Just looking at these two images, I'm thinking you might want to add some additional ambient lighting (via additional discrete lighting sources out of view of the camera) so as to reduce the contrast gradient of light to dark in the shadows and allow us to appreciate the foreground and the background both a bit more. Really interesting touch of making the elf girl's green eyes glow green in shadow there.
