What'd y'all think of discord?
Added 2025-06-06 06:26:24 +0000 UTCA Destined Journey starting on royal road has brought an influx of new patrons, but not an awful lot of new discorders. I'm wondering what the split is between people who don't join discord because they aren't interested, and those who don't join because they don't want to link their discord and patreon accounts together. (I suspect it's largely the former, given that not many people who do join do much talking, and are probably only there because they haven't clicked the button to stop patreon autojoining servers.)
Now that cathfach.co.uk has facilities to hold NSFW chapters, there's nothing private left on discord as such, so for people who don't want to link accounts, I'm considering providing an open invite link and a means of self-certifying that you want access to patreon channels. (The existing patreon roles will remain, too.) But I'm not going to bother mucking around in there if no-one is going to use it.

You get into the discord by linking patreon and discord and claiming your subscriber discord benefits. That adds you to the server and gives you the appropriate role/access to the appropriate channels. When you leave patreon, you remain in the discord server unless you manually leave, but lose the role/patreon channels. The proposal is that on top of that system, I give out an invite link, and unlock the patreon channels from the roles controlled by the patreon integration.
