Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty Complete Masterpost

I was a Tang Runquin Fan from the start.....the foodie nature, the voices he makes when he writes his boooks. Und donge is so fucking cute and sweet and bitchig but loves her two daddys so much. Und While visually Runquin is deadass beautiful but Sui Guangchuan is just more my type. The calmness, the dark but very soft and usually unwavering voice. Calm, tall and handsome. And our favorite bitchy Eunich...I had trouble at first....but he grew and grew on me. He is just someone incredibly funny.

I've watch this show so many times and I can understand the frustration but he always knows what he is doing even if it looks like doest he knew that pei taken the poison which he is not familiar with or don't even have an antidote for plus as many that has been taken then pei wouldn't be able to make the antidote his bodymay be immune to poison but only certain ones not all poison ar e made the same so if tang fans body react like this to the poison just imagine what would happen to pei the one person who can figure out an antidote for the poison be he would have been out of commission so that's why he volunteered to be the test subject so pei can study it .I mean no one else can do it they are not doctors. yes the conflict between giving it to tang fan or to Dora lays heavily on pei. but one can't get mad at tang fan for thinking this since if roles were switch they would have done the same thing

This show has so much going on that even at my second time watching it you still point out stuff in your first viewing that I never noticed.

Mark Lesney

Oh wow, not me completely forgetting about that massive sacrifice. -_- Damn.

Jeanet Henning

Episode 35. I think the reason all those men were uniformly upset to be entering the palace was because they would all be made into eunuchs in order to serve. That meant they would never have children or a family in a culture where descendants were almost the meaning of life and manhood. And is also one reason why Aras(?) had to abandon Dora forever to serve his country. And presumably similar stories for many of those whom desperation had forced to this decision.

Mark Lesney

This is a very stressful show at times. And I do agree that sometimes Tang is way too impulsive for his own good.

Mark Lesney

Thank you very much! I have to agree with you on your analysis looking back. I think I was too stressed at the time, to view it from that perspective.

Jeanet Henning

I kind of disagree on episode 25. In my opinion, Tang was right to do what he did for two reasons, the one he said -- the doctor needs his full capacity to diagnose and decoct the antidote, and 2, for the people he loves. Dr. Pei is his best friend and the only hope his sister and Cheng have for a future, and Dora for a cure, and the girl will be cared for by Sui. Also, Tang dying, if someone has to die, releases everyone else from danger from his perspective. I see it as nobility rather than just guilt, though guilt is certainly there. By the way, I am really enjoying your reactions and am glad I joined the Patreon. Also enjoying your participation in the Buffy co-operative with Justalowlychannel.

Past Comments Vivi Peri Okayyy!!! Lemme see if I can clear some of your confusion! #1. Being trapped in the brothel was my guess too as to why Suizhou's ptsd is getting worse. But after reading the novel, the actual reason why the ptsd is progressing is because he now has his "found family" that he wants to protect and is scared for. #2. The person named "Aras" is Dora's lover who is away doing something. We have already seen him. I won't say who it is just incase you haven't figured it out yet. #3. The thing about the women not showing emotion, it is usually the case with women of the palace because their relationship with their spouse is more political and status related rather than actual feelings related. Hope that helped... :D

Past Comments adrian Guangchuan is Sui Zhou’s courtesy name. Vivi Peri πŸ˜… this isn't a spoiler cuz they showed the person's face already, but the lady that called Li Zilong father, and you thought was the ice seller is actually "QingGe", she is the famous beautiful prostitute who was doing the poems duel with TangFan.( She also was the one who did Tangfan's makeup in the last episode😁)

Past Comments Vivi Peri Tangfan really is so pretty actually! I remember thinking how could he do such a high voice but then I remembered that he also does high voices when acts out the female characters in the books that he writes on the side 🀣🀣

