kale and Caulifla with a smile. “Through your dedicated training these last eight months, you’ve honed your bodies and your minds like steel swords. Martial arts is no more than the application of those abilities.” Getting a nod of understanding from both girls, Roshi continued. “Now, as you begin your own journeys out into the world, it is time for you to come out of your shells.” This was a bit of a tradition in the Turtle School when a disciple completed their training, and Roshi was always proud when he got to see it.

Kale and Caulifla both shrugged off their heavy turtle shells and let them fall to the ground.

Thud

Thud

The two eighty kilogram shells left indents in the ground from their weight.

“Wow… You really notice the loss of weight.” Caulifla grinned as she rolled her shoulders a bit, her body feeling like it weighed nothing now.

“Mmm!” Kale hummed as she stretched her arms above her head. “It feels great!”

Roshi nodded to both of them with a little chuckle. “Indeed. You’re now free to travel across the world on your own journeys, living and training in any way you desire. But just as I’ve told the others before you; you must NOT rely on vehicles or other forms of transportation to get around. Walk, run, swim, climb, all of this will be your training on your journey.”

Caulifla and Kale both nodded to Roshi. “Yes, Master!”

“One last thing,” Roshi looked between Kale and Caulifla. “I know that you two are very close and have been since you were infants. However, on this journey, you must go your separate ways and see the world solely through your own eyes and with only your own thoughts and perception. I assure you that it will be most enlightening as life teaches you both individual lessons.”

Kale looked at Caulifla, clearly not wanting to be apart, but understanding where Roshi was coming from. “Yes, Master.”

Caulifla smiled and wrapped Kale in a one-armed hug. “Don’t be sad, Kale! We have the same first destination!” She reminded Kale that they were both heading for Korin Tower first on their martial arts journeys. “We can make it a race!”

Bulma came over with Goku and Launch and pulled out a map that she’d taken to carrying with her while traveling around on her own martial arts journey. “If you’re both heading to Korin Tower, there’s two different ways you can take.” She set the map on the ground and everyone gathered around it as Bulma pointed at the Training Island that they were currently on. “Since we’re here, one of you can swim north and get to the mainland, then head west and northwest along the coast and it’ll lead you towards the Land of Korin.” She trailed her finger along the map, showing the path she was talking about.

Lunch smiled as she pointed towards the southern archipelago. “And one of them can ‘island hop’ towards the western peninsula and then head straight north, right?”

“Exactly!” Bulma declared with a smile at Lunch.

Kale and Caulifla both looked at the map and the two different paths that were being shown to them. After a moment to look at each path, the two Saiyan girls looked at each other with smiles.

“I’ll do the island hopping!” Caulifla declared with a grin. “Maybe I’ll even pass by the Tenka’ichi Budokai temple and see if they’ve fixed it up yet.” She joked with a smirk.

“Then I’ll travel the mainland route.” Kale agreed with a smile.

Launch smirked a little. “Maybe I should head there once my training are over too. You both might still be there, after all.” She teased both of the slightly younger teens.

Caulifla and Kale were quick to deny that.

“We’ll be done way before then!” Caulifla declared as she shot to her feet with her fist raised in front of her.

Kale nodded twice. “Yeah! We’ll learn everything Master Korin can teach us just as fast as Bulma and Goku did!”

“You’ll both do great!” Goku agreed with a bright smile for both girls.

Caulifla smirked as she reached out and grabbed Goku’s gi, pulling him close so that she could capture his lips in a kiss. Goku happily leaned into the kiss for a long moment before Caulifla pulled back. “And any time we find each other, we’ll have to have some fun, Goku.”

“Sis!” Kale blushed adorably at how Caulifla’s words could be interpreted. That didn’t stop her from leaning into Goku for her own kiss as well.

“Don’t leave us out~” Bulma grinned as she turned Caulifla’s chin towards her and kissed the other girl’s lips.

Launch pulled Kale’s lips to her own as soon as the other girl pulled back from Goku. “Mmm~”

“Hey now, you kids!” Roshi broke up the kisses as Bulma kissed Kale and Launch kissed Caulifla. “You can have your lovey-dovey time later on!” He wasn’t envious! Roshi was just one-hundred percent certain that the group of five had spent plenty of time last night on such things!

