> "Any item capable of storing a soul is illegal, whether occupied or not," he answered. > "Very illegal," added the paladin captain. "Levels of illegal that would result in summary execution by any inquisitor who saw you with it, in fact. So I'm sorry, but as helpful as it would be for you to take it back for us, I can't let you. Proper procedure must be followed. A proper guard, with official sanction for handling such materials, will return it to the cathedral as soon as we have located it. The Light will repair your soul, and then the offending item will be destroyed." > Amy prided herself on her optimism and an ability to find a glimmer of hope in any situation, but here she was seriously at a loss. Her hope had been that she could trick the guards into handing over her magical girl powers, find some way of restoring them herself, and then use them to ditch Alexander and escape the city. Alas, it seemed that no phase of that plan would be possible. Despair bubbled up inside her that was no less all-encompassing than what she'd felt when she'd first realised she was stuck in this world, or when she was helplessly strapped to the necromancer's operating table. Oof. > Thankfully, she'd never mentioned that the Faceless had put a bounty out on her, else he'd never have agreed to leave her alone. Now she just needed to take advantage of Alexander leaving her alone to slip away and find Harold. That would be tough, given the size of the city, but he must have expected that she'd come looking. He would have left hints somewhere. > When they reached the cafe and she spotted him on the other side of the road, nonchalantly reading a newspaper, she couldn't help but feel that things were suddenly going suspiciously well. Hmmm... And the shards from the exploding machine just "happened" to kill the necromancer earlier, too. Suspiciously well, indeed.
