LACKADAISY - Storyboard Animatic + Script

Hello all!
In case you're morbidly curious about how the sausage gets made, here's the full animatic of the LACKADAISY Pilot. Also attached here are the screenplay and transcript.

I haven't delivered the HD download of the film yet because I'm still looking for a large file hosting solution that'll make that possible. (It's too big to upload to Patreon.)

-------------------

The Animatic - this is the storyboard art arranged and timed to be representative of the intended film. It's also synced to the scratch audio for voices.

This is what gets passed along to animators, background artists, sound designers and others so that they have a very clear guideline for doing the art that comprises the final film.

Fable Siegel, Kelly Turnbull, Kevin Slawinski and Ashley Green were the board artists who worked on this. Zachary "Newt" Nall made all of the 3d layout models. You can also see some of my drawings popping in at times too, as I asked for some pretty specific acting and expressions during the board revision process.

------------------

The Script - in the attachment you'll find a version of the screenplay cleaned up for readability and the messy but more honest version of what the screenplay actually looks like as a production is in progress. This was being edited in real-time while we did the voice recording sessions with the actors. It's a little different from the end product in multiple places because we made minor timing changes, cut some lines out, altered how a scene played out, and recorded pick-ups at various points in production.

Also included is the transcript of what's actually in the final pilot.
(Thanks to Clint Pereira for transcribing.)

Alternatively, you could opt for Cloudflare Stream or Mux Video as a way to upload HD video and lock this content behind authentication or password protection. This could also potentially be integrated into your site so everything is in one place. From the users perspective, they could log in with their Patreon account, and as long as they are an active subscriber, would have access to that video on the site in it's HD glory!

Hi Tracy - absolutely loved the pilot! You have an amazing team and story here, looking forward to more! In regards to file storage, perhaps you could opt for a more custom solution? Perhaps using something like Cloudflare's R2 Storage service. There are other providers like Backblaze, but Cloudflare's R2 service is fantastic due to it's zero egress fees! Combine this with Cloudflare's CDN and you would be able to serve content globally with very little effort, and for much cheaper than other traditional providers like Dropbox etc.

I have - we used it rather extensively (along with Dropbox) for file delivery during production, since everyone was working remotely. We have to provide the HD video both for Patrons and Kickstarter backers, though. That's potentially thousands of downloads within a short timeframe, and from what I could gather, both WeTransfer and Dropbox would consider this kind of use of their service to be abuse. We are looking at Itch.io instead right now as a possibility, since that is designed for broader audience downloads of games and other things, not just file exchange among smaller work groups. In any case, thank you very much for the suggestion!

I'm wondering if you could use Vimeo? It's been a long time but there were a few projects I got from other places that uploaded their movie length videos there and then I accessed them via a password and was able to download a copy. Dunno if it still works that way though.

This may be irrelevant now but have you heard of WeTransfer? I used it for a while when I was doing freelance and had to send large frame sequences. The default and the way we used it by sending emails to our recipients directly and individually which is impractical for this purpose but it also gives you the option to just use a shareable link. You can transfer 200GB files on a 12$ a month subscription and you can transfer unlimited size files on a 23$ a month subscription.

its so nice to hear a couple more lines from zib, especially the ones kinda covered up by ivy in the finished pilot

Mordecai shoots in the animatic with one hand.In the pilot is uses two hands to keep it asymmnetrical :D

Arath

so cool to see all the little details and changes!

This is purely brilliant all around! Being able to see the behind the nitty gritty behind the scenes action really helps you appreciate just how unfathomably talented the whole cast is and how much time and effort went into it, I take my hat off to the Lackadaisy crew and similar creatives that make magic like this a reality!!

this is the first time ive gotten to seen what a grand animation project looks like behind the scenes in all its raw WIP-ness and i have to say it can only be described as MESMERIZING; thank u and the rest of the cast for all the work that went into this . its incredible <333

this is actually perfect because I was wondering what the storyboards looked like only a few days ago !!

It’s so cool hearing the unedited va recordings! I’m curious about what Zib was saying at the end, I think I heard “Something in 4/4 Mozzie? Sy?” But the rest was too quiet. Thanks for sharing!