“Jealous, old man?” Caulifla teased with a smirk at Roshi.

“Sis,” Kale lightly rebuked Caulifla. “She didn’t mean that, Master.”

Goku chuckled at Roshi pouting while looking off to the side. “You look funny, Master Roshi!”

Roshi shook his head once. “Anyway! It’s time for you all to continue your journeys in the martial arts without my direction. Go now and let life be your teacher!” He pointed his staff towards the horizon where the ocean was shining in the morning sunlight.

“Wait!” Lunch called out as she quickly ran back into Kame House and came back out a moment later. “Here!” She beamed at her friends brightly as she held out a Capsule to Caulifla, Kale, Bulma, and Goku. “I cooked up enough food to keep even a Saiyan full for a week! One for each of you!”

“Nice!” Caulifla cheered as she took one of the Capsules.

“Thank you, Lunch!” Kale beamed at the slightly older girl.

Goku took his Capsule with a big smile as well. “Thank you so much!”

Bulma took the last Capsule with a smile and hugged Lunch. “Thanks a lot. Having homecooked food on the road is something I didn’t realize that I’d miss until I traveled with Goku the first time. Being on this training journey is making me realize just how long it’ll be between enjoying someone else’s home cooking too.”

“You’re welcome!” Lunch smiled warmly at all of her friends.

The Saiyans shared hugs for a moment, even pulling Lunch into it as more thanks for making so much food for them, and then Caulifla and Kale looked at each other.

“See you at Korin Tower, Kale!” Caulifla held out her fist to Kale.

“See you there, sis!” Kale smiled as well as she fist bumped Caulifla, feeling a bit better about traveling alone when she knew that they’d meet up soon enough.

Caulifla took off towards the town, making a beeline towards the far shore of the Training Island to start island hopping towards the western peninsula. Kale, not to be outdone, ran towards the northern shore and jumped into the ocean, swimming swiftly through the water towards the mainland. The race was on between them both and the finish line was Korin Tower.

Launch hugged Goku from behind and kissed his cheek. “I’ll see you both during your next visits.” She looked ad Bulma with a sexy little grin.

“You will.” Bulma agreed as she wrapped Goku in a hug and pecked Launch’s lips as they trapped their boyfriend between their bodies.

Goku wasn’t complaining as he smiled while his tail was gently wrapped up by both Launch and Bulma’s tails. “We’ll both be here for the completion of your training too, Launch!” He promised with a bright smile as he turned his head to look at the blonde.

“Thanks, Goku.” Launch smiled and kissed him for a long moment before pulling away.

Bulma and Launch shared a kiss of their own for an equally long moment, both smiling at each other when they pulled their lips away from each other. “I’ll see you after a while, Launch.” Bulma promised as well.

“Which direction are you heading in, Goku?” Bulma asked as she looked towards the northwest.

“I think I’ll head that way.” Goku pointed in what would be almost directly north. “That’s about the same direction that got me to the mainland last time!” He smiled at Bulma.

Bulma nodded as she folded her map back up and put it into a waterproof case that now had two Capsules in it, a familiar House Capsule and the Capsule full of food that Lunch had given her. “Then we’ll see each other again, for sure, when we come to celebrate Launch’s completed training.”

Goku nodded at that. “Sure thing, Bulma!”

Their lips met again for a short kiss before they both waved to Roshi, Launch, and Lunch and then took off, nearly becoming blurs as they headed in their chosen directions to continue their own martial arts journeys.

“And with that, it’s back to training!” Roshi declared as he pointed with his staff towards the town.

“Yeah, yeah! I’m going!” Launch said as she jogged towards the milk farm to gather her crates and start the milk delivery for the morning.

Lunch waved to her sister until she was out of sight and then headed back into Kame House. She had a few hours before she needed to start preparing lunch, so she’d enjoy some TV until then.

-Ten Days Later ~ Southern Archipelago – Gyokairui Town-

Caulifla was walking through a fishing town when her stomach growled loudly. “Hungry…” She groaned out while rubbing her stomach. “Maybe I can get something to eat around here?”

What should’ve been a lively seafood market was almost completely empty, however. All of the stalls that would normally have plenty of fish, shellfish, and other seafood were empty. A few people were still around, but all of them were clearly despondent, as if resigned to their empty market.

