"Masterclass" Discussion with Julia Nilon TOMORROW

Hello lovelies!

First - thank you to all of you who joined us at the 1M party today! You are such a wonderful community. I'm incredibly grateful to you all.

As was revealed (and hinted at before), Julia Nilon is currently visiting us in Arizona. Tomorrow, we'd like to hop on a zoom with those who can join to discuss contemporary vs. classical singing. This would take the place of our August Masterclass, as I'm not currently teaching.

We'd love to gather vocal technique specific questions before, and we'll also take them during the class. Also, this WILL be recorded and shared afterwards. :-) Please feel free to start posting questions in response to this message!

Here are the deets:

What: Masterclass discussion on contemporary vs classical singing technique

When: Sunday, August 28 at 12:00 Noon AZ time

Gah, these are such great questions but I didn't see them before we did the stream. Here are a few answers: 1) I think we'd both agree that daily vocal exercise should always contain SOVTs. Then we vary depending on style and what you're currently preparing. 2) I was often singing 3-4 hours per day full-out, or on bigger days more but with a break afterwards. It was difficult to sustain and required monitoring my speaking outside of singing a lot. Not sure about Julia! 3) Whoah - so much to digest in there! That's a novel in itself. For me, my vocal range expanded lower a lot in the last few years, which was a goal but also a surprise. 4) Quality vocal practice is always better. Keeping it consistent, even for a small amount each day, is much better than 1-2 days of a ton of practice.

Couldn't join live due to an Event, but I'm SO looking forward on the recording!

What should a 15-30 min daily vocal exercise include according to you both? About time and effort, how many hours a day did you sing when you were at your "highest" level in for example classical singing, and how did you keep it sustainable? How do you feel your voices are developing over time, are there any surprises? What's your opinion on quantity vs quality when it comes to vocal practise? I might be able to join live, otherwise I'm looking forward to watching the recording!
