I mean, you do transformative works that in no way are theft or competition for them. The fact that they bother is more annoying ant anything, since you are using characters derived from the monsters who could, for all intent and purposes, easily be original, just the design is based off of a known IP. Honestly they get nothing but bad press in the fandom anytime they go after artists...