“Yo! Where’s all the food?” Caulifla asked an older man that was dressed in workman’s clothes and had a scruffy brown beard and moustache on his tanned face.

“Market’s closed, girl.” The man replied gruffly, not even getting up from the small crate he was sitting on. “We can’t fish with that sea beast off our shores.”

Caulifla blinked and looked out towards the ocean. She didn’t see any signs of a ‘sea beast’ out there, but that didn’t necessarily mean anything. “What kind of sea beast?”

The old fisherman sighed, looking over Caulifla in her pink tube top and purple harem pants. “You’re definitely not from around here, so I’ll tell ya. A titanic crab-like beast waits beneath those pristine waves. Its claws cut ships in half and its shell is so hard that even our harpoons couldn’t pierce it. Ever since it showed up we can’t even go into the shallows without it appearing and attacking us. Our fishing town will soon dry up entirely.” He let out a heavy breath and picked up a bottle of alcohol before taking a swig.

“So…if that crab goes away, this place would be full of food again?” Caulifla asked, taking the parts that she found most important from the man’s explanation.

“I suppose so…” The old fisherman said, slowly setting the bottle down as he looked at Caulifla strangely.

Caulifla’s stomach growled again. “Ugh, I need food now though.”

“Girl…are you saying that you can do something about that sea beast?” The old man questioned Caulifla, now looking at her more seriously.

“Yeah, it shouldn’t be too hard.” Caulifla shrugged, not seeing a large crab as a threat.

The fisherman looked at Caulifla skeptically for a long moment. “Come with me, girl. We’ll talk with the mayor.” He stood up and left his half-finished bottle of booze behind.

Not seeing any reason to deny the man, Caulifla followed after him, placing her arms behind her head in a carefree position.

It didn’t take long for the fisherman to find the mayor. The man was at the largest local tavern, having a small meal and a large—and strong—drink. The other villagers that had gathered at the tavern all looked much the same as the old fisherman: resigned, tired, and worried about the future of their town.

“Mayor, this young lass here says that she can deal with the beast for us.” The old fisherman said, getting the mayor to look over at Caulifla.

The mayor was about the same age as the older fisherman, but looked a bit less rugged. More than likely because of the difference between their professions. The mayor had dark brown hair, a trimmed moustache and goatee, but the same tanned skin as most of the other townspeople. His brown eyes looked Caulifla over—lingering on her chest for a second given that Caulifla’s ‘arms behind the head’ pose pushed her tits out a bit—before looking at her face. “You don’t look like you possess anything that can deal with that beast, little lady.” He shook his head and picked up his flagon of booze.

“I don’t need anything except my fists.” Caulifla said confidently as she punched her right fist into her left palm. Her stomach rumbling loudly got the attention of everyone in the tavern.

“We don’t have much, lass.” The old tavern keeper said with a friendly smile as he brought out a platter of rice, seaweed, and some smoked fish. “But, please, fill your stomach.”

Caulifla was sitting on the barstool in front of the food faster than most of the townspeople in the tavern could keep track of. “Really?! Thanks, old timer!” She beamed at the old tavern keeper, ignoring the shocked gasps of the people around her at her speed. She began to devour the platter of food in front of her with gusto.

“D-Did you see her move?” The old fisherman asked the mayor, still blinking his eyes as if they’d failed him.

The mayor shook his head slowly. “N-No…not at all…”

The murmurings of the townspeople increased in the tavern as they all wondered if perhaps Caulifla could help them with their situation.

“Y-Young lady…” The mayor looked at Caulifla hopefully now. “Are you certain that you could get rid of that sea beast for us?”

“Yep.” Caulifla nodded as she grabbed the flagon of water that the old tavern keeper set down and chugged it all in one go. She didn’t pay any attention to the bugged out eyes and gasps of shock from the other townspeople as they all eyed the completely empty platter.

“Sh-She finished all of that in less than a minute?” One of the townspeople gaped at the cleared platter and the now empty flagon.

The mayor bowed at a perfect ninety-degree angle to Caulifla. “Young lady! If you could help save our town, we’ll happily let you eat for free from the very first fishing haul that we bring back! You can have as much as you’d like!”

