(UPDATE) Hatsune Miku's Desperation Act Motion Comic

Something special is happening with this Miku project.

When I was commissioned to write a Hatsune Miku-themed audio all the way back in February, I thought little of it. I felt it was one of my better scripts but otherwise it was just another audio I intended to turn around in a week and move on from. But the response the script gets from everyone whose read it has led to it growing bigger and bigger.

This is the story of how a bunch of people who don't like scat pushed me to make the best scat porn I could.

SHENNYCHWAN

Most voice actresses said no. No one wanted to be the girl who fucked up as Hatsune Miku. Those who didn't struggled with the desperation scene, which required them to sing while "holding."

I had run through everyone in my talent roster by that point... except the newest girl - ShennyChwan.

Like all other VAs, she didn't believe she could do it. But I had heard her act, and I had heard her sing. She was Miku, and I told her that much. Her response to the script was overwhelming. She spoke of it not like porn, but a genuine story.

I've never been commissioned to do a project that is truly so fun, and so deeply within my interests. Like, come on! I'm commissioned to voice this diva and sing iconic Miku songs? I basically have Miku to thank for me getting into voice acting. Without knowing what Vocaloid was, I wouldn't have gotten my first mic to sing covers. This is personal. I'm so, so hyped for this project, its unreal. This is such a wholesome story written with love.

Anyone worried that, despite her formidable singing and acting skills, she too can't pull off the desperate singing... Don't. She's recorded that sequence already, and it was absolutely perfect.

MARKKOO

I requested that she handle the mixing for the songs since I've never worked with music. Only... she doesn't mix her own music vocals. She works with a friend - a music engineer who has worked for Hololive and Nijisanji named markkoo (who has given me permission to credit him under his SFW alias). Upon realizing this, I told her not to worry about it: the last thing I wanted was for her to show him the script for scat porn.

...She did it anyway. And he loved it. Moreover, she wanted him on so much she offered to take a pay cut so I could afford his services if necessary (we agreed to split the cost).

He did say he was very "iffy" of the type of fetish content in the beginning. But after he read through the whole script, he said his eyes were opened and his worldview expanded in the best way. He was really in support of Miku the whole time and wanted the best for her, that the whole storyline was so stressful in the right parts, and wholly satisfying in the end and he could tell how much this script was filled with love AND LOVES EVERY SINGLE SONG CHOICE. He said Melt as the final song would make him hyped like no tomorrow and it eats hard.

BUTTON NO BUTTON (NEE PAL)

My good friend, who I've called Pal for the last several months, is an artist I've known since 2021 - A kink-friendly and skilled painter whose personal life has stunted his art career.

Moving forward, Pal would like to be called Button no Button as he works to get more involved in scat/gas art (as he puts it, the act of undoing a woman's skirt). I will call him Button for short.

His perfectionist tendencies are worse than my own, but the results are undeniable. (The watermarks are from an old alias, which I won't disclose)

I asked him to do a thumbnail for the Miku audio, and when he read the script, something possessed him. A week later, with no updates on the art, I asked him to see a WIP.

"Okay, so I did the shit I always do, and ended up doing mad shit. I made Webtoon formatted comic for the first third of the script. It’s pretty much shot for shot of what you wrote for the first 3 pages."

It's not uncommon for me to make a small ask and for him to overdeliver. He wanted to draw the whole story out. I said "fine" and allowed him to work at his own pace. He's worked on-and-off, with stops in production (finding VAs or focusing on other projects) allowing him to take on commissions, as well as navigate his difficult life at home. As I have said in the past, it's not my story to tell. But I will have to divulge some aspects in this post.

Earlier this month, I did an art drive to help expand the story to feature more of the concert. It was meant to be a simple sequence - pngs, over a parallax scrolling background depicting passage of time. The drive had Patrons donate money to pick different outfits and poses for Miku to fart in... He had other plans.

Me: Do you intend to do this many panels for the other outfits?

Button: At least 2 I think. I'd like to have transitional scenes of her stepping into other outfits. Maybe Luka helping her change (real quick).

I tried to make it easy for him. He didn't want it to be easy. He wanted it to be great.

As a show of confidence, I asked for at least one panel from the art drive to be fully rendered once it closed. He spent the past 10 days on it, studying fart art and scat art to learn what people like making tweaks here and there. Earlier this week, the power went off in his shared apartment. His mother (who I will respectfully call "unwell"), hadn't paid their electricity for 6 months, without telling anyone. Their debt amounted to $6,000, and the company requested a minimum of $800 to turn the lights back on. I've loaned a lot this month, but I still had that much, and I was able to get his power back. Don't worry, I paid for next month's content in advance, and have commissions to fill in the blanks. But I will need to carve out more for him to pay back the bill, but he's agreed to be more involved with HRA. I'm also seeking commissions for him. All that is to say, that's why I wasn't able to update you on the drive until now.

Still, he completed the still I asked for.

It's an undeniably gorgeous piece, but an unsustainable level of quality for a comic with over 100 panels, as is his goal. We'll be discussing logistics and how polished we want the finished product to be. The current comic is still in grey-scale and being rendered, though some of it has temporary assets so I'm limited in what I can show. For fun, I asked him to speedpaint some of the process, but the final piece differs a fair bit from the speedpaint and is incomplete since he only remembered to record the first day. I will upload that separately since I can't include it as an attachment under the audio.

So, how long will this take?

I don't know. I wanted it done by the end of the month. But in addition to the usual snags (shenny's schedule, Button's home life), we were slowed down by passion. It's now my job to find a reasonable amount of speed for it to be completed while giving everyone the space they need to do their best work.

And I am not blameless in this. My connection to Vocaloid has been a deep part of my personal identity since I first heard Miracle Paint in 2008. If I was gonna throw my full weight on any project, it's this one.

Seeing the response to the project as a story, I made a few additions to round out the plot and give it more of an underlying theme: It's the story of a diva who gives too much of herself to her audience, putting her needs aside to perform for them. She's bullied into submission by "Master" (an old Vocaloid fan character meant to represent the software owner), who plays more of a calloused villain role courtesy of my dear friend Karnal DeViation. The character was meant to be a comedic extra - a frustrated female stagehand who was too oblivious to notice Miku's desperation, but Button drew them as a sinister, imposing man with an icy glare. If he is the devil on her shoulder, MacStarVA is the angel - Megurine Luka, who builds her back up when the concert goes wrong. As such, a small scene between the two of them got added to ensure that our villain doesn't go without consequence. Because if three people without any interest in scat porn could be invested in the story? I have to assume that you will too.

I never set out to make anything special. But the people around me seemed to think it is. So we'll make something special, at least this once. I hope you will allow us the time we need to deliver. There will be plenty of other pieces to enjoy in the interim.