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Vivi Peri "Everything has just gone wrong, I have no faith left" is a perfect summary of this episode 🀣🀣 I am cackling like a mad woman cuz I can't wait for you to see how this turns out 😁 also you said something in the middle that is sort of foreshadowing but I will not tell you what it is that you said πŸ˜… Also can you blame Tangfan for trying to save his man while also on the verge of dying? Stupid but the sentiment is there 😩

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Vivi Peri Next episode is much more of a mess !!!😁 I just can't wait! Cuz shit has already hit the fan but it's about to hit a turbine 😎πŸ₯²

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Vivi Peri The poor horse! I didn't even remember that happened... The guy we saw at the end that disappeared is like the final enemy, so now that he's been introduced, things are just going to get even more intense from here on out.

Ep 14 Comments

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Stefanie Mayrhofer The end of the episode is missing though, ;) Lola Dolores The reason why Wang Zhi let off Commander Wan is because he's the younger brother of Noble Consort Wan. Wang Zhi sees her kind of as a mother. That's why he said he didn't want to make his Majesty angry and make her Highness sad. And you are right, after Wang Zhi said that, the emperor immediately realized who it was behind the case of children trafficking. The public executions were meant to be a warning to Commander Wan.

Past Comments adrian Besides the title and leading roles, the series nearly has nothing in common with the novel, and thatβ€˜s why many novel readers unfairly criticized it. In my opinion, the scriptwriter is much wiser and more skillful in organizing the story and characterization.

Past Comments Vivi Peri Yess! You were correct about the horses!!! I kinda like that we can see that Wangzhi actually cares about Suizhou and Tangfan but he's also so ruthless (like when he just killed the Batu guy in a blink...) Hopefully, next episode SuiTang will finally be together again.

Past Comments Vivi Peri Yayy!!! New SoTMD reaction!!!! Sooo let try to explain what Wangzhi is. I wasn't sure if you knew what a "eunuch" was(Wangzhi is a eunuch) so just in case: A eunuch is a man who has been castrated either for job requirements or as punishment, usually, they are employed to guard the women's living areas at an oriental court which as you can see, he guards the Noble Consort of the palace. The palace usually employs eunuchs because they are stronger built than women but because of castration, they are not influenced by women or sexual needs and are also very intelligent and cunning as a result. Due to this, while eunuchs were one of the most trusted slaves and tended to be some of the most powerful political players in the Chinese government, the court was also wary of them (which is why the emperor trusts Wangzhi but not completely). Eunuchs were also often looked down upon outside the palace. Because of their condition and sometimes effeminate behavior, a common insult is calling them neither man nor woman(which is the insult that the Jurchen son used). It is good to know this because there are many nuances in this drama that depend on the viewer understanding the kind of precarious position Wangzhi is in with the emperor's favor. You were questioning if it was true, but it is true that Wangzhi is the biggest investor of the Huanyi Brothel, because he uses it as an information site. All the women there collect intel for him because everyone from normal people to bigshots go to the Huanyi brothel. Also I love your "wild speculation" for how the horses disappeared!!! :D I hope this helps. If you already knew this, ignore me haha. :P Thanks for the reaction!!!! Lisa I started watching this a few months ago but got distracted even though it was a fun show. I'm gonna start again since you're watching them! Stefanie Mayrhofer I'm so happy you are enjoying the show. Even though its not as "bromancy" as Tu or WOH, I really like the characters and their dynamics. :) Lisa Kleine Yes, this episode was so good! Loved all your concerns with Tang Fan's prison plan because it could have gone so badly and I have to commend Tang Fan's stubborn bravery because he probably knew it as well. I can relate to just wanting to continue watching, I know I watched the first 10 episodes in one go... ^^Β° Thank you for your lovely reaction! β™₯

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Vivi Peri Yes!! Finally!!! I was waiting for this reaction even though there was a lot of filler (especially with Tangfan and the girl lol). I'm glad we're moving towards SuiTang getting back together now, there's no telling what Tangfan will do if Suizhou isn't there haha. Also, I'm glad we're getting to see what Wangzhi is doing too because he's honestly a really interesting character and even when he is so hard to like in the beginning, all three of them (SuiTangWang) really have each other's back at the end of the day and its so interesting watching their friendship get to that point.