Caulifla perked up and a wide smile spread crossed her face. “As much as I want?! For free?! Deal!” She was out the door in a blur and rushing towards the shore.

“Uh… How is she planning to get the beast out of the water?” The old fisherman asked aloud, though not directing the question to anyone specifically.

At the beach, Caulifla grinned widely as she threw both of her palms forward. “KIAI!!!” She unleashed the force and the tide that was coming in was blasted backwards, pushing a large amount of the seawater backwards in a wave.

It didn’t take long for Caulifla to feel the little tremor beneath her feet. Followed by multiple others. The water of the shallows roiled and surged as something massive moved through it.

SPLASH

What rose up from the seawater was a truly immense crustacean. Its shell was black and as large across as a fishing boat. The two massive pincers snapped at the air with loud clacks as the eyes of the creature focused on the sole being on the beach. Its multiple legs stabbed into the sand like spears as it approached Caulifla with clear intent to attack and devour her.

“Bigger food than fish…” The crustacean said, talking similarly to the large octopus in the pirate cave that she and Goku had eaten. The creature almost seemed more like it was repeating words, rather than truly understanding them. “Why you here…?” It reached towards Caulifla with one of its pincers, clearly not actually caring about her answer.

“Why am I here?” Caulifla repeated the question as she easily dodged the claw that made a sharp ‘snap’ sound as it closed on the empty air. “I just love free food.” Her dark eyes sharpened as she looked at the titanic crustacean. “And you look like seafood!” She leapt straight at the crab beast and cocked back her fist.

Crack

The ‘face’ of the crab shattered under the force of Caulifla’s punch and its legs left the sand entirely. The crustacean flew backwards through the air and crashed down into the ocean with a huge splash. The creature didn’t even twitch as it slowly began to sink below the waves, such was the force that had hit it and instantly taken its life.

“Where are you going?!” Caulifla demanded as she leapt a huge distance and dived into the ocean. When she surfaced again, she was grabbing one of the massive claws of the beast. “Get on land and be my lunch!” She began to swim back, pulling the half-floating creature along until she got to the shallows and could walk, using her strength to drag the dead crab out of the ocean and onto the beach.

“EH?!” The massive shout of shock that came from the mayor, the old fisherman, and the dozens and dozens of townsfolk that had come to the shore to see if Caulifla would be able to help them with the sea beast was so loud that Caulifla almost flinched at the volume.

Caulifla looked at all of the gathered people with a grin. “See? Told ya it was no big deal!” She patted the dead crustacean with a laugh. “Now, what about that free food? And can you cook this thing up too?”

“CALL ALL OF THE FISHERMEN IN TOWN!!!” The mayor suddenly yelled loudly, getting the townspeople to start cheering and many of them ran into town to gather the fishermen. “Our waters are safe again! Let’s fish and bring our market back to life!”

“YEAH!!!” The rest of the townsfolk yelled out in agreement.

Caulifla tore open the shell of the crab to get at the meat while watching as hundreds of fishermen started rushing to their boats and prepping them to sail. Over a dozen men and women from the town approached with cookware and warm smiles for the savior of their town as they started cooking up the massive amount of crab meat that they could harvest from the slain beast.

“Please, young lady, enjoy some butter and herb crab!” One of the women helping cook placed a large platter, piled high with the seasoned and buttered meat, in front of Caulifla.

“Thanks!” Caulifla beamed as she stabbed a piece of the crab meat with a fork, picked up a large amount of the meat, and then stuffed it into her mouth. “Mmm!” Her eyes practically sparkled as she enjoyed the rich flavor of the crab meat. “That’s good!” She cheered loudly as she began to rapidly devoured the food in front of her, much to the laughter of the townspeople that were already bringing her more of the meat to eat.

The entire town turned into a festival almost as soon as the fishing boats came back a few hours later. The market was filled with life, every stall open and ladened with the day’s catch. Seafood of all types was being grilled, boiled, steamed and covered in various herbs, spices, sea salt, and sauces. Life and revelry had rapidly returned to the seaside town as lights lit up while the sun began to set.

Much to the shock of all of the townsfolk, Caulifla had eaten EVERYONE under the table. She laughed loudly as she finished off the plates of food that her ‘competitors’ had been unable to. A generous offer from the local inn keeper saw Caulifla spread across a king-sized bed in their most luxurious room that night, snoring away after stuffing herself with enough food to feed fifty men.

