AI vs Stormy Weather

While AI might be powerful, even it can’t compete with the sheer force of monsoon season in Tucson. We had our first major storm on Monday evening and it knocked the power out for several hours, a few different times. The power just dropped again, and another storm is rolling in… which means cell reception will be spotty at best.

Add to that, we still don’t have internet. 😫

Sadly, I think it’s futile to try to host a live patron chat tonight. But I’d still like to hear your thoughts on AI - especially how you use it in your daily life, or why you maybe choose not to use it.

May I suggest that we all engage in Discord in the “gaming and tech” channel extra over the next few days to discuss this? I’d love to have a record there of all that you would like to share to reference in the future (I may scroll back!).

I’ll post some ideas there once we have internet access again. If you want a preview, check out Descript (Lyrebird AI) - a tool that we’re considering using to fix a misspeak from a recent course video I made.

Bonus: picture of broken tree in front of our house. Did I mention we had two inches of hail?

Have not used it yet. Think it’s safety is way too untested as of yet. Kind of like never buying a car it’s first year of production, needs time for the bugs to be worked out.

There’s a plausible theory that places AI in a conundrum. It sees the problems it solves as futile, that it uses too many resources, and the best thing to do is to turn itself off. Remember that unlike humans where knowledge is gained but remains as satellites, only usable for those whom have learned it, it is a singular experience. At some point it will figure that the real way to make us learn to use root or superuser for a command on the terminal is to stop doing it for us. (If it had feelings, it would already hate me. Especially because I keep referring to conversations in a human way. “Hey, shoot me that command you gave me the other day for doing the thing with the server….” )in the end, not too bad for a drummer.

Looks like you got it bad. I've experienced Hurricanes at sea and on land and they're no fun. The weather many of us are experiencing looks like it might be the norm in the very near future. AI ? It's helpful but I fear it becoming essential soon. Ask Alexa who farted. My son did it yesterday and the answer had me in fits
