Just thought I'd mention here that there are three "tiers" of undead if you want to put it that way. LOWEST TIER --- the lowest tier are the wights. Basically anyone who has died and been brought back to life by the night king. They sometimes look like skeletons if they've been dead along time, or if they've been brought back from the dead recently, can look more like rotting corpses. They are mindless automatons and are all just tools that do their masters bidding. They comprise almost all of the undead army. MIDDLE TIER --- The White Walkers. I believe that all of them have been made from those male babies that Craster (if you remember him) put out in the woods as a sacrifice in exchange for the undead leaving him and his girls alone. They are like the captains of the undead army and are NOT mindless drones. They can exert control of wights although I forget if they can raise the dead themselves or not. The guy that came in and fought with John Snow in the building this episode was a white walker. It's unknown exactly how many of them there are but there aren't that many. They were the guys riding the horses on top of the hill this episode. TOP TIER --- The Night King. One guy. He made them all and has control over all of them. He is the top dog. He was the guy at the very end who walked along the dock and raised the dead. You can recognize him by the thorn like things on his head (like a crown of thorns). Nothing is yet known of his origin or purpose. Don't know if you've already got this all straight in your head, all these terms are throw around often and can sometimes cause confusion. Hope all is well :)

I've read the books, and even I thought Jon was going to die here.

This episode was a huge wake up call for viewers. Not only do we see the Night King's resurrection of the dead into Wights to be an extremely simple thing for him, we realized how powerful in general combat the White Walkers were, what with their strength and ice weapons. Very scary overall. Then the tuning fork moment of Jon being able to block the ice weapon with his Valyrian steel sword AND kill the White Walker with it... Most of us were scrambling to remember all the Valyrian steel we knew of at the time, and who had them. - Jon's Sword (Longclaw). - Ned's Sword (Ice) was reforged into: - - Joffrey's Sword (Widow's Wail). Likely sitting in a closet somewhere at the moment. - - Brienne's Sword (Oathkeeper). - The dagger used to try to kill Bran (affectionally known as the Catspaw Dagger). This one hasn't been seen since Ned last had it in Season 1.

Good Halloween episode!

Hi Stef, thanks for getting these reactions done despite all that has been going on with you. Hope your are feeling better! Ah Hardhome. My favorite episode of season 5. 1. It's okay you didn't say much at the end. We were all the same way when we first watched this episode. 2. Yup, the living are screwed. The is the first time we all saw how powerful and scary the army of the dead are. And the first time we see the power of the Night King. 3. Jon's sword, given to him by Commander Mormont, is made of Valyrian steel. That sword was able to block the dead's weapon.

You might ask "how can Game of Thrones get any better than this?" Oh, but it does! I'm excited for the episodes to come!

That was a nice Halloween episode, huh? Good to have you back, Stef :))) Incredible reaction! Especially your facial expressions during Jon's fight against the White Walker. You even dodged his attacks while sitting on your chair, lol.

Stef, they don't chop of the heads :) they just save and preserve their facial skin (I am sure there is a proper term for it, but don't ask me). And as you surmised it is how they change their appearance. Also just in case it was not answered. Jon's sword is not regular steel but Valerian steel. Sadly Valerian steel is really rare but as we saw it can kill White Walkers just like Dragon Glass can. Please don't delay on Ep 9 too long :)... We is hungry :)

Can't wait to Stef's reaction to this one. One of the best GoT episodes! Thanks Stef!
