There's a thing in all of that, L was, in fact, sure about Light. This is why this last episode of him alive was his goodbyes, he could not do the last thing needed to prove that Light was kira. You can see this last episode and combine it with the 24, and see what he was on about when he touched the notebook, from that moment on he knew that the aoyama encounter (and he mentions it) was even more crucial as a proof, because now he could understand the hidden messages properly, what killed him was the fake rule that he was unable to doubt (as Light himself said).

Most of the orphanages here in Europe are typically affiliated with a church organization of some sort. So I guess he heard a lot of curch bells when he was growing up in the orphanage. Thats why he said maybe "it's a church, a wedding or perhaps...". Churches usually use the bells to announce a wedding or a death. Also, in some rural parts of Europe, churches use the bells when it's a very big storm "to chase the rainy clouds away" – that's what my grandma used to say when I was younger. They continue ringing them until the storm stops. Thats why he said on the rooftop that he hears the bell and "the sound of the bell is being unusually loud today" and "its been ringing nonstop all day". That or as I said above announcing a death

I noticed that in the end Ls eyes had more structure and looked more alive than before. Maybe because he knew in his last moment that he was right and that light is Kira. Usually L had empty black eyes. But not when he was lying in lights arms. The bell thing seemed intresting too. Maybe it was kinda trauma related or some sort of schizophrenic symptom because he said it would be stronger than usually. So I assume he can always hear the bells?
