IMPORTANT:: Please, read!!
Added 2020-05-29 00:18:26 +0000 UTCStarting July 1st, Patreon is making some patrons pay sales tax.
So, what does this mean for you?
Whether or not you will be charged depends on your location, and what is considered taxable there. TBH, I've been reading about all this for like an hour and I'm still a bit confused. According to Patreon:
"Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents. "
I don't yet know how I would go about calculating costs for my international patrons yet since I haven't received the "sales tax" tab Patreon informs me should be there. But for my fellow Americans, most of my rewards should be exempt from taxes in MOST states. I'm currently fiddling with my tiers to make sure you are being charged the right amount (if you are charged at all) and not a single cent more. I must report on discounts given, rewards received, and behind-the-scenes content, early access to images.. among other things.
They will be sending y'all an e-mail about all this very soon if you are impacted by this change. I wanted to make sure you heard it from me first!!
Thanks for reading.
