The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 6 REACTION

Comments

"See you next year" when they wouldn't actually see each other again đŸ˜„đŸ˜„

Adam Stickley

I also love how Joel says "I'll pay the price." I'm sure in that moment he's assuming the price is that he loses Ellie for good, but then skip ahead to the next day when Abby is confronting him, I wonder if he's playing that conversation back in his head. Obviously he was worried about them hurting Dina, likely a big party of why he didn't try anything, but when Abby tells him why she is there, you can tell he is accepting it. He probably didn't expect to pay the price in such a violent way, but it's clear by the way that he reacts, that he know he deserves it, or at least understands and accepts why Abby is doing it. The really tragic part is he dies thinking Ellie is in danger.

Ellie's last comment. "I don't think I can forgive you for this, but I would like to try." We don't get to see if they exchange anymore words, this possibly could have been their final moment before she watched him get murdered. I think It's a great glimpse into why she wants revenge so badly. Joel and the fireflies robbed her of a choice. Ellie's face after Joel confesses he loves her, is one of deep conflict. She wants to be beyond pissed at him, but can't for the fact that, finding people who care about her that deeply is something she always wanted. Being an orphan, and likely with just that one friend, she didn't get much of that. She decides she wants to try and forgive him because it's kind of hard to say "I hate you for not letting me die." She decides she wants to work towards forgiving him, and we see it the next day where she is annoyed with jesse and says "Im gonna do my patrol with Joel." Joel gets murdered and once again Ellie is robbed of a choice. This man went through hell to protect her all these years and she watches him go out in this horrible way. It's tragic that she now sees her only way to make it up to joel is to avenge him.

in the podcast neil druckman said that they read a lot of post apocalypse stories and this was his favourite book and where they took a lot of inspiration from. the story about Ish (the guy who founded the underground shelter where they were with Henry and Sam) is actually directly inspired by it. that's why they took it as the book Gail is reading

Oh yeah nice catch with seth/dad!

The first thing I thought of when Joel was curious about the moths is how they’re instinctively attracted to light. I think it’s a call back to the fireflies slogan “When you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light”. I think they never really left the space in the back of her mind, so much that she draws about them, dreams about them, and her smile drops at the sight of real fireflies.

Something I don't think I've seen anyone mention is the transference of Joel's father onto Seth. Seth being a cop, and berating Ellie brought Joel back to how he would protect Tommy from their father. It's part of why he jumped to protect Ellie even though she didn't want it. I love what the show has done with the entire Gail/Eugene storyline. I don't know why but, Eugene telling Joel he needed Gail's last words for him, hit me really hard. I couldn't imagine being in his shoes... and then the way it all tied back to Joels lie about the fireflies was just so well done. I think this has got to be my favourite episode between both seasons.

Love this episode. Showing all the flashbacks (which in the game are spaced out (no pun intended)) in succession works really well for the show format. Also they replaced a flashback where Ellie does a solo trip to the abandoned hospital to find info about what really went down, and replaced it with the Eugene/Gail scene. Which I think is a rare improvement over the game. Doesn't make sense for Ellie to track to a different state on her own like she just quickly sneaks out the house at night, and having the Eugene scene as the kicker to make her certain he lied to her is really elegant writing. One thing I'm really surprised by and am curious to see how it affects the story overall is that the porch conversation originally isn't revealed until the VERY end of the game, but I'm sure they know what they're doing. Either way, that scene gets me every time 😭

The book Gail was reading, Earth Abides, is one of my favorite novels. It was published in the '40s, and it's a story about a virual pandemic that kills most of humanity. It follows a university student as he grapples with the end of civilization, forming a new community, and trying to pass on the ways of the old world to the next generation. It's rather "on the nose" for this TV show.

Oh nice spot.

When Joel's father put his hand on teenage Joel's shoulder - you could see THE watch on his father's wrist. It was an amazing episode. It had so much storytelling packed into it. I liked that Joel & Ellie had at least a bit of understanding and truth in their last moments together.

Flawless episode. They added so many layers to the characters, and the “I love you” moment—something I missed in the game—was finally brought to life. In the game, it was left between the lines, but here, he said it out loud, and it was absolutely beautiful.

Carol Grein Ericson

Side note this episode was perfect . In my sole opinion.
