Im crying so much😭😭😭

EP40 My feelings after watching this episode are no different from yours. I don't know if the following will make you feel any better. It's the ending of the original novel. Some say it's crueler than the series, some say it's better. For me personally, it's better than the series because I like clarity. I wouldn't say I like being left with false hopes that make me endlessly anxious. If the main character is going to die, then let them die visibly. If they're going to survive, then let them survive visibly. The ending in the novel starts similarly to the series: when the appointment day arrives, Li Xiangyi doesn't show up. But there's more content afterward. In the end, Fang Duobing finds Li Lianhua, but by then, he's no longer the same. His eyesight is poor, his right arm can't move much, and he can only use his left arm. He doesn't remember the past, and he doesn't recognize Fang Duobing, often calling him by the wrong names, sometimes even calling him Xiao Zijin. At that time, Fang Duobing had already married the princess but often visited Li Lianhua to take care of him. Seeing Li Lianhua in this state was painful for Fang Duobing, but he tried to stay positive, thinking at least Li Lianhua was alive. At least the present Li Lianhua was happy every day, free from past pains and sufferings. Li Lianhua would slowly find his way to the backyard garden by the sea. There, a tall figure in blue stood waiting. That person was Di Feisheng. A chessboard was drawn on the sand. Li Lianhua smiled and asked, 'Have you finished your move for the 136th piece?' Di Feisheng turned around, and after a while, he answered, 'I lost.' Li Lianhua was delighted and quickly extended his hand, 'One silver coin!' Di Feisheng tossed him the money and asked, 'Do you really not remember who I am?' Li Lianhua replied, 'I remember.' Di Feisheng felt shaky with expectation and asked, 'I am...?' Li Lianhua replied earnestly, 'You are a rich man.'

Alice K.

I totally understand his decision to go off and die alone. A deathbed surrounded by loved ones is fine in principle, but in practice, having loved ones watch through a lingering death can leave them remembering the death emblazoned on their minds, a shadow on all the good memories for years to come. And how bad for the dying person to see their loved ones in misery and pain, trying to hide it, and for the dying person to know that they were the cause of that grief as a final legacy. Sparing himself that pain and that indignity (for death is rarely dignified) was the last thing he could do for himself, and in his own mind, at least, for them. Although sometimes it is just a trope, I think these writers (and others) know when that is the passing that their characters would choose.

Mark Lesney

You gotta watch the extra as soon as possible. THEN you can have fix-it fics. Also DFS saying "No one can replace you in our promise" like a goddamn wedding vow.

JessiML

P.S.: As for fix-it fics, there is a series called "Lotus Tower" which is pretty R-rated but hilariously the cure is in dual cultivating. :)

Astrid1313

I look at the open ending of the show as carte blanche to envision my own ending. He lived on for a bit longer, they hunted him down and there is basically a Season 2 in my head where they are trying all kinds of cures on him and he is forever trying to escape but in the end he accepts living and is cured. Nothing in the show said that can`t happen.

Astrid1313

Episode 40... Yeah, Fox Spirit made me bawl like mad. And YES! Watch the extra as fast as you can like others have said. ❀️

Lilah Kane

Note: there's a 5 min extra special after episode 40. And cctv 8 aired a slightly different version of the extra ending which is tagged to the last episode. You might want to find both.

daydreamingcat

Episode 39: Honestly this is the first episode i have nothing to say for, except that halfway through the episode i realized exactly how this show would end - but I'll save my words for the last episode! If you already filmed Episode 40 and etc. you can ignore this lol: You REALLY NEED to WATCH the EXTRA RIGHT AFTER EP 40, it's not just any extra it's a special Episode and belongs to the ending (seariously, think like Word of Honor EP 37 kind of special episode, without it the story is not complete)!

Corvins.art

Episode 39: Shan Gudao died from a Qi deviation (衰火ε…₯ι”), where all his meridians in his body exploded & killed him. In wuxia, it happens when a cultivator over exerts himself or is too obsessed with something.

daydreamingcat

Episode 39, it all comes down to: A-Fei's face: "I fell in love to a princess." or prince at this case. The realization. 🀭 πŸ˜†