-Next Day ~ Frypan Mountain-

Kale was smiling as she jogged—though it was faster than even an Olympic sprinter could run—down a dirt road, enjoying the nature of the region. She’d heard about the burning mountain that Master Roshi had destroyed back when Bulma and Goku had been on their quest for the Dragon Balls, and wanted to see the missing mountain for herself. ‘It’ll be good to get an idea of the kind of power that I should be aiming to surpass.

She came to a stop at the top of a hill and looked down to see a village. A large castle had been built in front of a widespread area covered in huge stones, as if a landslide had happened. The village before the castle seemed to be half new and half-rebuilt. A far cry from the destroyed and smoldering place that Goku and Bulma had described. Jogging down the hill and into the village, Kale blinked and came to a stop as her new perspective made it clear what the ‘landslide’ actually was.

“All of that rubble is the remains of the mountain…” Kale trailed off in surprise, wondering how Master Roshi could’ve destroyed such a huge thing with a single Kamehameha. “Are we not doing it right?” She wondered while briefly looking at her hands, having performed the technique well over a hundred times by now.

“Welcome to the land of the Ox King, young lady.” A woman greeted Kale from a nearby stall selling cloth in various colors and patterns.

“Hello.” Kale returned the woman’s greeting politely. She walked into the village and began to look around. The market was filled with various items being sold, and people moved about, all of them clearly happy to have returned to their old homes. Smelling something good, Kale followed the smoky scent and arrived at a food stall selling grilled meat skewers.

“Hello, young lady. Interested in a little food?” The young man grilling the meat asked with a smile.

Kale nodded as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a some Zeni bills that she’d saved up but never really had a place to spend. “How many can I get for this?”

The man’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked at the bills and mentally counted them up. “Uh…like thirty of them…”

“I’ll take thirty, please!” Kale smiled brightly as she handed the money over.

“Y-Yes, ma’am!” The young man nodded as he accepted the money. “If you’re buying that much, I can cut you a deal.” He counted up the skewers that he already had cooked up and fresh off the grill. “How about I give you the thirty for just this much?” He offered as he handed one of the bills back to Kale.

Kale took the bill back and smiled brightly at the man. “Thank you, sir!”

The young man blushed slightly at Kale’s smile. “Even prettier than the princess…” He uttered out under his breath, but Kale still heard him with her Saiyan ears.

“The princess?” Kale asked and the young man nearly flinched, his face going dark red.

“N-Nothing! Here’s your skewers!” The young man handed Kale a wooden plate piled high with thirty meat skewers.

Kale happily took the plate and sat down at a small wooden table with two wooden chairs at the side of the stall. She picked up the first skewer and took a bite, pulling off the first piece of meat and chewing it. “Mm! It’s good!” She happily ate the rest of the meat off the first skewer and then took one in each hand, eating them quickly, one after another, much to the surprise of the young man that was grilling a new batch.

In a short time all thirty skewers had been eaten and Kale returned the wooden plate to the young man at the stall.

“Glad you enjoyed it, Miss.” The young man smiled at Kale as he accepted the plate back. His eyes gave Kale a once over and he wondered if he should try to ask for a date with the beautiful girl.

“Thanks for the food.” Kale smiled and waved as she walked away before the young man could say anything else.

The young man hung his head and let out a sigh. “Damn it… I hesitated.” It wasn’t the first time that he’d missed a chance to try and ask out a girl because of his nerves.

Kale walked through the village towards the castle with a smile. The people were lively and friendly, smiles and polite greetings were heard as they welcomed the obvious traveler in their midst. When she got close to the castle, a large man in armor caught her attention.

He was an absolute mountain of a man. Bearded and broad shouldered, with huge muscled arms, a barrel chest, and thick legs. The man had a helmet covering the top of his head and his eyes, two horns sticking out from the sides. He wore thick leather armor with a star imprinted on both sides of the massive breastplate. A cape was tied around his neck and fell down his back. On his wrists were thick armbands and his feet were covered by traditional boots.

