The deep friendship in the end was worth it. And yes the bromance, although sad. The main lead was very handsome and him with white hair? Gorgeous.

2025-02-03 14:20:43 +0000 UTCYou remembered correctly that General Qiu was a slave. As for whether he has a father/father figure, it will be revealed in future episodes. Just wanted to give kudos here to Ding Yuxi’s brilliant acting. Notice his body language (subtle tells) during his sit-down convo with Qiu - chin on clasped hands and upward gaze, lazy leaning of cheek on fist, brushing of lips with his finger, slow drawing of circles on table… Solid. Why did he say he broke his promise without any qualms? Cos he knew he could get away with it lol. Qiu has always shown that he is a cut to the chase person with no patience and time to spare for niceties. But he knew that Li Bing was buying time and yet he played along patiently and willingly. Why so? That lovely song at the end of the episode refers to more than Sun Bao and Xu Hu’s relationship. Also, the money pouch is a parallel to something else that will be revealed later.

2024-09-17 22:27:45 +0000 UTCRe: Episode 16: The video stops working about 1/3 of the way in after an add set and boots you to your next videos in line, so I couldn't finish it. PS: If the new show you are talking about is Melody of Golden Age, I have been watching it up to the current episode, 37, and it is very good so far (except for the ridiculous Chinese habit of long, lingering glances and rub-their-thoughts-in-your-face musical interludes in their straight romance-oriented period pieces). It took me only a few minutes to shake off the White Cat vibes since the actor does a really good job of playing a very different character.

2024-09-17 16:46:58 +0000 UTCApologies Jeanet for the lateness in commenting, still catching up... A few points re ep 11 : 1. The blood on the diary is Li Bing's, not his dad's -- the diary was with him when he was fatally stabbed. 2. The slave release document is important to General Qiu indeed, so important that he did not look at all happy receiving it, did not open it up to ascertain that it was properly endorsed and just immediately set it aside. Even Li Bing noticed it and found it somewhat odd. 3. The pages of the diary shown (unfortunately the translations did not capture the full essence of the writings), the very last entry written 3 years ago was given a longer focus for a reason, and will be played out further in later episodes. The translation for this entry should be friend (singular) and not friends. An interesting point to note here is that based on the spacing of the Chinese characters written on the page, the character "不“ (meaning "did not" when added in the phrase) was obviously not part of the original writing; it was added in separately. Very telling of Li Bing's emotions and what he was hoping for at the point in time, in relation to the "friend" that was important enough for him to pen down in his diary (and not just in this one entry).

2024-09-02 08:51:40 +0000 UTCposted too fast, cont’d from above - as for Qiu, note his expressions when he was interacting with Li Bing in the jail (love that scene), as compared to the cold face he gives to Shangguan Qin, and anyone else for that matter. He was having fun “playing with/poking the cat”, as Chinese viewers put it. Ep 10 gave a hint of why Qiu dislikes Shangguan Qin’s father. This is an important point to note. As for what Qiu said to Li Bing abt Bing and his dad not releasing him from slavehood after he came back from the war, and him apparently grudging them for that… hmm… I can only say yet again, don’t take things at face value with Qiu. Watch him carefully in the next episode when he interacts with Bing further on this matter (think this should not count as a spoiler, I hope?). Lastly, Qiu was indeed really mad that Bing got injured, thus his direct aims at YZH with those arrows (plus another reason which you will find out v soon). End of blabber!

2024-08-01 19:50:47 +0000 UTCHeya, hope everything’s going smoothly for you since the last we comms-ed and your subsequent update. Thanks for continuing to react to WCL even with your hands full. Hang in there! Took much longer for me to watch the last 2 eps since for some reason, daily motion decided that it wanted to feed me 2 ads literally every 3-4 mins. Drove me nuts. So bear with me for the gibberish-ness that follows. First, the names. Yi Zhi Hua literally translated means a stalk of flower. He gave the jailer his name backwards. The Bing in Li Bing means biscuit. Which what was he fed the little General Qiu at their first mtg lol. We can see that Li Bing cares a lot about Qiu as even in the midst of being bashed up by YZH, Qiu was still v much on his mind - he didn’t miss the opportunity to find out if YZH had a hold on Qiu.