Lilah Kane

Here we are! Ep38 is my favorite episode as Dihua Shipper. I was a fan of the novel before I knew it was later turned into a series. In the novels, DFS doesn't play as many roles as in the series. He appears in volumes 1 and 6, the final volume. But I've been shipping away at this pair since the novel. I really appreciate the series adding a role to DFS because he is my favorite character. The wedding room scene was very well done, although I low-key regretted that many things were missing. In the novel, they bathe together in a hot spring. DFS is dreamy, thinking back to when he met LXY a long time ago. He remembers that year in Yangzhou, LXY played chess with a wise man. He lost in one turn and had to write a poem. The result was this. LXY lost 36 games in a row, so a long poem was written on the wall. DFS was not wearing clothing when he came out of the water to drink and eat with LLH. LLH complains that he is a savage but DFS doesn't care, haha. There was the part where they searched for things in the room. LLH found a pile of letters but his eyesight was bad. Soon can see, soon can't see. DFS looked into his eyes and asked, "Can't you see?" LLH then tells him he can't see well, so DFS doesn't have to worry about not wearing clothes in front of him. Suddenly LLH heard DFS read the letter. He read them one by one to LLH. When reading the novel, I really liked this scene. In fact, it was just a small act of kindness, but because it was DFS, it made me feel very warm. Like you know, someone like him did something like this was not normal at all. However, the series did a great job for the whole series. I didn't complain about anything. Just the moon scene still survives and I'm very happy.

Alice K.

Episode 37 and 38: You finally watched everyones favourite episode! Them drinking wedding wine in the wedding chamber while talking about old times and watching the moon is so BL-coded that I am still surprised this show is on a book that is not danmei :D Also the fact that Di Feisheng and Li Lianhua both shared their very secretive powerful cultivation techniques with each other is ... sth xD I'm already sad that we only have 2 episodes left (witch you totally should watch on the same day!!!) I just hope that you will watch the behind the scenes and the extra, as well as hopefully that one talk-/game show i talked about, with our three boys (+Princess Qing'er) to end this journey on a hilarious note (seriously you will die of laughter) ^-^

Corvins.art

Episode 35 and 36: Di Feisheng is probably hanging out somewhere in chains, worry not too much, he is resilient and Jia Liqiao does not seem to want him dead, she wants to make him her male-wife :D My guess for the fact that Li Xiangyi's master looks different in the illusion formation ist that it shows all these martial-masters in their prime-time -> so a young master! Just a quick reminder to maybe get a pillow or three ready for the last few episodes, like with most drama's everything intensifies, emotions run high and we get more action!

Corvins.art

Episode 33 and 34: The closer we get to the end, the less i know what to write :D I loved the whole Liangy Fairy story, and I am still amazed that this show can make us care about characters who barely have screen time! In the next episode we will meet an old character again, and venture in to the imperial city and meet some of the royal family in search of the mother bug! That whole arc had me on the edge of my seat constantly :D

Corvins.art

Episode 34: Di Feisheng bringing the hotness. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ And sorry evil lady, he is definitely nobody's wife. He is the DADDY (Like Yohan) Only two men I use that word for a reason.

Lilah Kane

Episode 31 and 32: The Mastermind is finally revealed! I feel like that was such a great and somewhat uncexpectet plottwist! Cheng Yi's acting is on point, he always makes me feel true emotions This new mystery about the groom is actually one of my favourites in the show, just because i had no idea about what happended and how, and usually it is quite easy for me to figure mysteries out xD Jia Liqiao is gonna become more annoying in the last episodes of this show, and her creepiness is gonna go up too, so not looking forward to that :D

Corvins.art

Episode 32: According to Shan Gudao's actor, he and Cheng Yi(Li Lianhua) ad libbed the first few minutes of their confrontation to make it more emotional. Li Lianhua's "I looked for you for ten years!" wasn't in the script. He said it 3 times for emphasis

daydreamingcat

Hi, hope this version is better.

Jeanet Henning

Hi, Jeanet - on ep 32, is there any reason it's so fuzzy? I can't read the subtitles. I think it's at 420p & I can't see a way to increase it. :(

Maria Lima (aka chickwriter)

Episode 29 and 30: The truth is out! Fang Duobing finally knows Li Lianhua is dying and trying to save him. The thing with Li Lianhua is that for the past 10 years he had only one thing to keep him going: Finding his shixiong Shan Gudao's body. He thought he knew who killed him, and his only goal was to find him and lay him to rest. To uncover all that is happening now was not on his to-do-list. Li Lianhua know's how Yangzhouman works. He know's he could have taught it someone to heal himself down the line, but he chose not to do that. Anyway something to keep in mind is that you can only belive like half of what Li Lianhua is saying at any point. You can trust him with your life, but you should always be suspicious of what he is saying, chances are he is lying xD Fang Xiabao is learning to not get tricked, but only slowly.