Even though she’d never met him before, Kale knew who this man was thanks to hearing about him from Goku, Bulma, and Roshi. Gyu-Mao, the Ox King and a past disciple of Master Roshi. With a smile, Kale walked towards the ‘king’ of this land and when he noticed her and turned to face her, she put her hands together and gave him a proper martial artist’s bow.

“Who’re you, little lady?” Gyu-Mao asked Kale curiously.

Kale smiled up at the huge man. “My name is Kale. I greet my senior disciple.” She gave a shorter bow this time before straightening up and showing Gyu-Mao the large patch with the Turtle School emblem on it that she’d had added on the back of her maroon shirt. “I’ve completed Master’s training and am now on my martial arts journey around the world, sir.”

Gyu-Mao straightened up a bit before a huge smile spread across his face. “Well, ya don’t say?! Hahahahaha! So Master has taken in a few more disciples, has he?! That’s great to hear! Is the Master still in good health?”

“Healthy and…his ‘normal’ self, as always.” Kale answered with a small smile.

“Oh, that makes me happy!” Gyu-Mao declared with a bright laughter. He turned towards the castle and cupped his hands around his mouth. “Chi-Chi! Come out here and meet my junior disciple!” He bellowed out loudly enough that Kale nearly winced.

A girl about the same age as Kale, maybe a year or two younger, came out of the castle. She was wearing a blue and white bikini armor, pink gloves and boots, a green cape, and a pink helmet with an axe-like blade on the top of it.

“We have a visitor, dad?” Chi-Chi asked with a polite smile.

Kale looked the other girl over and blinked once. The outfit didn’t bother her, from a Saiyan perspective it covered what needed to be covered among other people and that was enough. But with Kale’s more ‘meek’ (by Saiyan standards) personality… ‘Definitely not something that I’d wear in public. But for Goku…’ She barely stopped her cheeks from turning red as she imagined it. “Hello, my name’s Kale. I’m a disciple of Master Roshi’s.” She gave Chi-Chi a polite, short bow.

Chi-Chi smiled at Kale. “You trained under Master Roshi? I didn’t know that he took disciples anymore.” Her dad had always said that he and his friend Gohan had been Master Roshi’s last disciples.

“He’s taken in Goku, Bulma, my ‘sis’ Caulifla, me, and our friend Launch.” Kale told Chi-Chi and Gyu-Mao at the same time.

“Don’t that beat all! Master has never taken so many disciples before!” Gyu-Mao said with a bright smile. “Please! Come inside and let’s talk! I’d love to hear about my new junior disciples!”

Chi-Chi gently took Kale’s hand with her own and led her towards the castle with a smile. “After receiving training from Master Roshi, you must be incredibly strong!”

Kale smiled and shook her head once, making her high ponytail sway a little. “I’m a little strong, but not the strongest. Yet.” She grinned at Chi-Chi, getting a giggling laughter from the other girl as they entered the castle.

Kale would end up staying all day, having dinner with Chi-Chi and Gyu-Mao as an ‘honored guest’ and surprised both of them with how much she could eat. Kale enjoyed hearing about Gyu-Mao and Gohan’s training from long ago, finding that Master Roshi’s regiment hadn’t changed much at all over the decades. Chi-Chi had asked a bunch of questions about the world, like where Kale was from, what she’d seen of the big city, and a host of other questions that the rural princess was curious about.

When night fell, Kale was happily snuggled up in a fluffy bed in a guest suite in the castle. Her last thought as she drifted off to sleep was wondering how Caulifla, Goku, Bulma, Launch, Krillin, Lunch, and Master Roshi were doing.

Caulifla and Kale have started their martial arts journeys! Their first destination is Korin Tower and they’ve settled on making it a race between them! One takes the route through the southern archipelago and up the western peninsula, while the other swims north to the mainland and works their way up the coast towards the Sacred Land of Korin!

On the way, Caulifla finds a fishing town in dire straits from a massive crab sea beast. But a promise of free food for helping sees Caulifla quickly slaying the giant crustacean and making IT food! Kek!

Kale travels across the mainland and reaches Frypan Mountain! Seeing the newly built castle and the rebuilt village compared to the stories from Goku and Bulma makes it clear that everything has returned to normal after Master Roshi blew the burning mountain away! She politely greets her senior disciple, Gyu-Mao, and spends the day talking with both him and Chi-Chi about Master Roshi and the other disciples! Kale is a very sweet girl!

