2025-05-09 13:59:26 +0000 UTCIssac & the Seraphite was the first moment I thought "the game creator & exec producer is an Israeli-American" - I think the cycles of violence and retaliation in the game/show may be his reflection on the conflict(s) in the middle east (and it turns out Druckman did make that connection in an interview). I think some of my favorite acting in this show was the change of emotions that Joel exhibits at the end of his session with Gail - the shift from being open, filled with remorse to burying those feelings under anger - and then the music shop serenade. You can literally see Dina move from loving, to being IN-LOVE as she looks up at Ellie. Isabela's face changes and her eyes glow & then tear up - really fantastic acting. I do think a beat before they consummate their attraction would have helped, but having been an HBO'er for many years, I know how tight budgets & available episodic run-time can be - and having come very very close to dying in a former life, that impulse can be pretty darn strong after such a near-death experience. The relief, the endorphins and noradreniline that course through you can drive some pretty powerful impulses.

2025-05-08 07:00:48 +0000 UTCI started crying when you mentioned how horrible it is to see how Bella is being treated online. I think about it sometimes when watching the show too and I feel awful for her. Bella is soooo talented but she’s a good person too. She even insisted on a green rider in her contract with HBO to make the sets and overall production of the show environmentally friendly. It hurts me knowing people can treat such a kind young person that way.

2025-05-07 20:17:38 +0000 UTCi was so scared they were axing dina/ellie actually getting together in the show, because in the game they get officially together b4 joel even dies. so this episode was amazing, and made me rly happy, as a queer woman.

2025-05-07 16:00:42 +0000 UTCLoved this episode. Tv station and metro set piece felt exactly like the game. Got my heartrate up even tho I knew exactly what was happening. Mark of exceptional filmmaking imho. I expected a big Abby episode but I guess Isaac is close enough. This was like a supercut of "Day One" in the game, so the episode name is quite fitting. I think things did get moved along. We learned about wolves and seraphites. We had first contact with wolves. We had a two BIG reveals between Ellie and Dina AND their relationship reached a new level. And we have a concrete lead on Abby. :) In the game it took hours to get here lol Much more exploration and combat naturally. I wish I could comment on your predictions but I wanna avoid any and all spoilers lol

2025-05-07 15:36:22 +0000 UTCOne observation I'm not sure you picked up on, in the beginning when they noticed the rainbow flags and the lgbt pride mural. Ellie and Dina are completely oblivious to that culture despite being gay and bisexual. It's interesting how they portray the death of culture in the apocalypse, how things that would be important to someone can lose all meaning. I know you like to blame HBO (in jest ofcourse) but remember, this all happened in the game 5 years ago, and while they are making changes for sure, this episode for example was pretty close to how Day 1 in Seattle goes in the game as well. All the way to them finding the disemboweled bodies and escaping the WLF, only to have to deal with both the WLF and Infected in the subway, Dina finding out Ellie is immune and them ending up in that abandoned movie theater. It was pretty cool to see it all realized in live action. (even the capitol hill/pride flags downtown area was in the game) I really appreciated you commenting on how cruel a certain group online are being to Bella Ramsey. I think she's absolutely killing it and doing such a good job.