Corvins.art

epi 29: not a spoiler just answering your question: yes Li Lianhua gave Fang Duobing the chance to learn Yangzhouman after he healed him by making him learn & practice the instructions he wrote him down (forgot the epi, it was in Lotus-Tower & he used a fake name for the skill). But the 'problem' with his skill is that it needs to be cultivated for a long time before he reaches any greater healing potential esp if it's not only self-healing but healing another person, I think they mentioned he'd need to train years or a decade?

CactusDragon

i said short but who am i kidding :'D

Corvins.art

Episode 28: The King of Hell is getting married and Fang Xiabao is emberassed his mom is revealing all his secrets to his childhood hero XD To keep it short for this week, i do have a reccomendation for when you have finished this drama! Our main cast (Fang Duobing, Di Feisheng and Li Lianhua) + Princess Qing'er made an apperance on the chinese show "Hello, Saturday " on MangoTV. There is one video where they mostly eat while playing small games (40 min) and talking as well as another video where they play games against another group of people, it's probably the funniest thing i ever watched (1 hour 20 minutes)! You can find both videos on youtube with english subs, so maybe you can do a reaction to those, if you are up to it! (believe me, you especially won't regret the games, Cheng Yi is absolutly confused / adorable throughout, and you see his amazing acting skills, as he is completly different in real life xD)

Corvins.art

Episode 27: Finally Fang Duobing knows for sure, i still think that if Li Lianhua just told him, before he promised that there is nothing more to say, Xiabao would have taken it with humour along the lines of "Now you have to teach me all your fighting skills and can't run away anymore!" Di Feisheng is playing a good game for now, but still underestimates Jiao Liqiao. The only reas'on we haven't seen her lash out at him is because she still thinks they are on the same side, what would happen if she gets betrayed by him? I can not say anything about the hooded guy, but i think his identity is gonna be revealed soon, but my memory is kinda wonky xD For the amount of episodes left i feel like there is so much that still happens, we haven't even met one of my other favourite side characters yet (besides the drunken fighter)! I am looking forward to the reactions of the next episode, specifically for you to find out if your predictions are right or not xD

Corvins.art

Episode 26: I was also constantly worried when I first watched this episode, and I do feel like the music and the funny dynamic between A Fei and Fang Duobing makes it a good balance between scary and hilarious! Jiao Liqiao is creepy as always, but worry not, she will become creepier! :D I always find it funny that she goes on and on about helping Di Feisheng, being in love with him and knowing him best, while she actually understands him zero xD Next episode things start to happen again and this arc will end while a new one will start! I feel like this is when things really pick up, and slowly but surely the true end boss will be revealed and things will start to make sense, kinda ^^

Corvins.art

Episode 25 That set reminded me of the ghostly village in The Untamed where all the kids were.

Mark Lesney

Episode 25: Another great arc starts! Li Lianhua is a master at lying and his ridiculous lies, no matter about what, will not stop anytime soon, at least not of his own voalition. He is truly worthy of being called an old fox, but he should not forget that there is a young fox following his footsteps xD This arc will be a bit more on the spooky side, so do prepare for some possible jumpscares in the next few episodes!

Corvins.art

Episode 24: The Girl's Mansion case is finished, and I can't say enough how much I love this case! The whole mystery behind it, the beautiful scenerey and the little funny parts inbetween make it such a joy! I do feel like in this last scene you could see Princess Qing'ers stance on the wedding well, and i absolutely hate it. I don't even understand why she would want to marry someone who does not want to marry, and definitely should not be locked up in a palace, but his reaction was priceless xD If I do remember correctly which case comes next, then you will get your wish of a lot more A Fei! I do also really like the upcoming case, and you can expect a very different kind of mystery and vibe!

Corvins.art

Episode 23: First of all: Great reaction again! Now, what Li Lianhua meant with "saving someone important to you" was actually not a lie, A Fei does want to save someone, and that is Li Lianhua himself, but Li Lianhua is not fighting his own death at all and just accepting it, if he actually tried and wanted to not die A Fei would have an easier time xD' So Li Lianhua just omitted his own name! ^^ I feel like you are gonna be like me and any good feelings you had about Princess Qing'er will just dissapear in the next episode lol But she is a very intersting character who appears through out the rest of the show multiple times, and it's always a mixed bag of feelings :D

Corvins.art

Episode 22: The mystery started! So in somewhat of a defence for Princess Qing'er: She is like THE princess, there is one royal family and she is the only princess, and has actually never left the palace before, which makes her "rude" behavior sense, because she is used to being served etc. BUT I also am not a fan of her for various reasons that I can not explain yet :D I still wonder how the hell nobody knew the princess was kidnapped, because that makes absolutely 0 sense! Our men in red is very mysterious and very interesting, and he dances beautifully! I also immedieatly liked his character, as well as the drunken swordsman! Sidenote: The outfit desgin for this show is honestly amazing, there are so many different ones that all fit their character perfectly, they are always beatuiful (i especially love Fang Duobings whole pastel-colored wardrobe and his dangly bead- hairpiece!) and Li Lianhua has the most intriguing hairpieces everytime that look like he might make them himself bc they are always oujt of wood!