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Vivi Peri Haha don't worry, they not gonna be apart for too long. 😁 The girl has a lot of back story for her actions so it's just a waiting game of liking her, kind of the same with the waiting game of liking Wangzhi πŸ˜…. But you'll reach that point eventually. Also I totally agree with you that the main focus of all the cases are not really trying to find out who the bad guy is, but more like realizing that everyone had a story, and there are reasons as to why people do what they do. It doesn't justify killing ppl but there is a bigger picture even if their reasons still come from the wrong place. Thoroughly enjoyed this reaction! Can't wait to see more! πŸ₯°

Jeanet Henning

Past Comments Lisa Kleine I think Dong is supposed to be 12? But I'm not sure. Commander Wang is 16/17, though, so that kinda explains his ruthlessness in a way. Teenagers (or just people, really, but teenagers especially) in positions of power with strong ideals and loyalties are prone to a certain "my way is the right way" point of view and of course, as we have found in this episode, human life has little value if they are not noble or officials or in another way "important" to the state... (But I also love Wang Zhi so much, so what does that say about me? πŸ€”πŸ˜…) Love your reaction! ❀ Vivi Peri I really love every one of your reactions to this series because I just love this show soo much!!! I know the beginning of this episode was stressful with dong'ers situation but I'm so happy that they're all together now!! Another thing I love is that the directors decided to include a trope from the novel which is SuiZhou making or buying food for TangFan and Dong'er as a sign of his affection for them which he has trouble showing. I know some ppl think that this doesn't have all the aspects of a Chinese bl because it focuses more on the cases, but if you were to really compare it to the novel, the directors gave the main characters sooo many more moments together than they had in the novel. It's just so goood... Also about the dynamics of the palace, the younger woman(Noble Consort) isn't actually the Emperor's wife, she's his most cared for concubine. (i know it says consort but the translation is a bit off). Also, the prince is the Emperor's son but from a different concubine which is why everyone thinks the noble consort is trying to kill him. The noble consort and the Emperor's mother are both important to him sort of equally which is why they always tend to quarel. I have rambled long enough...

Past Comments Stefanie Mayrhofer I really enjoy rewatching the show together with you. Hope you had a nice and relaxing vacation. :) Vivi Peri Also they still have to find out how hanzao(the prince's study partner) died, so the case technically isnt completely closed lol. Also there are so many names to remember, it drove me insane the first time i watched this 😩

Past Comments Stefanie Mayrhofer Yay, Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty. Glad you are enjoying the show so far. :) adrian You're right that in Iron Market they are speaking some other language, not a dialect but Mongolian. The show is set in a true historical background and many roles & events in the show truly existed or happened. One of them is the military tension between Ming China and Mongolian Clan in the North. I really like that they smoothly blend the historical figures and events into the drama. Wang Zhi is also a true historical role and is quite famous or notorious in history. Please be patient and you probably will become his fan in this show. Vivi Peri I made iiit :D Angel I started watching this show since you were watching itπŸ˜… Wang Zhu somehow reminds me of Yao from Mdzs

adrian Please forgive me to praise the VA for Tang Fan (Runqing is his courtesy name), Su Shangqing. He also devoted his vocal performance to Jin Guangyao in The Untamed, Jin Ling in MDZS anime, and Cao Weining in WOH. The VA for Wang Zhi is impressive too. Really love your reaction to this episode. I would be happy to follow if you are willing to react to the whole. Reply: Jeanet Henning Thank you very much. I'm really hoping many people will enjoy it as I really quite liked the first episode and would like to continue it but thank you so much for your support, lets hope the show holds up till the end for me.