We see that Krillin was wandering a bit aimlessly and found an old monk that was skilled in martial arts! A friendly spar reveals what a lifetime of martial arts study can lead to, even without a legendary Master like Roshi! Not to mention that Krillin has gotten his ‘basic ki blast’ down, even if it is still a little slow. During the sparring, however, the old monk offers Krillin an idea for a route around the world. Krillin will now be traveling, on foot, to all five of the major megalopolises of the world on his martial arts journey!

As the Turtle School disciples travel the world and allow life to teach them new things, just what will they learn, develop, and what other situations will they find themselves in over the next year or so?

Keep reading to find out!

Kek! Things will changed, indeed!

Kairomaru

I just realized something. Frieza is not going have a good time with this version of goku when the story gets tothat point. He is smarter and has much more control and skill than Canon goku. Not to mention he has to face not one or two sayians and a half saiyan but several. Not to mention a braver and stronger krillin. Rip frieza

Kadrym

Happy you enjoyed it! No hints! lol

Kairomaru

Absolutely love it... for the final member of the harem can we get a hint?

Kirito Beater

Glad you liked it, Kami! It's interesting the people one can meet while traveling around the world, huh? Like Bora, the Old Monk is very powerful compared to normal people (Power level of 80 compared to the average of 5), but also like Bora, has no desires 'to be the strongest' or anything like that. Kale and Caulifla's journeys have diverged as they split up and take different routes towards Korin Tower! Kale met the Ox king and Chi-Chi, while Caulifla saves a fishing town (by being a hungry Saiyan, lol). Yeah, Launch's martial arts journey will definitely be different. You can almost imagine her seeing a train rolling along and chasing after it with the intention of robbing it, only to stop and remind herself that she's not going to do that kind of stuff anymore. Kek!

Kairomaru

Nice chapter. I enjoyed Krillin’s scene with the old master, and Goku and the girls are just as adorable as always. It’ll be interesting to see how Kale and Kaulifa’s training journeys continue as well. And Launch when we get to hers, presumably in the next chapter, maybe two if the next one has other stuff instead.

Kaminoryu

Glad you enjoy it so much! Yes! Crab and lobster is delicious when properly cooked! Get that butter sauce!

Kairomaru

Great chapter, always happy to see this story get love. I swear, every time I read someone eating some crab it makes me crave some. Crab cooked right is downright mouthwatering.

Nuka Man

You're welcome! Yes, there will indeed be more chapters like this one where we see the travels and trials of the Turtle School disciples on their martial arts journeys. I'm glad you enjoy them! Tail training is happening and will be shown from time to time as the Saiyans progress with it. No worries there. Oozaru training, however, is something that they might need to see an example of first before they understand the possibility of such a thing. I'm glad that someone noticed Kale's thoughts about the Kamehameha. It's almost like that while the Saiyans (and Krillin) have learned it through watching and then trial and error, they don't have all of the DECADES of experience with the technique that Roshi does as the creator. I'm happy that you like this story so much and that it keeps you interested in the Series!

Kairomaru

Much like the manga, she disappears as a character, but in my version, without any promise to marry Goku, she has no reason to leave her homeland.

Kairomaru

Well, that'll be MUCH later on, in the time of Dragon Ball Z.

Kairomaru

Fingers crosses Chi Chi doesn't become a soccer Karen in the future. XD

Tristan McKenzie O'Meara

Thanks for the chapter! Will there be more chapters like this one, showing Goku and the others learning, creating, or perfecting new techniques? I have to admit, I really enjoy it. Also, don't forget the tail training and later the Oozaru training. And as Kale already guessed, they're not getting the most out of the Kamehameha. Seriously, thank you. This is one of the Dragon Ball stories that keeps me interested in the series.

savitar

I for one would like a little Interlude from the prospective of Vageta on how all these changes do or don't effect him.

Thomas Jones

Damn it... I'll fix it later, it's late and I'm going to bed.

Kairomaru

“He’s taken in Goku, Bulma, my ‘sis’ Caulifla, me, and our friend Launch.” Kale told Chi-Chi and Gyu-Mao at the same time. RIP Krillin, you've been forgotten
