Well, I had NO idea how to get this stupid hair right. What you can see here is the more or less finished model (without rig) with my first attempts to make my character fluffy. She looks like a weird stuffed animal.
Two tips for people who are interested in fur simulations:
– Always use several particle systems for different hair types; I separated head and body for instance and added additional settings for her tail and all puffy parts.
– Vertex Groups! Man, I’ve been spending a long time in the Weight Paint mode. You can tell Blender how long the hair shall be in different areas (or have it exclude the hair at all). I created a mask to totally remove any fur under her clothing for instance.