Corvins.art

I love FDB and LLH

唐琳

Episode 21: Your questions will be answered in the next episode on where Di Feisheng is, if I'm not mistaken XD Mountains Red arc takes quite some episodes and a lot happens, we will meet new faces, find out new things, and of course there is a mystery to be solved :3 Fun fact: Not sure if maybe you looked this up already yourself but Fang Duobing is called "Fang Xiaobao" by Li Lianhua and Fang Duobing's family only! It is his milk-/nickname, the name that is used until a final name is decided, and sometimes sticks as a nickname! "Xiaobao" means somtehting like "little treasure" and is an endearment parents like to us. Milknames are names that only family and very close family friends use, bc they are not even recorded anywhere ^^ So this knowlege makes a big difference for me because Li Lianhua calls Fang Duobing that so casually, and Fang Duboing never complained or said anything about it and just accepted it!

Corvins.art

Episode 20: Amnesiac Di Feisheng is just the funniest ever, and there will be more of that glorious new dynamic! Lotus tower is getting quite crowded, and I do wonder where all of them sleep, bc we only ever see 2 beds, one on the ground floor where the kitchen is, and one on the upper floor that is under the open roof, but there are like 4 people living there now :'D

Corvins.art

Ep 20: Re Di Feisheng walking into the river -- he needed to get further away from the vicinity, but was too hurt to do so by walking away, so he chose to do so by drifting away... V smart. And yes, I LOLed too when you guessed the loss of memory a few seconds before it was revealed πŸ˜‚

casey

Anyway sorry for the long rant lol

Corvins.art

Episode 19 (long explanation ahaead): I loved the new episode! This was a very nice episode to flow in to the next arc, an arc i just absolutely love! About Di Feisheng being able to toxify the Ice Cicada Poison (?): As far as i know martial artists in this world sometimes have their very own way of training and cultivating their inner power. Li Xiangyi was taught by his master from a very young age on and it has it's own secret way of how it works and how you can use it! Di Feishing has his own inner power called "Windy Poplar" and it apparently works in tiers he needs to break through. Right now he is in tier 7 and trying to go to 8. It could be that technically Di Feisheng is already powerful enough to heal the Ice Cicada too, but I'm pretty sure that his inner power can't be used for healing in the same way as Yangzhouman! My reasoning for that: Di Feisheng himself said to Li Lianhua that if he had taught Fang Duobing Yangzhouman 10 years ago he could have been able to heal Li Lianhua with it. If Di Feisheng's windy poplar could also easily heal he would just do that, and even if he is not strong enough yet, he would be trying to get stronger quicker, but he is thinking of various other ways to heal Li Lianhua, that do not at all involve his own inner power!

Corvins.art

Episode 18: A lot of redditors disliked how Qiao Wanmian and Li Xiangyi was handled in this episode, and i do feel like the dialogue is kind of misleading us! But for me i kind of figured that she just really needed that closure, because she never did find out his reaction after she sent that break up letter, he just "died". I tried to think how i would react, what I would think, if I was her, and honestly I would also want to talk to him one more time, because honestly to think i sent somebody a letter like that, and that be my last words ever to that person, is quite heavy

Corvins.art

It will get better and better! (And Di Feisheng's entrances...) Episode 19. Here we go.

Lilah Kane

Episode 16: You are getting to one of my favorite story part soon and believe me. You have not seen anything yet. 🀭

Lilah Kane

Episode 14: I think it is the same guy. Things from all the ordinary cases have some reason to connect for the over all main story ark. Be it character, item, information or an event. On second watch those are easier to notice if you will do that. I miss Di Feisheng every time he is not in the episode. 😁

