I remember back in the early 50s my grandma helping the “hobos” who hung out near the tracks behind her home. She told me she’d been doing that since the early 20s. Sometimes they would rake the yard or repair the wooden fence…just for a meal and kindness. On the fence near the house was a tree with a V symbol. In the world of Hobos that meant okay here…charity given freely. Many famous people lived the Hobo way for a time. Look it up in Wiki.
