The self flagellation was seen as a way to imitate Christ's suffering and supposedly bring one closer to god. Also, I think this is the quietest you have ever been in a movie reaction, your face the whole time was glued to the screen 😅

I always loved both, the book is amazing, I finished it in one night when it came out in theaters. Yes you were right that Silas was played by Paul Betteny who played Vision. But that wasn't Richard Harris who played the villain, it was Sir Ian McKellen, who played Gandalph (sp?) in The Lord of the Rings. Excellent movie and reaction as usual.