Lilah Kane

Episode 13: Di Feisheng's way of handling things were luckily shown a little bit by how his upbringing was when he was little. He is pretty "rough" with his love and does things in a bad way. He has his eyes on the goal and he wants to cure Li Lianhua in any means necessary. Even by hurting him or forcing him to get cured. Also, Di Feisheng is no fool. He knows Lianhua would not allow Doubing to die. That is what he is counting on. So, in that sense, Doubing is not in danger. If that makes sense. Of course we know how he is doing it is wrong, but the viewers also want Lianhua saved and CARE about his own life. (And stop blaming himself for everything between heaven and earth) So, Lianhua has two "friends" that care about him. They just have very different ways to show it. Can't wait for you to see, what is coming. 😊

Lilah Kane

Episode 11. Trust us. Di Feisheng's entrances and outros are legendary. You have only seen a few of course. πŸ˜€

Lilah Kane

A-Fei is little bit obsessive isn't he? And little rough on his loving. Episode 10 was great. Beginning of another interesting crime. Just prepare yourself for episode 11. Or should I say... You can't be prepared for it. πŸ˜€

Lilah Kane

I'm so glad I'm not alone on this train.

Jeanet Henning

I think, A-Fei is targeting the antidote but also he wants old Li back. He clearly knew it was a fake sword when Li pulled it. Also, have you noticed that he has been smiling more with the Duo and was genuinely proud and curious why Lianhua called him old friend. The old love story is in a way needed (because censorship), but also to show Lianhua has moved on and also the lady is. He just tries to make 100% sure that she would forget the past. A-Fei is also the tough guy love with his thinking. Pretty similar to Lianhua's tough love this episode for his ex. A-Fei's is just more physical. 😁

Lilah Kane

Oh, A-Fei is the daddy alright. 😏

Lilah Kane

Yassssss I've been waiting for ep 8's reaction!! This isn't a BL but the way Lianhua and Afei act with each other makes it IMPOSSIBLE to not ship them - what else can their relationship be other than LOVE 😌, it's even better than a BL ship πŸ₯° The trio dynamic is basically mom Lianhua, dad Afei, kid Duobing, happy times πŸ₯Ή Also Afei has really got beautiful eyes and have you noticed his goddamn long pretty lashes 😍

enrikay

Episode 8 is one of the fandoms favorite episodes. Now you know why. It is also good to make you re-watch the episodes with the kid. He was so good. And you notice in small details now that he is A'Fei. And Lianhua's reactions to the kid. He knew. 😊

Lilah Kane

Little info: It was not said clearly. They just said in the series that Lianhua build the Lotus Tower from a wreckage. In the book it was clearly said that he made it from the pieces of DI Feisheng's ship where they battled in the pilot. Also, make note of A-Fei's beautiful eyelashes.

Lilah Kane

And, that is before I saw the ending to the reaction. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ Hope you are enjoying episode 8!

Lilah Kane

Thank you! Works fine now. Thou are not prepared for episode 8! 😁 I mean, Grave Robber's Chronicles much? (Also, you should watch it asap, cough)

Lilah Kane

Sorry about that seems something went wrong with the video, fixing it right now

Jeanet Henning

Jeanet, episode 7 reaction seems to be only 7 minutes long? If it takes time to load, forget this notification! 😊

Lilah Kane

Episode 6 reaction: Weddings in Chinese dramas = Definite disaster. They always end badly.

Lilah Kane

Also in episode 5 this sentence that the henchman said to Di Feisheng went by very fast: "He is the only person (Li Lianhua) that can have my Lord keep him in mind." Di Feisheng did not disagree. Also, be careful with the subtitles. Sometimes they go by fast and the subtext is clearly there. 😊

Lilah Kane

So, how do you like DI Feisheng? It only gets better here on out. 😏

Lilah Kane

I hope you would have recognized the evil sister on episode 5. It was Jiang Cheng's mother in the Untamed. It seems she has a type in female characters. πŸ˜€

Lilah Kane

opened a patreon just for this I'm so excited to see your reactions to the next couple of episodes (and to the whole series)

Semi

Oh, and I binge watched the heck out of this. I could not wait.

Lilah Kane

Can't wait for you to see Director Di in his full glory. He makes an impression alright. 😏

Lilah Kane

Once a week is gonna be torture lol send help

Sophie biasland x

Hi yes!😊 it's updated every Tuesday

Jeanet Henning

Is there a schedule for these reactions?πŸ‘€

Sophie biasland x

OMGGG this is my favourite series right now

Sophie biasland x

Uuhh! Yes! The actor of Fang Duobing (our young Detective) is Zeng Shunxi, who you might recognize from Ultimate Note where he played Wu Xie. So we have two actors from the Lost Tomb franchise in this :D Loved the reaction! β™₯ The first episode really pulls you in. They spent 100 hours filming that first fight and it shows, so good!

Lisa Kleine

Yay!!