2024-08-01 19:38:53 +0000 UTCThanks for the ep7 re. Just 2 things: 1. Both Li Bing and Shangguan are Vice-Ministers of the Judicial Review, no difference in rank/seniority, just taking charge of different areas/functions 2. Li Bing looked at his chest area after drinking the breakfast soup not because of “heart fluttery” BL feels — his action is a continuation of him feeling his chest for wounds after jolting awake from the nightmare, evident from the serious/grave look he had right after looking at his chest area. Glad that you are enjoying the drama. Cheers.

2024-07-09 16:06:22 +0000 UTCHmm it really looks like I’m talking to myself here, what with no one else commenting/reacting… Anyways, glad that you enjoyed ep 6, one of my fav eps. To address some of your qns/comments: - the old men in black robes, we don’t recognise them either; the killer who led the massacre of Li Bing’s whole family and who also killed Li Bing is not one of the old men shown (stopping at this point cos spoiler otherwise) - the crest on dead Minister’s sleeve is not the same as the crest in the judicial review’s flares, else Li Bing would have recognised it; Li Bing’s dad purposely made sure Li Bing would take some time finding the flare on the night of attack - the seal was indeed handed to Li Bing by his dad at point of death; Li Bing fibbed when he told the empress that he found it in his dad’s coffin after reaching his ancestral grounds, cos no reason for him not to return the seal immediately if he had gotten hold of it while still in Shendu - Li Bing’s hair turned white overnight due to grief like he said (not a new trope in Chinese gongfu shows) and also cos his health was already failing then (think you might have missed him coughing out blood as you were talking to the camera at that point) - Li Bing’s first private mtg with General Qiu after a “long time”, it’s obvious that he was not his usual composed self and harbouring some anger/resentment towards Qiu (as above, think you might have also missed the interesting look on his face as he whipped around upon hearing of Qiu’s arrival) — why is Qiu able to rather easily affect Li Bing’s emotions/make him lose composure? As for whether Qiu would make the connection btwn cat and Li Bing at some point, can’t comment without spoiling, you’ll find out in due course lol Am sure not all your queries/comments were covered, but this is already like a lengthy thesis😅 Looking forward to your ep 7 re!

2024-07-02 19:23:04 +0000 UTCThe episode does fly by, doesn’t it? Two things abt General Qiu in the balloon scene: 1. His arrow was originally aimed at Li Bing, but he shifted his target before releasing the arrow; 2. He very subtly let out a sigh of relief when he saw Li Bing get up onto the edge of the basket (a purposeful inclusion of his reaction shot as the scene played out). And as you had noticed, he did not out Li Bing when the Minister asked if anybody else knew of the case. When Li Bing tried to get the coachman to come forth and it didn’t seem like it was working and he was at a loss as to what to do next, he turned to look at Qiu before looking away quickly. Anyways, enjoy their upcoming interactions which are loaded and interesting. Lastly, Li Bing’s hairpin in this episode is in the shape of a cat’s paw lol.

2024-06-25 19:16:28 +0000 UTCNot sure why I was expecting 2 ep reactions today… So it’d be one ep every Tues yes? Enjoyed your reaction to ep 3 as usual, and glad that you picked up from General Qiu’s reaction that “he cares”. If you scrutinise Qiu’s facial expression as he looked across the bridge, you might be able to catch the subtle change which hints at why he gave in rather easily to Shi’s request that they leave. The expression in Bing’s eyes (lovely peepers) as he watched Qiu leaving also contradicts what he said. And this kinda sets the tone for most of their scenes together (sadly, not many), so heads up to look beyond the surface whenever these 2 interact. Looking forward to the next ep reaction!

2024-06-11 17:40:38 +0000 UTCOooh, I haven't finished this show yet, so I will watch along with you, probably. :D The guy you seem to recognize, General Qiu, was Beiyuan (the prince with the shaman husband) in Word of Honor, I think ^.^

2024-06-06 20:40:11 +0000 UTCI was ecstatic when I saw this masterpost pop up, so happy that you are reacting to this show, which has become one of my fav Cdramas. Ryan Ding Yu Xi, who plays the main character (white cat Li Bing), picked up many new fans with his lovely display of acting range in this series. He uses his own voice btw, and the tonality and articulation is top-notched. You'd also be treated to one of the most beautiful, pure and touching relationships ever shown in a period drama (no, I am -not- referring to the hard-sold CP of Li Bing and Chen Shi that some viewers get but many others don't). Lastly, the opening song is rather well-done and does not contain significant spoilers, so you might wanna consider reacting to it at some point. Anyways, nuff said for now. Enjoy the show!
